Vidya Balan has revealed that she did ‘jasoosi’ in her school and college days.

While promoting her upcoming movie ‘Bobby Jasoos’ in Gurgaon, she said, “I did lot of ‘jasoosi’ in my school and college days. If my friend used to like someone or I had a crush on someone, so we used to help each other in taking out the information of that person”.

‘Bobby Jasoos’ also stars Ali Fazal and is produced by Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha. (ANI)

Residents of Malleswaram blast yet to receive compensation

Almost 15 months back, on April 17, 2013, a bomb exploded near BJP’s Karnataka headquarters in Malleswaram but residents whose properties were damaged in the incident still await the compensation promised by the government.

G Narayana Reddy, in front of whose house the bomb was planted, said all but lost hope of getting the compensation after running from pillar to post.

He had to spend Rs 12 lakh on the repairs. “We suffered huge losses. The then chief minister, Jagadish Shettar, assured us compensation. But not a single rupee has been paid till date,” he told Deccan Herald.

Following her Australian Open Super Series triumph, ace India shuttler Saina Nehwal today moved up a place to be in seventh position in the latest world rankings while P V Sindhu dropped out of the top 10 after a none-too-impressive outing in the same tournament.

While India’s Olympic bronze medallist shuttler Saina triumphed, compatriot Sindhu had to bite the dust as her campaign came to an end in the quarter-finals of Australian Open Super Series. Her poor performance pushed Sindhu a place back to 11th spot.

Kuwait police fire teargas to break up opposition demo

Kuwaiti police fired teargas and stun grenades to disperse an opposition rally demanding the release of prominent dissident Mussallam al-Barrak, activists said today.

The public prosecutor yesterday ordered Barrak, a former MP, to be held for 10 days after he was questioned for allegedly insulting the judiciary.

Thousands of people gathered at Barrak’s residence southwest of Kuwait City last night and marched on the nearby jail where the former opposition leader was detained, the activists said.

In a small study, people with artery problems in their legs walked a little longer and farther when they ate dark chocolate.

Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a narrowing of the peripheral arteries to the legs, stomach, arms, and head – most commonly in the arteries of the legs.

Reduced blood flow can cause pain, cramping or fatigue in the legs or hips while walking.

Foraging for lean-season diet such as ants, slugs and bugs may have spurred the development of bigger brains and higher-level cognitive functions in early humans and other primates, a new study suggests.

“Challenges associated with finding food have long been recognised as important in shaping evolution of the brain and cognition in primates, including humans,” said study lead author, Amanda D Melin from Washington University in St Louis.

Inzamam backs PCB decision to retain Misbah as captain for WC

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has backed the retention of senior batsman, Misbah-ul-Haq as captain until the World Cup 2015 in Australia and New Zealand.

Inzamam, who played 120 Tests and 378 ODIs, said that the combination of Misbah and new head coach, Waqar Younis would work well for the national side.

“The PCB has done the right thing by bringing back Waqar and also making it clear that Misbah will be captain for the next World Cup. These are steps in the right direction,” Inzamam who himself captained the country from 2003 to 2007 said.

Women’s rights activists have demanded the arrest of Shiv Sena MLA Prakash Bala Sawant for allegedly threatening to strip and thrash an elderly woman.

Lawyer and activist Abha Singh told ANI, “Shiv Sena MLA Prakash BALA Sawant has abused a woman and used derogatory words, which is an offence under section 509 of the Indian Penal Code. What is required is a preventive action, apart from lodging an FIR and arresting Sawant.”

Bodies of three youths with bullet injuries found in Bihar

Bodies of three youths having bullet injuries were found Wednesday at a village in Patna district.

People of Ramnagar Diara village in the district noticed the dead bodies and alerted the nearby police post. All the youths seem to be in the age group of 20 to 30 years, police said.

“Seeing the place of occurrence it seems the youths were killed somewhere else and their bodies were thrown at Ramnagar Diara village,” said Traffic SP Rajeev Mishra, who is currently holding the additional charge of Patna Rural SP.

Days after a minister in Manohar Parrikar-led government set off a controversy by denouncing “pub culture”, a BJP MLA has invoked mythology saying “pub and liquor are very much part of Indian culture” and opposed any move to ban them in the name of culture and religion.

Minor girl attacked by jilted lover in school

A 23-year-old youth was arrested for allegedly attacking a minor girl student at her school at Golkund in the district, police said on Thursday.

The 15-year-old victim was stabbed by the accused identified as Deepak, purportedly her jilted lover, in the school premises during lunch break on Monday last.

The seriously injured girl sustaining multiple wounds was rushed to a local government hospital and later shifted to district headquarters hospital.

Anti-dowry law misused, no automatic arrest: SC

Expressing concern over misuse of anti-dowry law by “disgruntled” wives against her husband and in-laws, the Supreme Court today ruled that police cannot arrest accused in such cases “automatically” and it must give reasons for taking such steps which would be judicially examined.

The apex court said the attitude to arrest first and then proceed with the rest is “despicable” which must be curbed and directed all state governments to ensure that police do not resort to arresting in all offences punishable up to seven- year jail term including dowry harassment cases.

AIIMS forensic head sticks to stand on Sunanda post mortem

The head of the AIIMS’ forensic department today stuck to his controversial claim that pressure was brought on him to manipulate the post mortem report on Shashi Tharoor’s wife Sunanda Pushkar.

A day after the premier health insitute denied his claim, Dr Sudhir Gupta said, “I stand by what I said”.

“How do they know there is no pressure on me? Who were they to clarify that there is no pressure on me? What was the hurry to call a press conference?,” he said.

Palestinians prepare to bury teenager killed in Jerusalem

Palestinians are preparing for the funeral of a teenager abducted and murdered in Jerusalem, media reported Thursday.

The killing of 17-year-old Palestine national Mohammed Abu Khdair Wednesday sparked fierce clashes amid claims it was in revenge for the killing of three Israeli youths, BBC reported.

The killing was condemned by both Israeli and Palestinian leaders.

Meanwhile Palestinian militants in Gaza fired several rockets at Israel. Israel responded with a series of air strikes on the territory early Thursday.

Militants fired 20 mortars and rockets, Israeli officials said.

With over 100 million users and 900,000 small and medium businesses on board in India, the world’s largest social networking site Facebook is in the process of monetising its business in India, Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg said on Wednesday.

India has the second-largest user base for Facebook, after the US.

“We have invested heavily in India. India is one of the big bets for us. We are in the process of monetising here,” she told reporters. Sandberg did not disclose details.
