2 Groups clashed over a trival issue in Barkas, six persons injured

Six persons were injured when two groups clashed over a trival issue at Chandrayangutta on Saturday evening. The condition of one of the injured identified as Abdullah Sadi, MPTC member is stated to be critical, doctors told the police.

The clash began over an argument between Abdullah Sadi and a realtor Abdullah Jilani with associates of the both the persons attacking each other with sticks, stones and knifes.

The Chandrayangutta police received complaint from groups and sent the injured to hospitals for treatment and began investigations.

Dowry Harassment drives woman to suicide in Basheerabad

A 46-year-old woman died of burn injuries which she suffered after setting herself ablaze at her residence in Basheerabad of Ranga Reddy District.

According to Basheerabad police, the deceased Sabeel Unissa Begum (46) an Housewife W/o Imtiyaz, she had allegedly setting her ablaze at her residence on July 24, immediately she was rushed to Gandhi Hospital for treatment where she died on Friday late night hours.

PM hosts dinner for outgoing army chief

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday hosted a farewell dinner in honour of the outgoing army chief, Gen. Bikram Singh.

The dinner, hosted at the prime minister’s 7, Race Course Road residence, was attended by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister Arun Jaitley, Minister of State for Defence Rao Inderjeet Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and others, an official statement said.

Lt. Gen. Dalbir Singh Suhag will take over as the next army chief Aug 1.

Himachal allows allotment of ‘nautor’ land

The Himachal Pradesh government has agreed to allotment of “nautor land” to those settled in tribal areas, a legislator said Saturday.

The allotment has been opened after a period of 16 years.

“Nautor Land” means the right to utilize, with the sanction of authorities, wasteland owned by the government outside towns, reserved and demarcated protected forests and such areas as may be notified by the state government.

Official sources said the decision would benefit thousands of people settled in Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur districts and parts of Chamba district.

Mulayam nephew to contest LS by-poll from Mainpuri

The Samajwadi Party Saturday named Mulayam Singh Yadav’s nephew Tejas Singh Yadav as its candidate for the forthcoming Lok Sabha bypolls in Mainpuri, the constituency vacated by his uncle and party chief.

Tejas, the son of Mulayam Singh’s brother, has been active in the area for some time now.

There was speculation that the party would instead opt for Rajya Sabha member Ram Gopal Yadav to contest from the high profile constituency.

Many leaders had advocated that this was necessary to give “voice to the party” in the Lok Sabha, given its poor numbers in the house.

Warm Saturday, Sunday to see light rain

Delhi saw a warm Saturday with the maximum temperature being recorded three notches above the season’s average at 37.5 degrees Celsius. The met department has forecast light rain Sunday.

“The sky will be cloudy on Sunday and very light rain is expected,” said an Indian Meteorological Department official.

The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 36 and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The minimum temperature Saturday was a notch above average at 27.6 degrees Celsius while humidity levels wavered between a high of 81 percent and a low of 51 percent.

China to boost infrastructure in Tibet

China has vowed to upgrade the transport infrastructure in Tibet and expand the existing network of rail, road and air routes within the next six years.

China’s ministry of transport (MOT), in a guideline, said the country aims to expand highways in the Tibet Autonomous Region to 110,000 kms by 2020, Xinhua reported Saturday.

A primary railway network of up to 1,300 km till 2020 has also been set as a target by the government.

The country would also build more airports in Tibet, also known as the ‘roof of the world’.

While sending Eid greetings to Muslims this year, Taliban leader Omar Abdullah has reportedly said that Taliban does not want to interfere with the internal affairs of other countries.

Urging fighters to protect Afghanistan’s borders in a statement released on Friday, Abdullah assured the neighboring countries and the world that Taliban only aims to build an independent Islamic regime in Afghanistan and does not intend to harm any other nation, The Express Tribune reported.

Gaza toll rises to over 1000

The toll in the 19-day Israeli offensive has climbed to 1,030, with the bodies of at least 130 more Palestinians being recovered from rubble across the Gaza Strip, officials said Saturday.

Ashraf al-Qedra, spokesman of the health ministry in Gaza, told reporters that rescue teams, medical crews and paramedics pulled out the corpses from the rubble during a ceasefire on humanitarian grounds in Gaza Saturday, Xinhua reported.

US lawmaker asks Indian-origin officials about ‘your country’

A freshman US lawmaker committed an embarrassing faux pas when during a Congressional hearing he mistook two top Indian-origin American officials as representing the Indian government, quizzing them about “your country” and “your government”.

Congressman Curt Clawson, who has now apologised for the gaffe, was giving his maiden speech during a Congressional hearing on India held by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific.

“I am familiar with your country. I love your country,” he said during the hearing.

Biocon reports marginal revenue for first quarter of fiscal 2014-15

Biotechnology major Biocon Ltd has reported revenue of nearly 3.5 percent and a net profit of only 10 percent for the fiscal 2014-2015. Chairperson of Biocon Ltd, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, while addressing a news conference on Friday in Bangalore, said the biopharma sales were slow this quarter as compared to the previous quarters. “Consolidated revenues for the quarter stood at 742 crore rupees. Biopharma sales were relatively flat at 547 crore rupees and within this segment, the core biopharma revenues was 436 crore rupees,” said Shaw.

Bengal Govt. takes preventive measures to tackle encephalitis

The West Bengal Government has taken preventive measures after three people died due to Japanese encephalitis in the state. Three deaths were reported from North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) in Siliguri district. The disease, which is spreading slowly across other provinces, has claimed more than 50 lives in West Bengal. However, NBMCH said the situation was under control. “The latest situation is that the problem is under control now, with less number of patients coming. Panel on Andhra capital to submit its report next month

The expert committee constituted by the central government to study various alternatives regarding the new capital for Andhra Pradesh, plans to submit its report by the middle of August.

Former urban development secretary K. C. Sivaramakrishnan, who is heading the five-member panel, Saturday said though they have time till September, they hope to submit the report by the middle of next month.
