Hyderabad HC issues notice to Mallika Sherawat over obscene movie poster

The Hyderabad High Court today issued a notice against actress Mallika Sherawat for allegedly dishonouring the Indian national flag.

The petitioner T. Dhangopal Rao, approached the high court and filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against her questioning her defaming the nation over a poster of a film that shows the Bollywood actress draped in the three colours of the national flag.

The court has asked them to reply to the notice in a month.

Nawaz Sharif ready to address oppositions’ concerns

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today said that the government is ready to address oppositions’ concerns.

Denying that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) ‘million march’ posed a threat to his government, Sharif had earlier reiterated his commitment to resolving issues with the PTI chief through talks.

According to the Dawn, Sharif said on Sunday that political problems were always resolved through dialogue and understanding and added that the grievances of the opposition will be addressed through talks either after the Azadi March or before it.

IAF deploys C-17 Globemaster in Bihar for flood relief operations

Fearing a flood like situation in Bihar, the Indian Air Force deployed C-17 Globemaster in Purnia district on Monday for flood relief operations.

Earlier today, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh assured all help and assistance to the Government of Bihar to counter the threat of floods looming large along the Kosi belt near the Bihar-Nepal border.

Singh telephoned Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and took stock of the situation in the state in the wake of threat of floods in Bihar.

Mehta, Malik released for lack of evidence; no charges framed

IOA secretary general Rajeev Mehta and unattached wrestling referee Virender Malik, who were arrested on different reasons, were today released after charges against them were dropped for lack of evidence, putting an end to their unsavoury ordeal. The charges against both the Indian officials were dropped after the prosecution failed to produce enough evidence against the duo in the Glasgow Magistrate’s Court.

Govt. of Telangana has decided to setup Mobile Jammers in the wake of the complaints that the jail inmates are using cell phones during their imprisonments. Mr. V.K. Singh, DG of Prisons will visit Patna Jail to study the system in that jail. He insisted that there is a need to setup jammers to paralyze the cell phone system within jails.

Govt. decides to legislate special stamps act.

Govt. of Telangana has decided to formulate special stamps act. It will array with the states of Maharastra, Gujarat and Karnataka for this purpose. It is reported that in Telangana State, Govt. of India stamps act of 1899 is in vogue which contains the clauses of seaports. Since there is no seaport in Telangana State, there is a need to amend this act. It is said that this act is 100 years old. Govt. has constituted a subcommittee with IG of registration and stamps, DIGs of Kareem Nagar, Hyderbad and Ranga Reddy Districts.

Govt. schemes implementation in doldrums

Confusion prevails among the officials of AP and Telangana regarding the implementation of Govt. schemes for lack of clarity. The scheme to provide financial assistance to SCs, STs, BCs and Minorities through banks has been suspended due to non release of funds. Minorities Finance Corporation did not get permission to release subsidy. After the formation of Telangana State on 2nd June all the PD accounts of various departments were freezed. The accounts of Urdu Academy and Hajj committee were transferred to other accounts and hence they are in a position to continue their schemes.

After a long gap of seven years, the hearing of Makkah Masjid Bomb Blast case started yesterday at criminal court, Nampally. The statements of two witnesses were recorded. Defense Counsel interrogated them. The hearing is continuing at the court of First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge. It is a special court for National Investigation Agency also. The witness were: Mr. Mirza Abdullah Baig, former Head Constable of Husaini Alam Police Station and Mr. Mohammed Mannan, Manager of Makkah Masjid.

Decision after receipt of order copy: Vinod

Speaking to the media, Vinod said the SC judges have only expressed their opinion on the issue and the Telangana State government would apply its mind only after going through the copy of the SC verdict. He also disagreed with the contention that AP arguments on the issue were accepted by the court.

Panthers Party questions Britain’s right to discuss Kashmir

Challenging the British Parliament’s right to debate human rights violations in Kashmir, the National Panthers Party (NPP) said Monday Jammu and Kashmir is as much a part of India as Wales is of Britain.

Talking to media here Monday, NPP’s patron Bhim Singh said just 40 of the 640 British parliamentarians agreeing to debate the alleged violations in Jammu and Kashmir does not change the reality that the state is an integral part of the country.

He also questioned the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this sensitive issue.

1947 killings made Pakistani embrace jehad

Suspected Indian Mujahideen operative Zia-ur-Rahman embraced jehad after learning about Muslim killings during the 1947 India-Pakistan partition, Delhi Police told a court here Monday.

The Pakistani, known widely by his alias Waqas, also told police that terrorist groups were active in raising funds and recruiting young boys for jehad in Pakistan.

The Delhi Police statement came in its fresh set of charges filed in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Reetesh Singh against Waqas for the 2010 Jama Masjid terror attack here.

Indian navy chief to visit Canada

Indian Navy chief Admiral Robin Dhowan will begin a four-day visit to Canada Tuesday to foster closer ties between the two countries’ marine forces, an official statement said.

Dhowan is visiting Canada on the invitation of the commander of Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) and reciprocates a visit by the RCN commander to India in January 2013, a navy release said.

During his visit, the navy chief will visit Esquimalt Naval Base at Victoria, the headquarters of the Maritime Forces Pacific of the Canadian Navy.

Less than 1 percent disabled Indian kids enrolled in schools

Less than 1 percent of the disabled children in India are enrolled in the schools, parliament was informed Monday.

“The report of the National Right to Education (RTE) Forum Delhi and Society for Promotion of Area Resource Centres (SPARC) India shows that enrollment of disabled children in schools is less than 1 percent,” Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.

Arvind Gupta appointed deputy NSA

Former diplomat Arvind Gupta was Monday appointed deputy national security adviser in place of former police officer Nehchal Sandhu, who had resigned last week.

Gupta, a 1979 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, will also be secretary, National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS).

An official communication issued by the department of personnel and training said that Gupta, who is at present director general of Institute of Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA), has been appointed for a period of three years with immediate effect on “re-employment on contract basis”.

WWI victims commemorated in Belgium

The governor of Belgium’s Liege province Monday paid tribute to the victims of the First World War (WWI) as part of ceremonies to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the war.

Speaking at the Cointe Inter-Allied Memorial in Liege, Governor Michel Foret asked gathered dignitaries to remember all those who died during the conflict.

The ceremony was attended by over 80 representatives from various countries, including the French and German presidents.

Israel agrees to 72-hour ceasefire with Hamas

Israel has accepted an Egyptian proposal for a 72-hour ceasefire with Hamas movement starting 8 a.m. Tuesday, Israeli media reported Monday.

Delegates from both sides approved the unconditional truce late Monday in a round of phone calls. During the 72 hours, an Israeli delegation is scheduled to arrive in Cairo to negotiate with the Palestinians, Xinhua reported citing the Walla news website.

The UN mission in Libya hopes that the newly-elected parliament can lead efforts to end surging violence and promote political process, a UN spokesperson said Monday.

Welcoming the changes announced by the Central government in civil services preliminary exams, Delhi BJP on Monday said the decision has solved the basic problem of the UPSC aspirants.
