KCR giving Telangana tap in State policies

Telangana CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao has asked the CMO officials to replace “Andhra” touches in all works and policies with “Telangana”.

A marathon meeting was also held on Tuesday were Mr Rao with Metro Rail officials on the realignments he had suggested near the Assembly, Moazam Jahi Market and other places and asked them to accelerate works.

“All programmes and policies in the past were looked at from an Andhra angle. This has to change. Now all programmes and policies should be viewed with Telangana’s needs in mind,” the Chief Minister reportedly said.

Vegetable prices to touch a new high

The prices of vegetables, particularly coriander leaves and tomato, have go through the ceiling in the past few days, officials in the horticulture department have foretold that prices of all vegetables will shoot up in the coming days, if the State does not receive enough rainfall.

Insufficient rainfall coupled with low crop yield will result in unpredictable prices, horticulture and Hopcoms officials said.

Nayandhalli flyover claim 25 houses

On Tuesday, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) demolished 25 houses near Nayandahalli junction, paving way for completion of a flyover on Mysore Road between Gali Anjaneya Temple and Kengeri.

The demolition carried out by four earthmovers which was supervised BDA officials. The local police had escorted them to put a stop to any untoward incident.

But the drive went on peacefully. A top BDA official said work on the flyover would begin immediately.

Tharoor seeks early end to Sunanda death probe

Former union minister Shashi Tharoor Wednesday requested the authorities to conduct a “thorough investigation” into the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar and to conclude the inquiry “rapidly and transparently”.

Tharoor’s statement came as the central government Wednesday sought a detailed report from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on the allegation by a forensic doctor that he was pressurised to manipulate the report of Pushkar’s autopsy.

OIC condemns church attacks in Nigeria

Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Ameen Madani has condemned the killing of at least 56 people and the destruction of churches in Nigeria.

Madani’s statement came following recent attacks on at least four villages near Chibok in north eastern Nigeria by people suspected to be members of the extremist group Boko Haram.

The secretary-general, in a statement Monday, expressed his sadness over the continuing acts of violence by the terrorist group, and conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims.

Building collapse: NHRC notice to Tamil Nadu

The NHRC has issued notice to Tamil Nadu asking for a report on the June 28 Chennai building collapse in which 30 people were killed, a statement said Wednesday.

Taking suo motu cognisance of a media report, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued notice to the state chief secretary and sought the report within two weeks.

Citing media reports, the commission said the Tamil Nadu chief minister had said the building collapsed due to constructional defects and the builder had violated various norms.

Israel demolishes house of terrorist as deterrence

Israel Wednesday destroyed the house of the family of Ziad Awad, who was charged by a military court with committing the murder of an off-duty Israeli policeman, the Israeli army said.

The Israeli Defence Forces spokesperson’s unit said that the demolition was aimed to serve as a deterrent, Xinhua reported.

“The destruction of the homes of terrorists is a message of deterrence to terrorists and their collaborators,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

“There is a price they will pay if they choose to continue with terrorist activities and harming innocent civilians,” it added.

Over 1,100 crossings still unmanned in East Central Railway

At a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi plans to run “bullet trains”, more than 1,100 railway crossings in the East Central Railway (ECR) are still unmanned, officials said Wednesday.

Thousands of people and hundreds of vehicles cross unmanned level crossings every day in violation of the Motor Vehicles Act (section 131) and risk their lives.

“There are 1,127 unmanned railway crossings in the five divisions of the ECR in Bihar and Jharkhand. This is a matter of serious concern for us,” Madhuresh Kumar, general manager of ECR headquartered in Hajipur near Patna, said.

United AP top women crime list

CBI court adjourns hearing in Shah’s discharge application

The special CBI court today adjourned the hearing in the discharge application of BJP leader Amit Shah, in connection with the alleged fake encounter cases of Shorabbuddin Sheikh and Tulsiram Prajapati, till July 14.

The new judge B H Loya, before whom the case came up for hearing today, adjourned the case.

Meanwhile, Shah is likely to appear before the court on July 4 for the regular hearing.

It can be noted that the previous judge J T Utpat was transferred to Pune on June 25.
