Aalim has tied up with PVR pictures for their next film “Fury” where he is giving free haircuts to all the “Fury” fans who wish to copy the look, said a statement.

No remake of ‘Kaththi’ in Telugu

Vijay-starrer Tamil actioner “Kaththi”, which has turned out to be a blockbuster, won’t have a Telugu remake as the makers have decided to have a dubbed release instead.

The dubbed version is slated for a Nov 21 release.

“There were plans to remake the film, but these have been scrapped now. The Telugu producer has decided to go ahead and release the dubbed version,” a source from the production team told IANS.

Actor Pawan Kalyan was to star in the film’s Telugu remake. A special screening of the film was organised for him recently.

Air strikes in Pakistan kill 13 militants

At least 13 suspected militants were killed in air strikes on their hideouts in the Khyber Agency while two soldiers lost their lives in apparent retaliatory attacks, media reported Sunday.

Officials said that helicopter gunships and military planes targeted the banned Lashkar-i-Islam group’s bases in Nala-Malikdin Khel, Akkakhel and Sipah areas Saturday, Dawn online reported.

Besides 13 militants killed, eight others were injured and five hideouts destroyed in the air strike.

Sources said that five soldiers also suffered injuries in gun battles in different parts of Bara.

Debunking a prevalent theory of Alzheimer’s development, researchers have now found that it is not the amyloid-beta (A-beta) protein fragments but the tau tangle proteins which are the real culprits behind the disease.

Plaque made of beta-amyloid protein fragments and tangles formed from tau proteins are familiar hallmarks of disease in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients.

Tau protein spurs neuron death in disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, showed the findings that could explain why some people with plaque build-up in their brains do not have dementia.

Jamaat leader sentenced to death for war crimes

Mir Quasem Ali, a top leader of Bangladesh’s Jamaat-e-Islami, was sentenced to death Sunday for crimes committed during the 1971 Liberation War.

The International Crimes Tribunal-2, chaired by Justice Obaidul Hassan, passed the sentence, nearly six months after a case against him was wrapped up, bdnews24.com reported.

BSF recovers 22 kg heroin in Punjab, three arrested

Border Security Force (BSF) troopers Sunday arrested three smugglers and recovered 22 kg of heroin along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district, officials said.

Earlier reports quoted BSF sources as saying that one smuggler was shot dead and two others were arrested, and 22 kg of heroin was seized from the Dera Baba Nanak sector.

A BSF spokesman later said all the three arrested smugglers are Indian nationals. One pistol, ammunition, and Pakistani SIM cards were recovered from them.

“We hope that this early research could eventually lead to the development of non-invasive tests which are faster, more accurate and gentler, transforming the way we make a cancer diagnosis in the future,” said lead researcher Matthew Murray from University of Cambridge in Britain.

New test to track bird flu mutation

A team of Australian researchers has developed a new test to distinguish between birds that have been vaccinated against the H5N1 strain of the avian influenza virus or bird flu and those which have been naturally infected with the virus.

“Outbreaks in birds are largely being controlled by vaccination and this is limiting human exposure to this virus. With this new, more sensitive, test we can identify vaccinated birds with live virus and prevent the escape of any mutant strains,” said lead researcher Farhid Hemmatzadeh from the University of Adelaide in Australia.

Newly developed method can help `eradicate` H5N1 bird flu

A new research has developed a new test that can differentiate between birds that have been vaccinated against the H5N1 strain of avian influenza virus or ” bird flu” with those that have been naturally infected.

The study conducted at University of Adelaide can be a step in the fight against this often fatal strain of avian influenza which is widespread in the poultry populations of South East Asia, particularly Indonesia and Vietnam.

Muharram: Curfew-like restrictions in Srinagar

Curfew-like restrictions were imposed in Srinagar city today to prevent people from taking out Muharram processions to mark the eighth day of the 10-day mourning period.

Strict prohibitory orders under section 144 were imposed in the areas falling under Shaheed Gunj, Batamaloo, Shergarhi, Karan Nagar, Maisuma, Ram Munshi Bagh, Kothi Bagh, Kralkhud and Parimpora police stations of the city, an official spokesperson said.

He said the restrictions in these areas were imposed to maintain law and order.

SBI gets Rs 500 cr from Telangana as part of farm loan waiver

State Bank of India has received around Rs 500 crore from the Telangana government as part of the crop loan waiver scheme promised by the now ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti during the Assembly elections in May.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had announced the first installment of reimbursement totalling Rs 17,000 crore last September and various banks got Rs 4,250 crore, or 25 per cent of this total waived loans.

The Rao administration has said it will pay up to Rs 1 lakh to each of the 36 lakh affected farmers under the scheme.

Gold, silver recover on scattered buying

After two days of losses, gold prices recovered by Rs 50 to Rs 26,550 per 10 gm in the national capital on Saturday on buying at prevailing levels by jewellers and retailers even as metal remained weak overseas.

Silver followed suit and gained Rs 100 to Rs 36,250 per kg on scattered enquiries from industrial units.

Traders said revival of buying by ornament makers and retailers at existing levels, mainly supported the upside in gold prices.

They said, however, a weakening trend overseas, capped the gains on the domestic markets here.
