In a new exercise, Cyberabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand, conducted a crime meeting on July 2 and 3, in an innovative manner. Doing away with the old method of the CP and other senior officers addressing the concerned SHOs and ACPs, in this exercise called COMSTAT (Computer Statistics) in NewYork and other police forces, the concerned Zonal DCP along with his ACPs, Crime Inspectors, SIs and CCS Staff got onto the stage and gave a report of the crime situation in their respective Zones, divisions and Police Station area.

TDP leader, actor and Hindupuram MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna on Thursday expressed happiness over his party capturing Hindupuram Municipality after 27 years.

Ten passengers traveling in a private tourist bus were grievously injured when it fell and overturned into a ditch on the outskirts of Budera on NH 65 under Munipally mandal of Medak district.
The ill-fated bus belonging to Neeta Travels was coming to Hyderabad from Mumbai and fell into the ditch at 9 am. The injured persons were immediately shifted to the Government General Hospital at Sadashivpet.

Flames erupted suddenly in a hotel kitchen at Regimental Bazaar in Secunderabad on Thursday morning. However, a big mishap was averted due to the alert employees of the hotel.

According to the residents of the area, suddenly flames erupted in the kitchen of Bawarchi hotel located near the Hyderabad Passport Office in Secunderabad when the cook lighted the stove. However the kitchenware was gutted in the fire.

Commuters faced a difficult time Thursday as a metro station here was closed for over two hours due to a protest.

“Delhi police had advised us to stop the entry of commuters at Jor Bagh station from 7 p.m. onwards. However, passenger exit was allowed,” a metro official said. The entry was reopened at 9.30 p.m.

Over 400 people protested near a disputed land in the Lodhi Colony area in south Delhi, demanding the ownership of the land.

A US court will hear in September the case of an Indian-American woman who has been accused of neglect in the death of her newborn a year ago, a media report said.

Purvi Patel, 32, has been charged with Class A felony in connection with the death of her seven-month-old infant, who was found dead in a dumpster in Mishawaka in the US state of Indiana in July last year, South Bend Tribune reported Thursday.

Patel appeared before St. Joseph Superior Court Judge Wednesday for a motion for continuance.

The director of a private hospital in Vishakhapatnam, arrested in an alleged kidney sale case, was brought here and sent to jail for two weeks by a local court today.

The Vizag-based hospital director 58-year-old N Prabhakar Babu was brought here last evening on transit remand and produced before a lower court where his bail application was rejected and he was remanded to 14 days judicial custody.

Babu was arrested by a team of Cuttack police on June 17 from his hospital complex for alleged illegal kidney sale case involving a Cuttack woman, police sources said.

China’s prosecuting authorities investigated 26,523 people suspected of duty-related crimes in the first five months of this year, including seven officials at the ministerial level.

The persons subjected to inquiry include 1,577 officials at or above county levels, Xinhua quoted Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP) as saying Thursday.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Head of the Forensic Department, Dr.Sudhir Gupta, said on Thursday that the post-mortem conducted by him on Sunanda Pushkar’s body, was based on principles of medicine and ethics applicable to the law.
Dr. Gupta told media that the post-mortem report of Sunanda Pushkar was authentic.

“In this case, any of the post-mortem report, which has been prepared by me is totally based on principle and practice of medicine as per the ethics applicable to the law,” said Dr. Gupta.

Country’s largest lender SBI today raised concerns over the proposed farm loan waivers by Andhra Pradesh and Telengana chief ministers, saying it may mount the already high stress on its agriculture portfolio in the first quarter.

“Stress in our agri portfolio in Q1 will not be so much because of the monsoon deficit as that does not translate into stress so quickly, but definitely on account of the proposed debt waiver (in Andhra and Telengana) yes,” SBI Chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya told reporters here late this evening after the bank’s 59th annual general meeting.

A meeting may take place between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Angela Merkel during his halt in Germany on way to Brazil for the BRICS summit this month.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said that it was normal to have a transit halt during a trans-Atlantic journey and in previous instances also these transit halts have been in Germany.

The government is in the process of deciding names to fill vacancies of governors and the appointments will be made “very soon”, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said Thursday.

“The appointments will be made very soon,” he told reporters here in response to queries about the vacancies in various Raj Bhavans across India.

Governors of some states, who had been appointed during the United Progressive Alliance government, have resigned after a nudge from the National Democratic Alliance government. Among those who have resigned were governors of Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh.

The Delhi High Court Thursday extended, by four days, the parole granted to Delhi Police officer S.S. Rathi, serving a life term for killing two businessmen after mistaking them to be gangsters.

Justice Mukta Gupta extended the parole of Rathi after the court was informed that one of his family members had passed away.

Rathi was earlier granted parole in June to appear in examinations. He has been pursuing post-graduation (distance learning) course in forensic science from the Gobal Open University, Nagaland.

Self-styled godman Asaram Bapu’s bail plea has been rejected by the Supreme Court in connection with a rape case filed against him in Gujarat. Asaram Bapu’s lawyer Saurabh Ajay Gupta today said, “Today Asaram’s case was presented before the SC. The court has adjourned the matter for August 19.
