Thane, Navi Mumbai accounted for 40% of new launches in city

Notwithstanding weak market sentiment, Mumbai witnessed a significant rise in housing project launches in January-June period with Thane and Navi Mumbai accounting for nearly 40 percent of total units launched in Mumbai during H1 2014, according to a CBRE study.

Micro-markets like Dronagiri, Karanjade, Panvel and Ulwe in Navi Mumbai and locations along Ghodbunder Road in Thane formed a significant proportion of units launched in the high and mid-end segments during the period, said property consultant CBRE.

A new study has found that stimulating a specific part of bran with non-invasive electric current, called Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, could boost a person’s memory.

Senior author Joel Voss at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine said that the study showed for the first time that memory functions of the brain in adults could be specifically changed without surgery or drugs. It had tremendous potential for treating memory disorders.

A rift in BJP here came to fore today when party’s State President Laxmikant Bajpai was shown black flag during a function and two factions clashed with each other in front of him.

The incident happened when Bajpai had arrived here to inaugurate the party office of BJP candidate from Saharanpur Nagar assembly seat.

India lodged a strong protest with Pakistan over repeated ceasefire violations by the neigbouring country on Friday.

BSF and Pak Rangers held a key sector commander-level flag meeting to defuse tension along the Indo-Pak border due to these violations.

The DIG-Brigade commander level meeting was held between BSF and Pak Rangers at Octerio Border Out Post in Suchetgarh forward belt of R S Pura along the International Border and went on for nearly three hours, BSF officials said.

This was the third flag meeting to discuss ceasefire violations.

One killed, 17 injured as bus overturns

One person was killed and 17 others were injured when a bus carrying pilgrims overturned near Dhraul, a remote tribal area of the district, this evening.

The condition of six of the injured is stated to be critical and they have been rushed to regional hospital in Chamba while others are being treated at Bharmour hospital, said Superintendent of Police, Chamba, D K Chaudhary.

The passengers were returning after paying obeisance at Kugti temple in the tribal area, police said.

The vehicle overturned and rolled down between Bharmour and Kugti in remote tribal area of Chamba.

The Crime branch on Friday arrested one Bilal Harun Gilani, a close aide of Afroz Fatta, in connection with the alleged hawala scam which is believed to be to the tune of Rs 5,395 crore, said officials.

“We have arrested Afroz Fatta’s close aide Bilal Harun Gilani today in connection with the multi-crore hawala scam,” said an official from the Surat City Crime Branch.

The official has said that Bilal was involved in the key transactions made by Fatta and other co-accused and was crucial in sending Rs 1,200 crore through hawala transaction to the foreign countries.

Opposition Congress on Friday expelled Manturam Pawar from the party who in a surprise move withdrew his candidature for the Antagarh assembly bypoll in Chhattisgarh to be held next month.

“After his consent, Pawar was nominated as the party’s candidate from the seat, but he cheated us at the final moment and insulted the emotions of hundreds of party workers. Ghar Wapasi: Church turned Temple as Hindus reverted

7th Day Adventists Church were turned into a temple adorned with a portrait of Shiva after what some Hindu groups in Aligarh termed the “successful ghar wapasi” (reconversion) of 72 Valmikis who had become Christians in 1995.

A reconversion of 72 Valmikis (a Dalit sect of Hinduism) was completed at a village near the church belonging to the 7th Day Adventists was turned into a temple on Thursday.

Russia intensifies efforts inside Ukraine: Pentagon

Russia continues to build up along its border with Ukraine and has moved sophisticated weapons systems into the country, a Pentagon spokesman said Friday.

Russian forces are “facilitating the movement and then helping the separatists to use the weapons, if not using it themselves in support of separatists”, Xinhua quoted John Kirby, Pentagon press secretary, as saying.

Kirby called Russian actions an “intensification” of the behaviours the Kremlin has exhibited for months.

Urdu Medium Govt. school at Nawab Sahab Kunta devoid of basic amenities

Govt. constructed a 3 storey building for Urdu medium primary school at Nawab Sahab Kunta in Bahadurpura Assembly constituency. It has six rooms but it is very regrettable that this building has no basic amenities although 3 months have elapsed after reopening of the school. It has classes I-V but there are only two teachers in the school. The students of 5 classes are being taught in 2 rooms only due to lack of teachers. There are no benches due to which the students are forced to sit on the floor.

30000 Engineering seats vacant

At the end of first phase of EAMCET Counseling, there are still 30000 seats vacant in engineering courses. Only 55000 students have taken admission so far. MMTS Service upto Shamsabad Airport

A plan to consider extending MMTS Service upto Shamsabad International Airport is under active consideration. South Central Railway Authorities rejected the proposal to lay railway line beyond 3.4 Km from the Airport. Railway authorities contend that it will be a futile exercise if the convenience of the railway passengers is not taken into consideration.

General Manager of SCR, Mr. Srivastava told that there is a plan to lay railway line upto GMR Airport Terminal. Negotiations with the Govt. of Telangana are in progress for this plan.
