Govt. pays spl. attention towards illegal occupation of Waqf properties

Telangana government has sought details from revenue officials regarding encroachment of Waqf properties and lands. Thus TRS government has begun preparing to act in connection with the removal of illegal occupation.

Highly placed sources told that government is focussing on government and Waqf lands in the city and outskirts. Earlier governments had given thousands of acres of land to various multi national companies and private institutions in those areas.

93 more Hajj aspirants selected from waiting list

Special Officer Andhra Pradesh State Hajj Committee Prof. S A Shukoor has announced that 93 more intending Hajj pilgrims have been selected from the state for Hajj 2014. CRPF jawan commits suicide in Shopian district

A CRPF jawan allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself inside his camp in Shopian district of Kashmir, police said on friday.

Constable Surender Kumar of 14 Battalion of CRPF shot himself with his service rifle last night inside the camp at Imam Sahib in Shopian town, the police said.

Police is trying to ascertain why the CRPF jawan took such an extreme step.

Former tennis great John McEnroe has said there is a possibility that 2013 Wimbledon champion Andy Murray could reunite with former coach Ivan Lendl following his exit from this year’s championship.

Murray lost in straight sets to Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov on Wednesday.

Under the guidance of Lendl, one of McEnroe’s fiercest rivals in the 1980s, Murray became a two-time Grand Slam champion, winning the 2012 U.S. Open and Wimbledon.

But with Lendl having taken Murray from contender to winner, the pair parted company in March, reports the BBC.

Navratilova questions Williams’ sudden withdrawal from Wimbledon

Martina Navratilova, the nine-time Wimbledon champion questioned Serena Williams’ sudden move to withdraw from the female doubles tournament.

Serena William claimed that she had been ill because of a serious virus infection, News.com.au reported.

Navratilova said in a statement that she hoped Williams would be okay but she also refused to believe that the World No. 1 had been seriously ill. She added that Williams should have withdrawn before the match had started.

Navratilova was amazed that people had not stopped Williams from getting on to the court while she had been sick.

‘Double amputee’ Pistorius has been greatly affected by his disability

A sports doctor told Paralympic runner Oscar Pistorius’ murder trial that the double amputee has been greatly affected by his disability.

Defence witness Wayne Derman told the court that Pistorius suffered significant stress and anxiety.

According to the BBC, Pistorius claims that he shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day last year after mistaking her for an intruder in their house.

The prosecution argues that the athlete killed her deliberately after a row.

CRPF officer killed in anti-Naxal operation

A CRPF officer was today killed during an anti-Naxal operation in Jharkhand’s Giridih district.

The incident happened early today when a joint squad of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and state police was out for an operation in Lakheri area of Giridih district.

Officials said a heavy exchange of fire took place between the two sides and CRPF’s second-in-command H K Jha was seriously injured in the encounter.

“The officer later succumbed to his injuries.No other injuries have been inflicted on the forces side,” a senior officer said.

Prime Minister Modi flags off Katra-Udhampur train

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has flagged off the inaugural Katra-Udhampur train today on his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after assuming office.

The Prime Minister flagged off a Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) which will serve as special train to the Hindu holy shrine of Vaishno Devi.

Katra – Udhampur rail line is around 25 kilometers long and consists of the 9.4 kilometers long Udhampur – Chak Rakhwal and 15.5 kilometers long Chak Rakhwal- Mata Vaishno Devi Katra sections.

Three killed in mishap in Udhaiti

Three youths were killed and another injured when two motorcycles collided with each other in Udhaiti area here, police said today.

Dev Singh (26), Anekpal (28) and Motiram (20) were killed when their motorcycles collided with each other on Bisauli-Islamnagar road yesterday, Additional Superintendent of Police O P Yadav said.

The injured youth has been admitted to the district hospital.

Sensex gains 48 points; healthcare stocks surge

A benchmark index of Indian equities markets Friday gained 48 points or 0.19 percent in the early session as healthcare stocks surged.

Good buying was observed in healthcare, oil and gas and banking sectors, while selling pressure was seen in capital goods sector.

The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 25,844.80 points, was trading at 25,871.75 points (at 09.34 a.m.) in the early session, up 48 points or 0.19 percent from the previous day’s close at 25,823.75 points.

Iraq crisis: Indian nurses reach Mosul, unharmed

The 46 Indian nurses, who were forcibly moved by suspected ISIS militants from Tikrit, have reached the Iraqi city of Mosul and are unharmed, said a source on Friday.

The nurses were taken in buses from Tikrit to Mosul by a team of the Sunni insurgents on Thursday.

The nurses reached Mosul at around midnight India time.

“They are safe and have been kept in two rooms which has only one door,” a source close to the nurses told a news agency.

The nurses were provided food and water by their escorts.

Kerala nurses given food by ISIS militants in Iraq: Chandy

The 46 nurses from Kerala, who were shifted from Iraq’s Tikrit city to Mosul by Sunni insurgents, have been put up in a building and have been given food, said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Friday.

The women nurses reached Mosul close to midnight, said Chandy, who is in Delhi and closely monitoring the situation alongwith the External Affairs Ministry.

Chandy told a news agency over phone that the nurses have been given food and they have been put up in a building.

SC to hear AAP plea against imposition of President’s Rule

The Supreme Court will on Friday hear a petition filed by Aam Aadmi Party against imposition of President’s Rule in Delhi.

The hearing comes a day after former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal accompanied by AAP legislators met President Pranab Mukherjee to demand immediate dissolution of the Assembly and fresh elections in Delhi.

The apex court had on May 05 posted for July 04 the hearing on the petition after it was informed that Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung had decided to deal with the matter after the conclusion of Lok Sabha polls.

India pocket morale-boosting win ahead of Test series

Indian batsmen and bowlers warmed up with a morale-boosting five-wicket win against Derbyshire in their second three-day tour game here today, ahead of the first Test against England in Nottingham starting July 9.

Chasing 142 for a win after a sporting second innings declaration on Day 3 — 156 for three in 45 overs — by Derbyshire, India lost Shikhar Dhawan (9) early but cantered to their target in 36.3 overs.

800 bodies found in Balochistan in past three years

More than 800 bodies have been found in different parts of the troubled Balochistan province of southwestern Pakistan in the last three and half years, a media report said.

According to a report in ‘Dawn’ newspaper, the bodies were found mainly in Quetta, Khuzdar and Makran belt.

The report quoting sources in the Balochistan Home and Tribal Affairs Department said that 466 victims were identified as ethnic Baloch, 123 as Pashtuns, and 107 from other ethnicities and 107 bodies remained unidentified.

Diamond Jubilee celebrations: Air India to add another Dreamliner in Singapore route

Celebrating its 60th year of flying to Singapore, Air India is adding another Boeing 787 ‘Dreamliner’ aircraft on its Singapore-Chennai-Mumbai sector from next month.

“The Indian national carrier has seen a big increase in passengers on its latest aircraft from Singapore to India,” Country Manager Nirbhik Narang told PTI today.

“In June, we had more than 90 per cent passengers on our daily flights from Singapore to India,” said Narang, underlining the increase in travellers flying by Air India.
