TV series ‘Matador’ has been cancelled after just one season.

Dubbed ‘the Latino James Bond’, the show had been commissioned for a second season before the first episode had even aired, reported Deadline.

‘Matador’ failed to generate interest internationally, leading to its demise.

In a statement, the El Rey Network said that it was proud of the show, before thanking the cast and crew.

Bombay HC condemns police dept for filing incomplete charge sheets

The Bombay High Court condemned the police department for filing incomplete charge sheets in criminal cases.

According to the court, incomplete charge sheets resulted in miscarriage of justice as bail is often denied to the accused who continue to suffer in prison for this lapse.

The court also said that important documents such as post-mortem reports are often found missing from the charge sheets, and added that observations made on the issue in the past appeared to have been ignore. (ANI)

A Delhi court has sentenced a woman and her paramour to life imprisonment for killing her husband, relying on testimonies of her three children.

Additional Sessions Judge Rakesh Kumar awarded them the jail term for murdering the man by hitting him with a cricket bat on his head, neck and private parts.

The court said the very act of the duo of removing and destroying clothes which the victim was wearing at the time of the incident and replacing them with new ones strengthens the prosecution case that it was they who had killed the man and destroyed the evidence thereafter.

NCR autos without GPS won’t be allowed to ply on Delhi roads

In view of passenger safety, the Delhi government has decided not to allow autorickshaws plying in Noida, Ghaziabad, Sonipat and Faridabad without GPS to enter into the national capital.

The government will issue permits only to 2,750 autos of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh each, which will allow them to ply on Delhi roads.

“Keeping the safety of passengers, especially women, in mind, we will not allow NCR autos which do not have Global Positioning System (GPS) installed to ply on roads in the national capital,” said a senior government official.

Kin of road accident victim get over Rs 14 lakh compensation

A Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) here has awarded over Rs 14 lakh compensation to the family members of a 34-year-old man, who died in a road mishap involving a rashly driven bike.

The tribunal directed the National Insurance Company Ltd, insurer of the bike, to pay Rs 14,68,024 as compensation to the mother, wife and minor son of Surender Singh, who suffered fatal injuries in the accident in 2011 due to the negligence of rider Vikash Kumar.

Delhi Police ACP, sub-inspector let off in bribery case

A local court has acquitted an ACP of Delhi Police’s anti-extortion cell and one of its sub- inspectors, facing trial in a corruption case for allegedly demanding Rs 15 lakh from a man in 2007 to hush up a complaint against him.

Special CBI judge Swarana Kanta Sharma let off accused Rakesh Kumar Bansal, who was then posted as Assistant Commissioner of Police, and Jagdish Kumar, then sub-inspector in anti-extortion cell of the crime branch, observing that the agency has failed to prove the motive, demand and acceptance of the alleged bribe by them.

NGT verdict: Over 29 lakh vehicles set to go off city roads

More than 29 lakh vehicles will go off the capital’s roads following a National Green Tribunal order putting a ban on plying of vehicles older than 15 years, the Delhi government has said.

Dismayed at the increasing level of air pollution in Delhi, the NGT had on November 26 barred all vehicles – private cars, bikes, commercial vehicles, buses and trucks – over 15 years old from plying in the capital.

CSIR files patent for leather tanning tech breakthrough

The CSIR has filed a patent for its breakthrough in leather tanning technology that does not require water.

The research carried out at CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute (CSIR-CLRI) is aimed at providing multiple benefits relating to in-process abatement of effluent problem, curtailing process steps, conservation of time and money.

Conventional chrome tanning process, which used chromium sulphate, is highly water intensive and requires around 45-60 million litres of water every day. Chemicals used in this process are also highly toxic in nature.

India’s populous coastal cities Mumbai and Kolkata are most vulnerable to loss of life and properties due to coastal flooding in the second half of the century, the government has said quoting a UN report ahead of a key global climate conference in Peruvian capital Lima.

The UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has warned against extreme weather events like occurrence of heatwave, heavy precipitation, droughts, floods, cyclones and wildfire that cause damage to ecosystems and human systems in various regions, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said.

A high-level panel constituted by the government to review various environment laws has recommended speedy green approvals in mining and power sectors as it feels that these sectors play a key role in national development.

In its report, the four-member panel, headed by former Cabinet Secretary TSR Subramanian, has recommended creation of National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) at central level and State Environment Management Authority (SEMA) at the state level as full time processing, clearance and monitoring agencies.

Congress party president Sonia Gandhi, hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for favouring capitalists over the masses.

Speaking at an election rally here on Saturday she said the BJP wants to privatise the coal mines because the party wants to benefit certain chosen capitalists.

“They want to privatise the coal mines which were nationalised by the Congress party, which will benefit some of their preferred capitalists and as a result of this you will face huge losses,” said Gandhi.

Gandhi also said the BJP made tall promises but never fulfilled any of them.

Anti-Naxal ops: Military choppers to BSF delayed

The much-awaited delivery of two advanced military helicopters to India for use in air support role in anti-Naxal operations has been delayed with BSF taking up the issue with Russian officials.

The Mi-17-V5 helicopters were scheduled to be handed over to the Border Security Force’s air wing by the end of September but sources said the delivery has got delayed by few months now.

A Delhi court has refused to set aside the interim maintenance awarded to a woman and her child from her estranged husband in a domestic violence case, saying it is the “legal right of a married woman to claim maintenance from her husband”.

Special judge Sanjay Sharma dismissed the man’s appeal against the order of the trial court which had asked him to pay Rs 8,000 per month to his wife and two-year-old child.

Bicycle pump use in sterilisation camp triggers outrage

A doctor used a bicycle pump to inflate the abdomen of 56 women while conducting laparoscopic tubectomy on them here, triggering public outrage in the area, officials said Sunday.

The doctor Mahesh Prasad Rout operated the women Friday at a sterilisation camp organised by local authorities at Banarpal village, about 150 km from state capital Bhubaneswar.

Although, the surgeon defended the procedure saying that the use of such pumps is not new, it angered the local residents. With the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party staging protests, the government ordered a probe into the incident.
