SC stays proceedings of panel probing judge’s sexual harassment

The Supreme Court Friday stayed the probe into allegations of sexual harassment by a former Gwalior district judge against a sitting judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

The composition of the committee, set up by the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court, was objected to by the woman judge saying that it included a judge who had transferred her out of Gwalior.

Dy CM announces hassle-free Hajj camp, increase of Waqf revenue

Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Muhammad Mahmood Ali visited Hajj House on Thursday and reviewed the performance of various Minority institutions. He got acquainted with the Hajj Camp 2014 arrangements. This is his first visit to Hajj House as deputy chief minister.

Speaking to media persons he assured every possible help from the government for conduct of Hajj Camp 2014. He announced that the government will release Rs. 2 crore from the budget allotted to the Hajj Committee in connection with the effective arrangements of Hajj camp.

Child marriage on rise in Kerala: UNICEF

Notwithstanding a better gender balance in the southern part of the country, child marriage has been found to be on the rise in Kerala in recent years, according to UNICEF.

“In the southern part of India we have a relatively better gender balance which explains lower rates of child marriage. Nevertheless, recent studies have shown a rising rate in Kerala,” UNICEF’s Child Protection Specialist in India Dora Giusti said.

Giusti attributed the phenomenon in the state, considered India’s most literate, to migration from the northern part of the country.

L&T Infra Finance to purchase 20.23 hectares in Lavasa City

L&T Infra Finance has signed an agreement with Lavasa Corporation to purchase 20.23 hectares of land at Mugaon town in Lavasa City.

“L&T Infra Finance, a subsidiary of L&T Finance Holdings, has signed an agreement with Lavasa Corporation for purchase of 20.23 hectares of land, with a development potential of five lakh square feet at Mugaon town in Lavasa City near Pune,” a release issued here today by Lavasa said. However, the company did not disclose financial details of the deal.

Local BSP leader’s brother shot dead in Jhansi

The brother of a local BSP leader was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Kotbehra village in the district, police said today.

Sandeep Dohre (35) was shot dead last night by the assailants, Superintendent of Police Awadhesh Kumar said.

The victim is the brother of local BSP leader Santosh Dohre.

On the complaint of Santosh, a named FIR has been registered against Anil, Karan and Devendra Yadav, who are absconding.

Aide of Indian Mujahideen ultras arrested

A suspected aide of Indian Mujahideen (IM) operatives Waqas Ahamed and Tehseen Akthar was arrested at Munnar in Kerala’s Idukki district on Friday.

According to police, Shamil Safikula had allegedly arranged stay for Waqas and Akthar when they came to Munnar a few months before their arrest from Delhi earlier this year. Shamil, who hails from Bihar, had been absconding since the arrest of the duo.

He had returned to Munnar last night and was picked up by police on getting a tip-off.

ONGC board approves Rs 5219 crore investment in Daman gas fields

State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) has said it will invest Rs. 5,219 crore in bringing to production Daman gas fields in the Arabian sea by July 2016.

The board of ONGC at its meeting today approved “investing Rs. 5,219 crore towards Daman Development project to enhance production of natural gas and condensate in its Tapti Daman Block in Arabian Sea,” the company said in a statement.

The project is located about 90-100 kilometers from Daman coast and includes additional development of C-24 field and monetization of B-12 marginal fields (B-12-11, B-12-13 and B-12-15).

Actor Stephen Lee dies of heart attack at 58

“Seinfeld” actor Stephen Lee has died, his friend and actress Lisa Pescia has confirmed. He was 58.

Lee passed away after suffering a heart attack in his apartment here Aug 14, but the news of his death was confirmed only Wednesday, reports people.com.

He began his acting career in the early 1980s with dramas like “Hart to Hart”, “Hill Street Blues”, “Remington Steele” and “Scarecrow and Mrs.King”.

He had a recurring role as Tony B on “Nash Bridges” and also appeared on shows including “Dark Angel”, “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Bones”.

NATO releases images showing Russian forces in Eastern Ukraine

A report has revealed that NATO has released satellite images that show Russian armed forces in Ukrainian territory supporting the pro-Russia rebels fighting against Kiev.
