Rajnath Singh refuses to name person spreading ‘rumours’ about his son

Even as rumours are doing the rounds that an insider in the Bharatiya Janata Party was responsible for leaking the story behind Rajnath Singh’s son being ticked off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for alleged misconduct, the Union Home Minister refused to be drawn into the controversy today and asked media to find out whatever it wanted to.

When asked by journalists whether he suspected any person or leader to be behind the rumours he told them, “You are investigative journalist and you should find out who is the rumour monger,” PTI reported.

HRD Minister Smriti Irani Friday said the response given to government’s initiative of holding essay writing competition, to mark Teachers’ Day, has been “tremendous”.

“Tremendous response to Gurutsav 2014 essay writing competition. 24,697 registered (on) the first day including 866 special students,” Irani said in a tweet.

The human resource development (HRD) ministry has announced ‘Gurustav 2014’, an essay writing competition where students can send online and offline write-ups “sharing inspiring stories about their teachers”.

A new study has revealed a piece of evidence about the origin of flight among earliest birds suggesting that birds had an innate ability to maneuver in midair that helped their ancestors learn to fly.

Researchers from University of California, Berkeley, found that even ungainly, day-old baby birds successfully used their flapping wings to right themselves when they fell from a nest, a skill that improved with age until they became coordinated and graceful flyers.

Justice Mudgal panel files probe report in SC on IPL betting

Justice Mukul Mudgal committee, which was directed by the Supreme Court to conduct a probe against ICC President N Srinivasan and 12 prominent players in the IPL betting and spot-fixing scandal, today filed its report in a sealed cover before the apex court.

A bench headed by Justice T S Thakur took the report on record after a senior advocate mentioned the matter and fixed it for hearing on September one.

The court had in May rejected the proposal of BCCI to conduct the probe through its own panel and had given the task of investigation to Justice Mudgal panel.

Over three million people have fled Syria: United Nations

The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) Friday announced that over three million Syrians have been registered as refugees and the crisis is only getting worse, BBC reported.

The UNHCR said Syria is now “the biggest humanitarian emergency of our era” with almost half of the Syrians forced to flee their homes.

It said one in every eight Syrians has fled across the border and a further 6.5 million are displaced within Syria and half of them are children.

KCR promises to make Hyderabad most happening city

Promising to turn Hyderabad into the most happening city in the country, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao Friday announced that 1,000 km long world-class roads will be laid in the city at a cost of Rs 10,000 crore.

Announcing series of measures to develop the city and ease congestion, he said an east-west road corridor with four lanes would be developed between Vanasthalipuram and Ramachandrapuram. “Similarly a corridor will be developed between north and south,” he said.

Trainee IPS officer drowns at academy

A trainee police officer drowned in a swimming pool at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (NPA) late Thursday night, sources said.

Manu Mukt Manav, a trainee Indian Police Service (IPS) officer belonging to Haryana, drowned in the swimming pool during a party of trainee officers in the academy campus at Shivrampally.

According to academy sources, the trainee officer was shifted to a private hospital in Banjara Hills, where he was declared dead.

Five girls swept away in Bihar river, three rescued

Five minor girls were on Friday swept away by the turbulent waters of Lokai River in Nalanda district of Bihar during an idol immersion ceremony, police said.

While three of them were rescued, two girls identified as Pinki Kumari (14) and Dhanmanti Kumari (10) are missing, they said.

The incident occurred at Doman Bigha village in Hilsa sub-division of the district. The girls had gone in a religious procession to immerse the idols of Shiva-Parvati at the end of ‘Teej’ fast.

1 cup black grapes, halved

Method

Add the juice, yogurt, sugar and mint in a blender.

RBI Can Cut Policy Rates Even if Federal Reserve Hikes: BofA-ML

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) could cut policy rates by 75-100 basis points starting early 2015 even if the Federal Reserve hikes rates next year, Bank of America-Merrill Lynch has said in a report.

Monetary policies of the developed market and emerging markets, especially India, have turned “asynchronous” in recent years, the global financial services major said in its report.

“We believe that the RBI can continue to cut policy rates by 75-100 bps in 2015 from January to revive growth even if the Fed tapers off.”

Astronomers witness ‘terrestrial planets forming’ asteroids smashup

Astronomers have spotted an eruption of dust around a young star, which is possibly the result of a smashup between large asteroids that eventually lead to the formation of terrestrial planets.

Youth held for harassing married woman in UP Roadways bus

A married woman was allegedly harassed by a youth inside a Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus on Haridwar-Muzaffarnagar highway near here, police said Friday.

The incident took place yesterday when the accused, identified as Ajay Kumar, allegedly passed lewd remarks and harassed the woman who was travelling with her husband in the bus from Haridwar to Muzaffarnagar, police said.

The accused was then beaten up by the woman’s husband and others present in the bus before being handed over to the police. A complaint has been registered against Ajay and he has been arrested, they said.

A new study has found that new dads take at least five months to get the hang of fatherhood.

According to the study for Galt Toys, men who are soon to come fathers are caught up in anxiety over whether they are up to the job and often fret about following the mother’s strict instructions, and are usually overwhelmed by the basic routine, the Daily Express reported.

Nearly 70 percent of new dads admitted that they knew “almost nothing at all” about parenting and were clueless about what to expect from the pregnancy and labor.
