Home ministry denies reported bugging at Gadkari’s home

The home ministry Monday denied the reported bugging at union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s residence, and ruled out any probe.

Asked about the bugging, union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said: “There is no contradiction, Gadkari has denied it himself.”

Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju too refused to comment.

“The minister himself has said the reports are speculative… How can we comment on it?” Rijiju said when he was asked if the home ministry would probe the bugging reports.

Lull in Gaza fighting as US, UN call for durable ceasefire

A relative calm prevailed in Gaza today after Israel reduced its assaults in the coastal strip and rocket fire from Hamas also declined considerably even as both the US and the UN called for a durable ceasefire to end the deadly 20-day conflict.

The UN Security Council late last night called for an “immediate and unconditional humanitarian ceasefire” between Israel and Palestine, asking the parties to implement the truce beyond the Muslim holiday of Eid and allow delivery of urgently needed assistance in Gaza with the raging conflict having killed 1,030 Palestinians and 46 Israelis.

Called Thunder – a library of tools developed at the Maryland-based nonprofit Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Janelia Research Campus – it speeds the analysis of data sets that are so large and complex they would take days or weeks to analyze on a single workstation, if a single workstation could do it at all.

Sena dubs assault on Marathis in K’taka as ‘Kannada terrorism’

The Shiv Sena today termed the “assault” on Marathi-speaking populace in Karnataka by the police there as “Kannada terrorism” and asked the Narendra Modi government to intervene.

New genetic risk factors for Parkinson’s discovered

In what could lead to new treatment for Parkinson’s disease, scientists have identified 24 genetic risk factors involved in the disease, including six that had not been previously identified.

The more variants a person has, the greater the risk, up to three times higher, for developing the disorder in some cases, the study suggested.

Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju Monday denied any probe into the reported bugging at union minister Nitin Gadkari’s residence.

“The minister himself has said the reports are speculative… How can we comment on it,” Rijiju said when he was asked if the home ministry would probe the bugging reports.

“There is nothing concrete in it,” the minister said. Media reports Sunday said bugging devices were found at Gadkari’s Delhi residence. This was however denied by Gadkari and those close to him.

Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s experience of working in India was very good and he credits his “Khoobsurat” co-star Sonam Kapoor for it.

“She is a great person and I enjoyed working with her. The environment on the sets was very homely and I didn’t face any problem at any stage,” Fawad said here Sunday on the sets of “Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega”.

“I didn’t face any problem in communicating with the people on the sets and a lot of credit goes to her (Sonam) for that,” he added.

Bharti Airtel has crossed 300 million customers mark across its operations globally, the company said in a statement here Monday.

“Today, telecom is at the cusp of transformation, which, going forward, will be driven as much by the force of technology as by the changing demographics in emerging markets across Asia and Africa,” said Gopal Vittal, managing director and chief executive officer (India and South Asia), Bharti Airtel.

“Accelerated data consumption by the youth is going to be the underlying story,” Vittal said.

Iran threatens U.S. to use explosive laden donkeys

Iran warned the U.S. that they would use donkeys to deliver nuclear bombs amid claims that the U.S is ready to allow Tehran to get hold of nuclear technology.

However, the U.S. demands Iran’s support in return for defeating the ISIS terror group.

The deployment of donkeys came out in a House of Commons foreign Affairs Committee reports.

According to the Daily Star, there were reports that if Iran managed to make nuclear weapons, it would not require missiles to deliver them.

9/11 attacks: Above 25,000 rescuers diagnosed with cancer

More than 25,000 9/11 terrorist attack rescuers have been diagnosed with cancer, reveal reports.

The figures have doubled since the last year as new cases are coming to the fore.

There had been 1,140 cases until last year, reports the Daily Mirror.

According to the World Trade Centre Health program, 1,655 had been diagnosed with cancer out of 37,000 police, rescuers and volunteers at New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital.

Many of these people are looking out for compensation to fight their illness.

An Indian humanist is among the pre-finalists of a humanitarian award worth $1 million to be handed over by Gonzaga University of northwestern United States in October.

The award is given on behalf of The Opus Prize Foundation that recognises faith-based humanitarian work.

The Opus Prize Foundation partners with Catholic universities to recognise people and organisations doing “very difficult work in very difficult places,” said Michael Herzog, an English professor of Gonzaga.

A 65-year-old woman passenger was allegedly strip searched by two women ticket checkers after she erroneously entered the first class compartment of a suburban local while carrying a second class ticket, following which the TCs have been suspended.

After a preliminary investigation, the two women TCs have been suspended, according to Western Railway Divisional Railway Manager Shailendra Kumar.

The woman had boarded a suburban local from Andheri station on July 25 and had mistakenly entered the first class compartment, with a second class ticket, according to her family members.

Letter to Mumbai Police Threatens ‘Revenge’ for Gaza Attacks

Mumbai has been put on high alert after the police received a letter purportedly threatening a terror attack in the city to “take revenge for Gaza” attacks.

The one-page letter, addressed to Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria, was received by the Control Room on July 25 (Friday) through post.

“We will take revenge for Gaza. In 1993, you (Maria) got a chance. This time you won’t. Stop us if you can,” Mr Maria said, quoting the letter which he says is signed as “Mujahideen”.
