Rakitic bids emotional farewell to Sevilla

Croatian footballer Ivan Rakitic has said he is not joining FC Barcelona to replace Cesc Fabregas or Xavi.

“I’m going to be Ivan Rakitic, do the best possible and always be true to myself. I’m not going there to replace anybody,” the Croatian said on leaving Sevilla, reports EFE.

“I never thought it would be this painful to talk. I had something prepared but I’d prefer to say what comes straight from my heart,” Rakitic struggled say as he tried to stop his tears while reading his statement at the time of bidding farewell to Sevilla’s fans Monday.

Man sent to jail for phone calls fraud

A court Tuesday sentenced a person to four years’ rigorous imprisonment for converting incoming international calls into local ones, said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

In a statement issued here, the CBI said S. Murali and two others — all directors of Tele Data Networking Service — were charged with criminal conspiracy to cheat the central government of revenue by switching international incoming calls to local ones.

NSA spied upon BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party was one of the six political parties across the world which a US court in 2010 authorised the National Security Agency to spy upon, a classified document has revealed.

The foreign political parties NSA had authority to spy upon were Lebanon’s Amal, Venezuela’s Bolivarian Continental Coordinator, Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood and National Salvation Front, and the Pakistan People’s Party, The Washington Post reported Monday.

The document was released by the former NSA contractor-turned whistleblower Edward Snowden.

Monsoon advances to Himachal

The south-west monsoon has advanced to Himachal Pradesh with many areas witnessing moderate to heavy rainfall since Monday, the Met office said here Tuesday.

“Heavy rainfall may occur at some places in low and mid hills of the state Wednesday,” the meteorological department said in a statement.

Bangana town in Una district got 88 mm rainfall till 8.30 a.m. Tuesday, the highest in the state, while Nadaun in Hamirpur district and Rajgarh in Sirmaur district recorded 78 mm and 74 mm rain, respectively.

Haryana’s contingency crop plan for weak monsoon

With a weak monsoon likely this year, the Haryana government Tuesday said it has prepared a comprehensive contingency crop plan to tide over the crisis.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the plan has been formulated in consultation with Haryana Agriculture University, Hisar and it has been forwarded to the field staff.

Under the plan, farmers have been advised to grow short-duration varieties of bajra, moong and urad, he said. Free mini-kits of bajra, moong and urad seeds will be distributed among the farmers.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao on Tuesday directed his cabinet colleagues and MLAs and MLCs to attend a scheduled meeting to elect Chairman for Telangana Council.

Bor sanctuary declared critical tiger reserve

Minister of State for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar Tuesday notified the Bor Sanctuary, New Bor Sanctuary and the New Bor Extended Wildlife Sanctuary in Maharashtra as a critical tiger reserve.

“Bor is the 47th tiger reserve in the country and the sixth tiger reserve of Maharashtra. With Project Tiger coverage, the reserve would receive funding and technical support which would strengthen tiger conservation, besides eco-development to benefit fringe people,” Javadekar’s office said.

France to partner India on climate change, proposes 1 bn euro credit line

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius Tuesday called for greater cooperation between France and India to tackle climate change and offered a proposed credit line of 1 billion Euro to enable sutainable urban development.

“In order to boost our cooperation, I am happy to announce that France has decided to propose a credit line of up to 1 billion Euros over the next three years for sustainable infrastructure and urban development in India through the French Development Agency,” he said.

Brazil’s communications director banned for one game

Brazilian football association communications director Rodrigo Paiva was banned for one game after punching Chilean striker Mauricio Pinilla during halftime of the World Cup Round of 16 match between the two sides Saturday.

FIFA said a number of players engaged in a discussion after the first half leading to Paiva punching Pinilla in the players’ tunnel, reports EFE.

FIFA is still investigating the incident and more sanctions could be imposed later. Brazil won 3-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular and extra time.

Civil aviation ministry to look into passenger comfort

The civil aviation ministry Tuesday said it will take major initiatives aimed at providing comfort to air passengers.

The ministry said it has identified passenger-centric issues and will take them up on a priority basis.

“These (issues) are meant to give better comfort level to the passengers and make the system more responsive to the needs of the citizens,” the ministry said in a statement.

According to the statement, the initiatives include security help desks being operationalised at all airports of the country.

New Zealand defeat Windies by 53 runs to clinch 2-1 Test series victory

New Zealand defeated West Indies in the third Test in Barbados to clinch a 2-1 series victory.

West Indies lost the third and final Test of the series by 53 runs.

According to the BBC, New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum declared on their overnight 331-7 to set West Indies a target of 308 runs to win.

US authorised NSA to spy on India, Pak among 193 countries

Reports have surfaced that the US had authorized National Security Agency (NSA) to spy on foreign-based political organizations including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from India and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) from Pakistan.

According to the Express tribune, a classified document revealed that US spy agency NSA had been sanctioned to spy on most countries and some international bodies and political parties under the FISA court certification.

French FM Fabius promises to process visas within 48 hrs for Indians

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius has promised to ensure the processing of visa applications for Indian nationals within 48 hours from January 2015.

Addressing this year’s French Scholarship Award Ceremony and Pre-Departure Session held at the Embassy of France, Fabius revealed that this move of the French Government is aimed at strengthening tourism and to facilitate human exchanges between the two countries.
