Clashes escalate in East Jerusalem, many injured

Arab-dominated East Jerusalem witnessed largest clashes in years with nearly a dozen people injured Thursday as Palestinians clashed with the Israeli police Thursday over the murder of a teenager.

The clashes ensued after the mutilated body of Mohammed Abu Khdair, a 17-year-old from the city’s Shuafat neighbourhood abducted Wednesday morning, was found dumped in a forest outside the city, Al Jazeera reported.

Goa leader of opposition, son booked for graft

In a late development, Goa’s Leader of Opposition Pratapsing Rane and his legislator son Vishwajeet were Thursday booked by police for allegedly accepting crores of rupees to facilitate permissions for an iron ore mining lease.

The FIR was filed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) which is probing a Rs.35,000 crore illegal mining scam in which top politicians, bureaucrats and mining magnates are involved.

SC seeks SEBI’s response on Sahara’s plea to sell overseas hotels

The Supreme Court Thursday asked market regulator SEBI to respond to Sahara group’s plead to permit it to sell its three overseas hotels to mobilise Rs.10,000 crore as a part repayment of investors money raised by its two companies – a condition for the release of jailed group chief Subrata Roy and two directors.

Slight decrease in DU second cut-off

The second cut-off list for admissions to Delhi University undergraduate programme was released Thursday, with only a slight decrease in percentages and some colleges even declaring admissions closed.

Besides honours course in geography, Kirori Mal College closed admissions for all other courses. The cut-off for geography only seen a decrease of 0.75 percent.

In Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), admissions are only open for B.Com honours and there has been a decrease of 0.25 percent in its cut-off. The admission for economics honours and other course offered at SRCC were closed.

Rs.10 per family donation provides medicare to the poor in Bihar

Here’s a unique initiative to ensure that the poorest of the poor get the best possible medicare without depending on the government. Some 400,000 households in a Bihar district have been urged to donate Rs.10 each to ensure that the poor get financial help in case of a medical emergency.

The initiative could yield at least Rs.20 lakh at a conservative estimate, an official said.

Launched by the administration of Kaimur district and the Red Cross, the response so far has been tremendous, with thousands contributing in the past few days.

Rs 1 lakh cr funds for road sector in a year : Gadkari

The Narendra Modi-led government will initiate measures to turn-around the Highways sector in 2 years time by garnering funds to the tune of Rs one lakh crore in a year, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said here today.

“I will prepare a blue print for road sector reforms in a month. I will arrange funds to the tune of Rs one lakh crore in a year… The results will be out in two years,” Gadkari said at a conclave on Budget Aaj Tak today.

31 ACs were installed at Dikshit’s official residence as CM

As many as 31 air conditioners and 25 heaters were among a number of electrical appliances installed in the official bungalow of Sheila Dikshit in Delhi when she was Chief Minister.

An official response to an RTI query said Dikshit’s residence on 3-Motilal Nehru Marg, which has now been allotted to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, had at least 31 air conditioners, 15 desert coolers, 25 heaters, 16 air purifiers, 12 geysers among others.

93 more pilgrims selected for Haj 2014

AP State Haj Committee Special Officer Prof S A Shukoor has announced that 93 Haj pilgrims under Waiting List have been provisionally selected against cancellation for Haj 2014.

Earlier, 200 Haj Pilgrims under Waiting were selected for the Haj 2014. He requested the selected pilgrims to pay their full Haj amount per head as per their category of accommodation within ten days in the Account of Haj Committee of India in the SBI through Core Banking. The pilgrims should obtain their Bank reference Numbers before making the payment, as the number has to be quoted on the Bank Challan.

Indian nurses being moved to Mosul, being treated well

Sunni insurgents Thursday forced all 46 Indian women nurses to move out of a hospital in Iraq where they had been holed up, injuring three of them, and were taking them to Mosul city, officials said. The nurses were being treated well.

According to a source close to Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, a Indian male nurse in Iraq was keeping the chief minister informed of all developments concerning the women, all of whom hail from Kerala, since he was in contact with them.

Will seek Rs 600 crore from centre for land survey: Ali

The TRS Government will seek Rs 600 crore from the Centre for conducting a comprehensive land survey in the State, Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali has said.
Speaking to mediapersons at the Secretariat here on Thursday, Mahmood Ali said he had directed the officials concerned to submit a derailed report on the assigned lands and other lands available in 10 Telangana districts. Krishna water was used for drinking only: Uma

AP Minister Devineni Umamaheshwara Rao today said there was no need to make drinking water an issue.
Speaking to mediapersons on Thursday, Devineni said the Telangana government has decided to take the issue of release of another 3.4 tmcft of water from Nagarjunasagar project to Krishna delta for drinking water needs to the CWC.
The minister said the water was released on the direction of Krishna River Board and it was being used for drinking water purpose only. He also refuted the allegations that the water was being used for irrigation in Krishna Delta. (NSS)
