Young Wushu Player Yumnam Sanathoi Devi who made India proud by winning a bronze medal at the recently held 17th Asian Games in South Korea, now targets to win gold medals at 2015 World Wushu Championship and Rio 2016 Olympics. A resident of Yairipok Top Chingtha village in Thoubal district of Manipur, she won a bronze medal at the recently concluded Incheon Asian Games. “My plan is to play well for the next 4-5 years and reach the Olympic level. I want to get a title like Mary Kom. So, I am preparing hard now for achieving that.

Will improve infrastructure along China border: Rijiju

Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju Saturday said the government will improve infrastructure along the India-China border and undertake developmental activities that have not been done in 60 years.

“We will do certain infrastructural activities which have not been done in the last 60 years. The Chinese should not have a problem… they cannot stop me from doing my work,” Rijiju told reporters here on the sidelines of a function.

TVS Motor logs 22 percent sales growth

Two and three wheeler maker TVS Motor Company Ltd Saturday said its October sales went up by 22 percent as compared to corresponding period of 2013.

In a statement, TVS Motor said it sold 241,044 units (two wheelers 231,990 units, three wheelers 9,054 units) last month as against 197,905 units (two wheelers 189,979 units, three wheelers 7,926 units) sold in Oct 2013.

The company’s total exports grew by 51 percent with sales increasing from 23,154 units in the month of October 2013 to 34,855 units in October 2014.

Dutch investigators find more human remains at MH17 crash site

Dutch investigators have reportedly found more human remains at the MH17 crash site in eastern Ukraine.

The investigators were allowed to resume their search at the crash zone following a halt in the fighting between government forces and pro-Russian rebels.

According to News.com.au, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte released a statement confirming the team was again able to access the site and had recovered more human remains.

Remains of 289 of the 298 people aboard the Malaysia Airlines’ Boeing 777 have been recovered up till now.

Audi recalls 6,758 A4 sedans in India

Luxury carmaker Audi is recalling 6,758 units of A4 sedans in India, manufactured between November 2011 and October 2014, the company said Saturday.

“This activity is specific to Audi A4 cars manufactured between November 2011-October 2014. There are 6,758 Audi A4 identified for this software update campaign,” Audi India said in a statement.

Left parties to launch campaign against communalism, peoples’ problems

Six Left parties Saturday decided to launch a nationwide joint campaign against communalism and other problems affecting people’s lives.

After a meeting here, the parties decided to work together as a pressure block and launch a campaign against communalism.

Apart from the Communist Party of India -Marxist (CPI-M) and the Communist Party of India (CPI), the two-hour meeting was attended by Communist Party of India-Marxist-Leninist-Liberation, the Socialist Unity Centre of India-Communist, the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) and Forward Bloc.

New ration cards will be issued by December end: Etela

Finance and Civil Supplies Minister Etela Rajender on Saturday announced that the new ration cards would be issued by December end.

He disclosed this after chairing the meeting of Cabinet Sub-Committee on Ration Cards (Food Security Cards) at the State Secretariat on Saturday. Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy and Forest Minister Jogu Ramanna were also present. Etela informed that the Cabinet Sub-Committee had submitted its report to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and he has accepted all the recommendations made by the committee.

Land grabbing set to be cognizable offence in Odisha

The Odisha cabinet Saturday decided to promulgate an ordinance for prohibiting land grabbing activities in the state.

Chief Secretary G.C. Pati said the ordinance will provide for criminal prosecution of land grabbers, which could end in imprisonment of one to seven years with fine up to Rs.20,000.

“The offence shall be cognizable and non-bailable and no person shall be released on bail without hearing public prosecutor. The burden of proof that he has not grabbed the land, lies with the person who is alleged to have committed land grabbing,” said Pati.

Chandrayangutta flyover project to be ready by month-end

SC upholds life imprisonment for soldier

The Supreme Court has upheld the life imprisonment awarded to a soldier for killing a senior JCO who had tried to sodomise him hours before the incident and had beaten and humiliated him for refusing to satisfy his lust.

Rejecting the contention of the jawan B.D. Khunte that he acted under provocation, the apex court bench of Justice T.S. Thakur, Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel and Justice R. Banumathi in their judgment recently said that there was a difference between provocation and revenge.

I’m not really bothered about criticism: Kohli

Hitting out at critics, India’s star batsman Virat Kohli says he is not bothered about the questions being raised about his technique.

“Talks are for people to discuss. I mean there has to be something for people to talk about… I’m not really bothered,” Kohli, the stand-in India skipper for the first three ODIs, told reporters on the eve of the series opener against Sri Lanka in Barabati Stadium here.

Indian Army’s Eastern Command turns 94

Indian Army’s biggest operational command – the Eastern Command – responsible for military operations along the international borders with Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Myanmar and Nepal, Saturday turned 94.

The Eastern Command will continue to strive for “unparalleled professional competence to ensure the highest standards of operational readiness”, Lt. Gen. M.M.S. Rai, general officer commanding-in-chief, said on the occasion at its headquarters at Fort William here.

He reiterated the responsibility of safeguarding the nation’s eastern territory.

Kush Kumar, Harshit retain titles

Kush Kumar (TN) and Harshit Kaur Jwanda (Del) retained the titles in the Under-19 boys and girls sections, respectively, in the sub-junior and junior national squash championship at the Indian Squash Association (ISA) courts here Saturday.

Kush thus signed off from the junior ranks with his ninth national title overall from U-11 stage. He was a class apart in the final against Vijay Kumar as he won 11-5, 11-7, 11-6.

Digvijaya appears in court on Gadkari defamation suit

Congress leader Digvijaya Singh Saturday appeared before a Delhi court in connection with a defamation case filed by union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Earlier in the day, Digvijaya Singh did not appear before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Gomati Manocha and sought exemption for the day, which was opposed by Gadkari’s counsel.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court then issued a bailable warrant against the Congress leader and also sought Gadkari’s personal appearance in court.

The Congress leader appeared before the court later in the day.

Circus tiger kills girl in China

A circus tiger killed a girl in China’s southwestern Chongqing Municipality Friday, according to the theme park.

The eight-year-old girl was attacked by the tiger when she slipped into a closed animal training site of a circus in Leheledu Amusement Park while visiting with her relatives Friday night, Xinhua reported.

The girl died in the hospital after serious injuries.

Private security sector needs regulation: Rijiju

Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju Saturday said the private security sector should be regulated while the Private Security Agencies Regulation (PSAR) Act, 2005 needs stringent enforcement.

Speaking at FICCI’s Private Security Industry Conclave 2014, he said: “There is a need to regulate the sector more effectively and provide a professional touch to it. Security of a country and its people cannot be left unorganised and it must be carried out in a disciplined manner.”
