Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas today pledged to be an organ donor on the occasion of ‘World Organ Donation Day’ even as he appealed people and especially the kin of brain dead patients to come forward for the cause, to save the needy.

Inaugurating an event on organ donation and transplantation organised by CARE hospital here, the minister said he has decided to donate his organs and will also mention it in his will.

NASA creates space engine like none other

In what could be a game changer in space exploration, NASA has successfully tested a “microwave thruster system” that requires no propellant to generate thrust.

The engine appears to produce propulsion through electricity and nothing else.

In a test paper, NASA scientists said they recorded about 30-50 micro-Newtons (mN) of thrust from an electrical propulsion test article, harnessing subatomic quantum particles.

Leader of Opposition in Gujarat Assembly and senior Congress leader Shankersinh Vaghela today lambasted the BJP-led Gujarat government for allegedly failing to curb crimes against women.

Vaghela was referring to an alleged gangrape of a 16-year-old tribal girl in Sabarkantha district yesterday.

“That girl was raped twice by several men. She escaped from the clutches of rapists and is now being treated at a hospital. This incident took place on the day when our Minister of State for Home (Rajni Patel) was on official visit to that area,” Vaghela alleged.

Terrorists could Ebola virus to make bomb, says anthropologist

Flesh-eating Ebola virus could be used by terrorists to create a “dirty bomb” that might be used to explode cities in UK, according to reports.

Dr Peter Walsh, a biological anthropologist from Cambridge University told the Sun that serious risk was that a group manages to attach the virus as a powder, then exploded it in a bomb in a highly populated public area, News.com.au reported.

Dr Walsh said that it was a threat that was taken very seriously.

All-party meet on Insurance Bill fails to iron out differences

An all-party meeting today failed to hammer out a consensus over the controversial Insurance Bill which was scheduled to be taken up in Rajya Sabha. Leaders agreed to hold a fresh round of consultations in the next two days as the brief meeting in Parliament House remained inconclusive.

“The meeting remained inconclusive. We have agreed to meet again in the next two days to arrive at a consensus on the possible formulation of the legislation,” NCP leader Praful Patel, who attended the meeting, told reporters here.

In a barbaric incident, a woman was stripped, tied to a pole and tortured by villagers who suspected her of practising witchcraft in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.

The incident occurred in Jodapokhari village on July 27 following the death of a tribal youth Susant Hansda, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Rairangpur, Mohan Pani said today quoting a delayed report.
The villagers suspected that Susant died due to the witchcraft being practised by Pana Hansda, wife of Kasrai Hansda of the village, he said.

Malik, Amir back prison terms for match-fixers

Pakistan`s banned cricketers, Salim Malik and Mohammad Amir have backed moves by New Zealand`s government to enforce prison sentences for players found guilty of spot or match fixing.

Malik, who is serving a life ban for match fixing and Amir who is in the fourth year of a five year ban for spot fixing, said prison terms would help curb the menace of corruption.

“I think it is a good move by New Zealand`s government and other cricket playing nations should also follow it,” Malik, who has pleaded innocence since being banned in 2000, told Reuters.

At least 20 kids fall ill after drinking water in Bihar school

At least six children fainted and 20 fell ill Monday after drinking water at a school in Bihar’s Bhojpur district, an official said. All were out of danger after receiving medical treatment.

The incident took place at a government-run primary school in Bangawan in the district, about 60 km from here, a district official said.

“Soon after drinking water during a break, children complained of uneasiness in stomach and and started vomiting. Twenty of them fell ill and six of them fainted,” the official said.

Man brutally murdered in Chandrayangutta
(Siasat News): A 27-year-old man was brutally murdered at Chandrayangutta and was identified as Syed Pasha.

As per the detail, the deceased Pasha had gone to Lal Darwaza yesterday to meet his friend Raju where some unidentified people demanded money for boozing and when their demand was not met, Pasha was severely beaten.

Pasha came back to his residence in Vattepally where he suddenly fell unconscious. He was admitted in a hospital where he died during the treatment.

Rolls Royce not to be blacklisted

The Defence Ministry has decided against blacklisting British engine manufacturer Rolls Royce and allowed the armed forces to do business related to essential requirements with the firm, which is facing a CBI probe for allegedly paying commissions and employing middlemen in contracts with state-owned HAL.

This follows the Attorney General’s opinion which favoured that IAF and the Navy can procure systems essential for their maintenance and operational requirements of the two services, Defence Ministry sources said here.

4-day CBI remand for Syndicate Bank CMD S K Jain, 7 others

Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Syndicate Bank S K Jain and seven others were on Sunday remanded in CBI custody for four days as the agency plans to probe various other angles into the case that may emerge from the telephonic transcripts of the official and conduits.

Sensex gains 128 points in early trade on Asian cues

The benchmark BSE Sensex gained over 128 points in early trade on Monday on emergence of buying by funds and retail investors in select stocks.

Besides, a firming trend in other Asian markets buoyed the trading sentiments here.

The 30-share index, which had lost 606.58 points in the previous two sessions, recovered by 128.14 points, or 0.50 percent, to 25,608.95, with all the sectoral index, led by realty, banking and metals, trading in positive zone with gains up to 1.31 percent.

Also, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty rose 38.20 points, or 0.50 per cent, to 7,640.80.

Hyderabad Airport begins Ebola screening

The RGI Airport at Shamshabad started screening of passengers at the arrival section for the rapidly spreading deadly virus, Ebola.

As per the airport authorities, an announcement is being made at the arrivals section of the airport regarding the symptoms of the Ebola Virus disease.

A health team stationed at the airport will screen the passengers who come up to them with these symptoms. If the presence of this virus is tested positive in any individual, then they will be sent for medication to designated hospitals.

Harassing women could land you in jail, 449 held

At least 449 people were detained by police since Saturday during a drive against those harassing women.
The four-day drive was intended at not only containing the rising incidents of sexual offences, but also inculcates confidence among women.

Alok Kumar, Additional Commissioner (Law and Order), told the correspondents that police workforce in mufti had been deployed across the city.

“The offenders are booked under the Karnataka Police Act, 1963,” he said, and added that the intelligence wing of the jurisdictional police had also been instructed to identify vulnerable points.
