It’s always fun to work with Salman, says Kareena

Actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, who is part of Salman Khan’s next film ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, says she shares a good rapport with the superstar and they make a “lovely pairing” on screen.

Salman and Kareena, who were last seen romancing each other on screen in ‘Bodyguard’, will be seen together in the Kabir Khan-directed movie.

“I loved the film (script) and my role. While Salman will play the title role of Bajrangi Bhaijaan, I am playing a Brahmin girl,” Kareena told PTI, without divulging any further details.

Gaza death toll spirals towards 1,000 amid 12-hour truce

Gaza residents today used a 12-hour humanitarian truce agreed to by Israel and Hamas on a UN request to pull out several bodies from mounds of rubble and metal of bombed homes, as the Palestinian death toll climbed to nearly 1,000.

With the temporary ceasefire on, Palestinians frantically scoured through the rubble with medics saying 85 bodies had been retrieved across the Gaza Strip.

The discovery of the bodies under mounds of rubble had pushed the death toll to 985 Palestinians killed in the coastal enclave since the conflict began on July 8.

GHMC proposes “Gourav Sadans” for beggars

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is planning to establish “Gourav Sadans”, the shelters for the beggars in GHMC area.

GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar, APIIC Vice-Chairman Dr Jayesh Ranjan, along with representatives of NGOs have discussed and reviewed the status of survey of beggars at various traffic junctions done by NGOs as a part of rehabilitation of beggars in GHMC area. The NGOs have informed that about 239 beggars were identified at 16 traffic junctions in GHMC area.

Kavita Consoles Masaipet Accident Victims In Yashoda

Nizamabad MP K Kavitha on Saturday consoled the kin of the victims of Masaipet accident at Yashoda Hospital, Secunderabad.

Kavitha this morning visited Secunderabad Yashoda hospital where school students, who were injured in the Masaipet accident, getting the treatment.

Speaking to the media on the occasion, the Nizamabad MP said the government would extend all possible help to the victims of Masaipet. She assured that the government would take steps to prevent such accidents after getting the report from the Railways.

Himachal CM gets exemption in defamation cases

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh Saturday appeared in two trial courts here and secured personal bonds for exemption from personal appearance in two defamation suits against him.

The cases were filed by state Subordinate Services Selection Board former chairman S.M. Katwal.

Official sources said the chief minister appeared in the courts of Chief Judicial Magistrate Parveen Chauhan and Judicial Magistrate Divya Jyoti separately and secured bonds of Rs.10,000 each.

The former court listed the matter for next hearing Sep 5, while the latter Aug 12.

Mid-day meal: 12 students fall ill in Bihar

At least 12 students fell ill in Bihar Saturday after eating their mid-day meal at a government school, officials said.

The children complained of uneasiness after the meal at the Dera Baba middle school in Buxar district, about 125 km from here, a district official said.

They were admitted to a government-run primary health centre at Simri and are said to be out of danger.

The official said some children informed the authorities that there was a dead lizard in the meal served to them.

Algerian transport minister to visit AH-5017 crash site

Algeria’s Transport Minister Amar Ghoul is expected to arrive in Ouagadougou Saturday to visit the site where Air Algeria’s flight AH5017 crashed Thursday.

Burkina Faso’s Transport Minister Jean Bertin Ouedraogo Friday said that while in Ouagadougou, Ghoul would hold talks with Burkina Faso President Blaise Compaore, Xinhua reported.

Flight AH5017 from Ouagadougou to Algiers crashed Thursday in northern Mali with 116 people on board.

None of the passengers who were from 16 nationalities survived.

Iran’s envoy to India says Muslims should help Palestinians

Iran’s Ambassador to India, Ghulam Raza Ansari, has called on Muslims across the world to help Palestinians to have their own land, as death toll in the Gaza Strip passed 800.

Muslims in Agra in Uttar Pradesh staged a protest against Israeli attacks on Gaza.

Gaza officials said Israeli strikes killed 33 people on Friday, including the head of media operations for Hamas ally Islamic Jihad and his son. They put the number of Palestinian deaths in 18 days of conflict at 822, most of them civilians.

Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad are venues for WI Tests

The BCCI Tours and Fixtures Committee has shortlisted Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad for India’s three-Test series against the West Indies during October and November this year.

The committee has allotted the five ODIs to Kolkata, Visakhapatnam, Cuttack, Dharamsala and Kochi while Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla will be hosting its first ever T20 International.

Talks start in Paris to press for long-term Gaza truce

US Secretary of State John Kerry and other top diplomats from Europe and the Middle East held talks in Paris today to press efforts for a long-term ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

Kerry met with French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius and their counterparts from Britain, Germany, Italy, Qatar and Turkey as a 12-hour “humanitarian” truce in Gaza entered into force.

Obama urges Afghan presidential rivals to work together

US President Barack Obama has spoken with the men vying to become Afghanistan’s next head of state, encouraging them to follow through with a plan to form a national unity government regardless of the outcome of the audit of ballots from the June 14 presidential runoff, the White House said.

The president commended Abdullah Abdullah and Ashraf Ghani “for putting the interests of Afghanistan first and committing to working together as partners in governance”, the administration said in a statement Friday.
