K.K. Textile Agencies Group on Friday launched a three-day second National Textile Agency Expo-2014 at Hotel Millennium here. The Expo was inaugurated by Shamlal Agarwal, Chairman of the Expo.

Kishan Kumar Agarwal, director, said the Expo is mainly aimed at exhibiting the textile might of India where a large number of textile dealers from across the country will take part in this big event showcasing various fabrics and textiles products at the exposition.

Sohrabuddin case: Brother seeks narco test on Shah, others

Slain gangster Sohrabuddin Sheikh’s brother today moved the special CBI court seeking directions to conduct narco-analysis test on BJP President Amit Shah and 37 others accused in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Tulsiram Prajapati encounter cases.

The court is likely to hear the application on August 14.

In the application moved before special CBI judge B H Loya, Sheikh’s brother Rubabuddin said that the CBI has not
decided who was the mastermind behind his brother’s killing.

Gold prices up on scattered buying, silver ends lower

Gold prices inched up by Rs 5 to Rs 28,250 per ten gram in the national capital on scattered buying by retailers amid recovery in global prices.

Silver, however, met with resistance and shed Rs 50 to Rs 44,850 per kg.

Traders said apart from buying by retailers for the coming festive season, a better trend in the global market mainly led to rise in gold prices. Globally, gold traded 0.20 per cent higher at $1,284.91 an ounce in London.

E-rickshaws to never stop in Delhi, opposition indulging in dirty politics

Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Satish Upadhyay said here on Friday that the party fully supports the use of E-rickshaws in the national capital and would ensure that this service continues.

“E-rickshaws will not stop functioning in Delhi; the Lieutenant Governor will put forth the best defence and will even go to the Supreme Court if necessary,” said Upadhyay after a delegation of Delhi BJP leaders had called on L.G. Najib Jung to discuss the issue.

He also criticized the opposition for indulging in dirty politics over the E-rickshaw issue.

Indian Medical Association demands ban on use of antibiotics for growth promotion in poultry

A day after an environment body said that “large-scale and indiscriminate” use of antibiotics in poultry industry might be “strongly linked” to growing antibiotic resistance in Indians, Indian Medical Association (IMS) today called for a ban on use of antibiotics for growth promotion and mass disease prevention in poultry.

It should only be used to cure the sick based on prescription of veterinarians, the medical body said.

Actress Nimrat Kaur, best known for her role in epistolary romance film ‘The Lunchbox’, has landed a recurring role in popular political thriller ‘Homeland 4’.

This is the 32-year-old actress’s first international project in which she will be playing the role of a high-level operative within Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The benchmark Sensex today plunged over 414 points, logging its biggest single-day drop in over 3 weeks, to end at 25,480.84 on across-the-board losses in bluechips amid a global sell-off.

US blames India for collapse of WTO trade deal talks

The United States has blamed India for the collapse of the talks for a Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) and said that New Delhi taking a hardline position has put the future of World Trade Organisation in “uncertain ground”.

In a statement, the US has regretted that “India and handful of (WTO) Members” decided not to adhere to their commitment to implement the TFA consistent with the Bali agreement.

India has been maintaining that it would not adopt the protocol on the TFA until a permanent solution is found on the public stock holding for food security purposes.

UN: More than 1,700 killed in Iraq in July

More than 1,700 people were killed in Iraq in July, the United Nations said today, making it one of the deadliest months of the year but marking a decline from the previous month, when Sunni militants swept across much of the country.

The UN mission to Iraq said in its monthly statement that at least 1,737 people were killed in July, down from 2,400 deaths in June, when the Islamic State group spearheaded a lightning blitz that saw Sunni militants seize much of northern and western Iraq, including the second largest city Mosul.

Hyundai July sales down marginally

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) today reported a marginal decline of 1.42% in total sales to 48,010 units in July.

The company had sold 48,704 units in the same month of last year, it said in a statement.

In the domestic market, Hyundai sold 29,260 units last month as compared to 25,965 units in July 2013, an increase of 12.69%.

During the month, Hyundai’s exports declined 17.54% to 18,750 units as against 22,739 units in the same month last year.

‘Achche din’ for factory output as July HSBC Manufacturing PMI hits 17-month high

India’s manufacturing sector growth jumped to 17-month high in July, driven by “flood of new orders” from both domestic and overseas companies on the back of post-election boost to sentiments, an HSBC survey said.

The HSBC India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI), a measure of factory production, rose to 53.0 in July, up from 51.5 in June, signalling a solid improvement in business conditions.

A PMI reading above 50 indicates growth while a lower reading means contraction.

Shocking: Man jailed for raping 92-year-old

Nothing can be more shocking and shamefull as a 26-year-old man has been sentenced to ten years in prison by a court here for raping a 92-year-old woman four years ago.

The victim was raped by Mantu at her house in Kandhla town of Shamli district on August 10, 2011.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Shyam Kumar also imposed a fine of Rs 55,000 on the accused Mantu after holding him guilty yesterday.

The victim died during pendency of the case but her statement was recorded in court.
