Japan to launch 2nd generation asteroid explorer Monday

Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) announced Saturday they will launch their second-generation Hayabusa2 asteroid explorer on Dec 1.

“After carefully examining the weather conditions at an emergency meeting today, we have decided to conduct the launch on Dec 1 (Monday) 2014. The launch time will be at 1:22:43 p.m.”, Xinhua quoted a release posted on JAXA’s website as saying.

The Japanese space agency announced Friday that the launch of Hayabusa2 originally scheduled on Sunday has been rescheduled due to weather conditions.

Amendment to Sedition Act to be tabled in Malaysian parliament

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak Saturday said the new provisions to improve and strengthen the Sedition Act will be tabled at the next parliament sitting.

Najib has called for sternness from the attorney-general and asked the police and the Malaysian Communications Multimedia Commission to carry out appropriate investigations on those charged under the Sedition Act, reported Xinhua citing Malaysian daily The Star.

BJP gets permission to hold Amit Shah’s Kolkata rally

After days of dilly-dallying, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and the fire brigade Saturday gave the go ahead to BJP president Amit Shah’s rally in the city Sunday.

Kolkata Municipal Corporation sources said the permission for the rally was given during the day after a joint inspection by the two Calcutta High Court appointed special officers – director general of state fire services Sanjoy Mukherjee and KMC joint commissioner (development) S Santra.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (central) D.P. Singh, fire brigade officials and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders were also present.

District registrar caught taking Rs 14,000 as bribe

A district registrar was caught by Lokayukta Police sleuths while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 14,000 from a farmer here today.

Sudhir Kumar Mishra (53) was trapped on the basis of a complaint filed by the farmer, Tulsiram Khati, who said the
officer had demanded the bribe to settle a land case, said B S Parihar, Lokayukta DSP.

Khati had purchased a piece of agriculture land in Shakkarkhedi village near here in 2003. The district registrar
office issued him a notice recently alleging he had got it registered without paying to the Government Rs 53,000 in stamp

Bikers loot Rs.1.5 crore in Delhi, guard shot dead

Two people on a bike looted Rs.1.5 crore from a cash van here after they fatally shot at a private company’s security guard, police said Saturday.

“Two people came on a motorcycle, opened fire at the security guard and took away a bag containing around Rs.1.5 crore in cash,” Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Goel told IANS.

Police also found three mobile camera footages showing two men on a black colour pulsor motorcycle with the pillon rider carrying a pistol and the looted bag. The footages were recorded by eyewitnesses.

Don’t shift WR HQ to Gujarat, Sena MP urges

The Shiv Sena Saturday opposed demands from some quarters to shift the Western Railway headquarters from Mumbai to Ahmedabad.

In a letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut urged him to ensure the WR headquarters is not shifted to Gujarat as it would be “insult to the 105 martyrs of the Samyukta Maharashtra movement.”

“Moves are underway to shift the WR headquarters from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. Some MPs from Gujarat had demanded this. This is a conspiracy to weaken Maharashtra by shifting establishments under the centre’s domain,” Raut said.

Army vehicle damaged in blast near LoC

An army vehicle was Saturday damaged in a blast near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, an official said, adding that there was no casualty.

The improvised explosive device blew up in Krishna Ghati (Poonch) sector, close to the LoC, around 10.30 a.m., defence ministry spokesman Col. Manish Mehta told IANS.

There was minor damage to the heavy vehicle, but there was no casualty, he said.

The area was immediately cordoned off by the security forces, and a search operation was launched.
