Two lakh people afflicted with AIDS in Telangana State

As scary as it sounds on World AIDS day APSACS reported. Telangana has the fourth highest incidence of HIV in the country, with two lakh people afflicted with the deadly HIV.

APSACS officials said as many as 8.05 million condoms had been distributed across Telangana till October 2014. According to Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society report, Mahboob Nagar district stood first with HIV prevalence of 1.34 per cent, followed by East Godavari and Guntur with 0.83 per cent against the State’s mean of 0.61 p.c.

India successfully tests n-capable Agni-IV missile

India Tuesday successfully test fired its 4,000 km nuclear capable Agni-IV missile from a defence base in Odisha, an official said.

The Agni-IV, a strategic missile which can carry a one tonne nuclear warhead, was tested fired at 10.19 a.m. from a launch pad from the Wheeler Island, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) said .

“The test firing was successful. The missile crossed over more than 3,500 km,” Ravi Gupta, director (Public Interface) at DRDO, told IANS. It was the first user trial of the long-range, nuclear-capable, surface-to-surface Agni-IV.

Student held for junior murder

A 21-year-old Satish Kodkar, arrested by Sultan bazaar police, who was on run for allegedly beating to death his junior KS Harshvardhan Rao when the latter objected to him on eve-teasing a girl.

Police picked him from Kachiguda station, and remanded a 14 day judicial custody. Victim Rao and Satish are students of Pragathi College, on Saturday, Rao objected Satish on eve-teasing of girl and when he tries to stop satish, hated aurgument broke between two in the class room.

HIV ability to cause AIDS in decline

A new study has examined that HIV’s ability to cause AIDS is slowing down.

The study led by researchers at the University of Oxford also indicated that people infected by HIV were likely to progress to AIDS more slowly i.e. the virus became less “virulent” because of widespread access to antiretroviral therapy (ART).

The research was carried out in Botswana and South Africa, two countries that have been worst affected by the HIV epidemic. Across those countries, researchers enrolled over 2000 women with chronic HIV infection to take part in the study.

Inflation in India close to post-financial crisis lows: Nomura

Japanese brokerage Nomura today said inflation levels in India are close to post global financial crisis lows, and retained its positive stance on the country’s stock market.

According to the global financial services major, the national accounts reveal that inflation rates across sectors in the country are close to post-GFC (global financial crisis) lows.

“Inflation across aggregate sectors is close to post-GFC lows; we reiterate our positive stance on the market and remain OW (overweight) on financials,” Nomura said in a research note.

Minister of State Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti Tuesday regretted her use of unparliamentary language while campaigning for the Delhi assembly election.

Vote in large numbers: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday “strongly” urged the voters in Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir to vote in large numbers in the second of the five-phase elections.

“As the phase 2 of assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand commence, I strongly urge people voting in those areas to vote in large numbers,” the prime minister said in a tweet.

Balloting began in 18 assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, and in 20 of the 81 assembly seats in Jharkhand.

35 militants killed in Pak’s tribal region

At least 35 militants were killed today by the Pakistani fighter jets and security forces in the country’s troubled tribal region, bordering Afghanistan.

The jets targeted rebels in Dattakhel area of North Waziristan where a massive military operation against militants was launched in mid-June. A security official said that at least 30 militants were killed in the precision strikes that targeted rebel hideouts.

Veteran actor Deven Verma passes away following cardiac arrest

Veteran comedian, actor, director and producer Deven Verma died following a heart attack and kidney failure, it has been revealed.

According to the family sources, Verma breathed his last around 2 a.m. at his home in Pune.

The 78-year-old actor is survived by his wife Rupa Ganguly, the younger daughter of the late legendary actor Ashok Kumar.
