Speaker reviews Budget preparation

Speaker of Telangana Assembly, Mr. Madhusudhan Chari convened a meeting of the officers of the Assembly to review the preparations for the budget. He instructed the police officials to maintain tight security around the Assembly. Mr. T. Harish Rao, Minister for Legislative Affairs also attended the meeting.

New DCP of South Zone took charge

Mr. Satyanarayana took over yesterday as the new DCP of South Zone City Police. Earlier, he was working as DCP of South Zone. Soon after taking charge as DCP, Mr. Satyanarayana convened a meeting of police officials and instructed them to be alert on the occasion of Moharam. He warned that any attempt to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the city would be dealt with seriously.

B.Ed. colleges reporting date extended up to 5th November

Convener of EDCET, Prof. N. Venkat Rao informed that the phase of allotment of seats for B.Ed. students has already started on 25th October. The candidates were given time up to 31st October to join the college. Now it has been extended to 5th November. He has requested all the college principals to finalize the list of admitted candidates by 6 p.m. on 5th November 2014.

Five killed in fire near US university

At least five people died and several remained unaccounted for in a fire that occurred near a university in the US state of Maine Saturday, media reports said.

The blaze was reported Saturday morning at a three-story building used by University of Southern Maine students, reported the National Broadcasting Company (NBC), adding that it was not immediately clear whether the victims were students of the university, Xinhua reported.

CPI workers protest over death sentence awarded to Indian fishermen in SL

The Communist Party of India (CPI) workers staged a protest here on Saturday over the death sentence given to five Indian fishermen by a Sri Lankan court.

Extremely upset with the judgement, they demanded the Sri Lankan court to revoke its ruling.

CPI general secretary D. Pandian demanded the Centre to take this matter to the United Nations.

Haryana CM launches Swacch campaign

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday launched ‘Swachh Haryana-Swachh Bharat’ campaign as he swept roads and urged people to make cleanliness a part of themselves.

“We have urged the people that everyone should start the cleanliness of their own body, of their home, of their family, of their surroundings, workplace and of the colony that they live in. Everybody should make this drive a part of themselves,” said Khattar.

He further said that he would ensure the involvement of youth in full force towards this drive.

10 policemen killed by Al Qaeda in Yemen

Al Qaeda militants stormed a police station in Yemen’s Red Sea province of al-Hodayda Saturday, killing at least 10 policemen and seizing the district linking the Red Sea port to the central province of Ibb, security sources said.

A group of Al Qaeda militants attacked the police station in Jabal Ras district Saturday evening and then seized control of the area, about 226 km east of the capital Sanaa, Xinhua quoted the sources as saying.

36 killed in fresh clashes in Libya

Clashes between the Libyan army, backed by the renegade general Khalifa Haftar, and Islamist militias in the eastern city of Benghazi, killed 36 people Friday and Saturday, according to sources.

“The centre has received, in the last 24 hours, 21 dead bodies killed in clashes and random shooting,” a source in the Benghazi Medical Centre said, Xinhua reported.

Russia test fires intercontinental ballistic missile

Russian Strategic Missile Troops ( RVSN) Saturday test fired a Topol-M intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) to test its technical features, the defence ministry said.

“The Topol-M, a silo-based ICBM, was launched on Nov 1, at 9:20 a.m. local time (0620 GMT) from the Plesetsk cosmodrome in Russia’s northern Arkhangelsk region,” Xinhua quoted the ministry as saying in a statement.

The missile demonstrated its high precision capabilities with an overall good performance, as it hit a designated training target on Russia’s Kamchatka peninsula.

Maoists call for Telangana Bandh on Nov 8

The outlawed Maoists have called for Telangana State bandh on November 8.

In a press communiqué sent to the media houses, the banned CPI (Maoists) said that the bandh call is being given in protest against the suicide by farmers. The Maoists have urged all the business houses, commercial establishments and educational institutions to participate in the bandh. (INN)

Another threat of cyclone stares at coastal AP

Less than a month after facing the fury of dreaded Hudhud cyclone, the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh are facing the threat of another cyclone this month.

According to Met Department, the coastal districts are feared to be hit with another cyclone by November 8 or 9th. Another depression is likely to be formed in Bay of Bengal by November 5 and the same might intensify into a cyclonic storm. (INN)

Missing Techie, found safe in Bangalore

Another female software engineer, whose mobile was switched-off after boarding a bus in MGBS made, placed the entire City police force on the edge. However, it turned out that she was safe.

According to Afzalgunj police, Bharani, 26, a techie and resident of HUDA colony of Attapur is working as a software engineer in Bangalore. On October 26, she boarded a bus to Bangalore at 9 pm, while her father, P Mohan Rao gave her a send off at MGBS. However, when he tried contacting her mobile, it was switched off.

GHMC employee among two killed in road accidents

In separate cases, two persons were killed in road accidents in the city.

A 40-year-old man, K Srisailam, suffered grievous injuries when the motorcycle he was riding skidded on Road No 10 of Banjara Hills on Friday. He was immediately rushed to the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) where he died a few hours after the admission. He was an employee of GHMC and resident of Janaiah Nagar of Moosapet, Banjara Hills police said.

4-year-old dies after consuming tablets

A four-year-old boy who accidentally consumed some tablets died at the Gandhi Hospital while undergoing treatment.

According to Neredmet police, the boy, Ramcharan, accidentally consumed some tablets while playing at his house in Chandragiri Colony on October 25. He was admitted to the Gandhi Hospital where he died on Friday night. (INN)

Three pedestrians killed in road accidents

In separate cases, three pedestrians were killed in different accidents in the city and its outskirts.

In RGIA police limits, 50-year-old G Narayana was severely injured when he was hit by a jeep while he was crossing the road at Gaganpahad crossroads. The accident occurred on October 30. He was admitted to the Osmania General Hospital for treatment where he succumbed on Friday night. He was a mason and resident of Sathamrai of Shamshabad.

CM sore over power deadline; to move SC

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today articulated serious discontent over Krishna Water Board fixing deadline till November 2 for using 3 TMC of waters for power production in Srisailam project. As the deadline ending on November 2 to produce power at Srisailam, the Government may think an alternative to produce power at Nagarjuna Sagar, it is learnt. However power production was stalled for the time-being at Nagarjuna Sagar to avoid submergence of villages near Pulichintala under the project.

Power crisis, suicides by farmers in TS

The TRS Government was squarely held responsible for not properly and seriously pursuing with the central government to get resolved various issues being faced by Telangana State.

Ramana and others on Saturday lambasted the TRS leadership and ministers in failing to interact seriously with the central ministers and persuading them to come up with required assistance to resolve numerous problems confronting the state.

BJP holds meetings for selection of Delhi bypoll candidates

BJP today held several meetings involving top leaders as part of its practice to select candidates for bypolls to three Delhi Assembly seats.

Bypolls will be held on Krishna Nagar, Tughlaqabad and Mehrauli seats on November 25. These seats fell vacant after party leaders Harsh Vardhan, Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma and Ramesh Bidhuri were elected to the Lok Sabha.

The three MLAs are expected to play a major role in the selection of the candidates.
