Banks’ relay zonal strike from today

United Forum of Bank Unions of State unit on Monday announced that the workmen and officers working in public sector, private sector and foreign banks all over the country will observe relay zonal strikes from December 2 to 5 demanding “Immediate Settlement of Wage Revision”
In a pressnote here, convener VVSR Sarma has stated some 80,000 workmen and officers working in some 5,000 bank branches throughout Telangana and Andhra Pradesh States would be participating in the relay zonal strike on December 2 in Southern Zone.

Rajaih to stay in OGH for 12 hours

Health Minister Dr T Rajaiah will make a 12 hour stay in Osmania General Hospital on Monday from 6 pm to Tuesday 6 am. During his stint the minister will interact with patients in various wards and inquire on health services and the facilities being provided. It is likely that Rajaiah may announce funds for the hospital to get latest equipment and apparatus to provide better health services. (NSS)

Applicants may logon to the website www.passportindia.gov.in and book their appointments from 3rd December, 2014 onwards. Normal, Reissue, and PCC applications will be accepted in the mela.

Syria, Pakistan discuss fight against terror, parliamentary ties

The issues of cooperation between Syria and Pakistan at the level of their parliaments and the fight against terror were discussed at a meeting between the two countries here Monday.

These issues were raised when Speaker of the Syrian People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham met chairman of the Pakistani Senate’s defence committee, Senator Mushahid Hussain.

The two sides stressed on the necessity of further developing relations between the People’s Assembly of Syria and the Pakistani National Assembly, SANA reported.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) today announced the complete schedule of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, including match start times and warm-up matches.

A total of 14 non-ODI warm-up matches will be played across Adelaide, Christchurch, Melbourne and Sydney from 8 to 13 February, with host and four-time former world champion Australia taking on reigning world champion India at Adelaide Oval on the first day.

Court directs Punjab to cremate sect leader Ashutosh’s body

The controversy over the death of sect guru Ashutosh is likely to get over with the Punjab and Haryana High Court Monday directing the Punjab government to perform his last rites within 15 days.

Ashutosh, who headed the Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan (DJJS) sect with its headquarters at Nurmahal near Jalandhar, was declared “clinically dead” by doctors Jan 29 this year.

However, the sect management kept his body in a deep freezer claiming that the sect leader had gone into “samadhi” (deep meditation). No one was allowed to take the body for examination nor any last rites were performed.

Border blues for Saudi woman trying to drive home

A Saudi Arabian woman who tried to drive into the kingdom from the United Arab Emirates said today she is stuck at the frontier and unable to pass.

Conservative Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world which does not allow women to drive.

“I have been at the Saudi border for 24 hours. They don’t want to give me my passport nor will they let me pass,” Loujain Hathloul said in a Tweet at around midday, before Tweets from @LoujainHathloul stopped.

Activists said she was arrested this afternoon, but the interior ministry could not immediately comment on her case.

Manjhi a better CM than Nitish: Paswan

Taking a dig at former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, LJP President Ram Vilas Paswan today claimed current Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi “is better” than his predecessor but he is not being given a free hand.

Replying to questions on Manjhi, Paswan said Manjhi comes from a humble background and claimed since he is mahadalit that’s why (JD(U)) wants to remove him.

IT case against Jayalalithaa expected to end soon

The 18-year-old case of non-filing of income tax (IT) returns against former Tamil Nadu chief minister J.Jayalalithaa and her friend Sasikala is expected to come to an end soon with the IT department accepting their plea for compounding of the offences.

The two had filed an application for compounding the offences with the IT department.

The department had informed a court here hearing the case that a sum of around Rs.2 crore was paid in the case, related to non-filing of tax returns by Jayalalithaa and Sasikala for 1991-92 and 1992-93.

Poll staff, security forces reach 2,181 polling stations in Kashmir

Poll staff and security personnel reached all the 2,181 polling stations Monday of 18 assembly constituencies in five districts of Jammu and Kashmir where polling will be held Tuesday in the second of the five phase election, an official said.

“All arrangements including polling staff, poll material, heating arrangements and security deployment is in place at all the 2,181 polling stations in the five districts of Poonch, Reasi, Udhampur, Kulgam and Kupwara where voting is scheduled to take place tomorrow (Tuesday) for 18 assembly constituencies.

SC notice to Haryana over police action on media persons

The Supreme Court Monday issued notice to the Haryana government over the police action on media persons outside controversial sect leader Rampal’s ashram Nov 19.

The bench of Justice T.S. Thakur and Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel issued notice as counsel Rajiv Dhawan informed the court about the grievous injuries suffered by media persons during cane-charge by Haryana Police.

AP cabinet meeting on Dec 5

The next meeting of Andhra Pradesh Council of Ministers will be held on December 5.

According to sources, the AP’s cabinet meeting, to be chaired by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, will be held in the State Secretariat. Besides taking important decisions, the cabinet will discuss the outcome of the Chief Minister’s five-day visit to Japan. The MoUs signed during the visit might also be given nod by the State Cabinet.

CONCOR contributes Rs 1 Cr to AP CMRF

Over 1500 students, 800 visitors watched Assembly session

For the first time after almost eight years, the students and common people got the opportunity to watch the live proceedings of just-concluded budget session of Telangana State Legislative Assembly from the Visitors’ Gallery.

According to officials, as many as 1,540 students, 73 teachers and 800 general visitors watched the proceedings of Legislative Assembly during the 19-day session held from November 5 to 29th. The students and teachers belonged to 13 different schools and colleges across the Telangana State.

Urdu text books of Inter 1st year available in market: BIE

The Board of Intermediate Education on Monday informed that the Urdu version text books for Economics, Civics, History, Commerce , Accountancy and Ethics and Human Values for Urdu medium students of 1st Year Intermediate are available in the market.

The books, prepared by the BIE under the supervision of Special Officer (Urdu) Abeda Sultana and printed from financial support from AP Urdu Academy are available in the market at AP Urdu Academy, 4th floor Haj House, Nampally, Hyderabad and Urdu Ghar, Mothigali, Khilwath, Hyderabad.

Sonia expresses anguish at killing of CRPF personnel

Congress president Sonia Gandhi Monday expressed shock and deep anguish at the gruesome killing of CRPF personnel in a Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh and demanded that the government look at all aspects of the incident.

She extended her condolences to the family of the “martyrs” and hoped that the injured would get all the required treatment.

“Having lost its entire state leadership and workers to Maoist attacks in Darba earlier, the Congress party understands the tyranny of such incidents and stands with the members of families of the deceased in this hour of grief,” Gandhi said.

Women Helpline launched in Ghaziabad

A Women Helpline was launched Monday by police here.

Speaking on the occasion, Uttar Pradesh Inspector General of Police Navneet Sikera asked women to be fearless.

Sikera said the helpline number 1090 was “very useful for women”.

He said college going girls and working women faced trauma when they were confronted by stalkers.
