Father murders tenant for sexually assaulting a minor daughter

A 52-year-old man allegedly murdered his tenant who he claimed had sexually assaulted his minor daughter around a month ago.

The incident took place in Khajuri Khas area of North East Delhi last night.

It was reported to the local police around 4 AM when the man walked in to the police station and told them that he has murdered his tenant and escorted a police team to the house where Omkar (45) was found dead.

Govt compensation for Makra victims, Ali’s father refuses

West Bengal government today announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the family of each of those killed in the political clash at Makra village in Birbhum district on October 27.

However striking a discordant note, the father of one of the deceased Shaukat Ali refused to take any compensation by the state government.

“We don’t need any compensation from the state,” Shaukat, father of the victim Tausif Ali, told PTI.

District Magistrate P Mohangandhi earlier said, “We have received an order to give an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh each for next of kin of those having died.”

Protest over beating of class VI student, police files case

A class VI student was allegedly beaten up by a woman teacher as he had worn a dress related to a religious ritual and not the school uniform, sparking protest in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district.

Police said that they have registered a case under various IPC sections, including for hurting religious feeelings but no arrest has been made so far.

The student at a private school, who was observing Ayyappa Deeksha, went to the school on October 29 wearing a ‘mala’ (garland) and attired in black dress, a traditional robe wore during Ayyappa deeksha.

Boko Haram denies truce, kidnapped girls married

The leader of Nigeria’s extremist group Boko Haram has denied agreeing to any cease-fire with the government and said more than 200 kidnapped schoolgirls all have converted to Islam and been married off.

In a new video released last night, Abubakar Shekau dashed hopes for a prisoner exchange to get the girls released.

“The issue of the girls is long forgotten because I have long ago married them off,” he said, laughing.

“In this war, there is no going back,” he said in the video received by The Associated Press in the same way as previous messages.

Fadnavis holds his first cabinet meeting, pledges to develop state in five years

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis held his first cabinet meeting on Saturday during which he pledged to work towards the development of the state in the coming five years.

“A Cabinet meeting was held between 11 am to 4 pm. We have pledged to work towards the development of Maharashtra in the coming five years,” Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sudhir Mungantiwar told media here.

Mungantiwar further said that during the meeting the chief minister was briefed about the challenges faced by the departments ranging from power, finance, agriculture and home.

Rajnath to lay importance on security during his Israel visit

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who is set to visit Israel this month to boost bilateral ties between the two countries, on Saturday said that discussions would be held on homeland and border security matters.

During the visit, Singh is expected to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on November 6 during which both sides are expected to sign a number of agreements on several issues.

Sony reports 1.2bn dollars net loss in Q2 as mobile business takes a hit

Sony”s mobile unit reported a net loss of 1.2 billion dollars during its fiscal second quarter as its mobile business took a hit.

According to CNET, Sony overall generated 17.4 billion dollars in revenue during its fiscal second quarter, which ended September 30.

The total revenue saw an increase of up to 7.2 percent as compared with the same period last year, which is attributed to the popularity of the company”s PlayStation 4.

However, the company”s mobile unit reported a quarterly operating loss of 1.6 billion dollars on 2.8 billion dollars in revenue.

Fadnavis to face crucial trust vote Nov 12

Former Burkina Faso president arrives in Cote d’Ivoire

Burkina Faso’s former president Blaise Compaore has fled to neighbouring Cote d’Ivoire with his family, a day after violent protests forced him to step down after 27 years in power, the Cote d’Ivoire government said Saturday.

According to a statement released by the presidency, Cote d’Ivoire’s President Alassane Ouattara welcomed Compaore and his family members, but it did not specify when the president arrived in the country, Xinhua reported.

‘NIA probe should not hurt any particular community’

The Bengal Imams’ Association today said that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) should conduct an ‘impartial’ probe into the Burdwan blasts which must not hurt any particular community.

“We want the NIA to conduct an impartial investigation so that the real culprits are punished and not the innocent ones,” the Association’s Chairman Mohammed Yahiya told a press conference here.

“The NIA is a national agency and it should conduct an investigation in a neutral manner not influenced by any particular race or community,” he said.
