Woman gang-raped in Badaun

A 25-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped and injured by three persons in Bisauli area here, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place on Thursday night when the woman was returning home after giving food to her husband at an orchard, they said.

When the woman resisted, the accused injured her with a knife, police said.

A case was lodged against Peer Baksh, Tinku and Haneef in this connection last night, they said.

Thousands gather in Jerusalem for Palestinian teenager’s funeral

Thousands of people gathered in East Jerusalem to attend the funeral of a Palestinian teenager, Mohammad Abu Khdair, who was murdered recently.

Khdair’s family said he was killed as a result of revenge in the murders of three Israelis in June. However, police have not been able to find the appropriate reason behind the murder.

According to the BBC, the boy was buried at a cemetery close to his house in the Shufat district.

There were clashes between the Palestinians and Israeli police before and after the funeral.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has ordered the deployment of the army in all major cities of Pakistan under Article 245 of the nation’s Constitution.

According to an Express News report, the army has been called in to assist civil institutions.

It was further stated that the decision was taken during a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Friday.

Article 245 states “650[(1)] 650 The Armed Forces shall, under the directions of the Federal Government, defend Pakistan against external aggression or threat of war, and, subject to law, act in aid of civil power when called upon to do so.

Apple hires Tag Heuer’s sales director for upcoming iWatch

Tech giant Apple has reportedly hired a top sales executive from Swiss luxury-watch maker Tag Heuer, as the iPhone maker purportedly gears up for an October launch of a smartwatch.

Head of watch brands at luxury-goods conglomerate LVMH, which counts Tag Heuer among its subsidiaries, Jean-Claude Biver informed that Apple has signed on Tag Heuer’s sales director.

Biver said that if it had been a direct competitor, he would have felt a bit betrayed, but if he ( sales director) goes to Apple then it would be a great experience for him, CNET reported.

After widespread criticism, Google has begun reinstating some links it had earlier removed under the controversial “right to be forgotten” ruling.

Articles posted online by the Guardian newspaper were removed earlier this week, but have now returned fully to the search engine.

Google has defended its actions, saying that it was a “difficult” process.

Peter Barron, head of communications for Google in Europe, was quoted by the BBC, as saying that it was a learning curve for the search engine giant.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Head of the Forensic Department, Dr.Sudhir Gupta told ANI here on Saturday that he will answer all the questions of the media in a lawful procedure.

“Whatever you want to ask, I’ll answer according to the government’s rules and the rights of a government servant. I am an impartial professional, neither towards the defence nor towards prosecution. My duty is to pursue the truth in the Sunanda Pushkar’s post mortem case,” said Gupta.

Yesterday, a PIL was filed in the Supreme Court demanding CBI probe in the case.

With lack of transport infrastructure hampering coal production, the new Government says it has brought on track one of the three critical rail links in Chhattisgarh and efforts are on to fast-track the other two in Jharkhand and Odisha.

“There is potential to add another 200 or 300 million tonnes if three critical rail links are expedited in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Odisha…Timelines have been drawn up and the Chhattisgarh rail link has come on track,” Coal and Power Minister Piyush Goyal told PTI in an interview here.

The Supreme Court on Friday reserved its order on interim bail plea of Sahara Chief Subrata Roy who pleaded to the court to show ‘raham'(mercy) and allow him to come out of jail to sell off his properties to deposit Rs 10,000 crore with SEBI as directed to get regular bail.

“Raham is what is required now in this case. On Friday he has spend more months behind bars and his release would enhance chances of negotiation for sale of properties,” senior advocate Rajiv Dhawan, appearing for Roy who has been in jail for over four months, submitted before a bench headed by Justice T S Thakur.

Explosion in Muslim brotherhood leader’s farm in Cairo: 4 dead

Four people were killed after a bomb went off on a poultry farm in Egypt’s Fayoum governorate, according to a security source.

A statement issued by the Fayoum Security Directorate after the bomb went off yesterday stated that the farm is owned by Ahmed Arafa, a regional Muslim Brotherhood leader in Fayoum, and was being used as a bomb-making factory. Bomb squad experts are now working on defusing another 40 bombs at the site of the explosion.

Karnataka seeks central help in mining more iron ore

Karnataka Friday sought the central government’s support in increasing its iron ore production to meet the needs of the steel plants in the state.

“I have urged the union ministry of mines to plead our case in the Supreme Court to raise the cap on production of iron ore to 40 million tonnes from 30 million tonnes per annum, a limit the apex court ordered last year,” Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told reporters after discussing the issue with union Mines and Steel Minister Narendra Singh Tomar here.

Crimes against women in six of the eight Northeastern states increased significantly in the last year compared to the year before as Assam led the list, although Manipur and Mizoram registered a downward trend.

At the all-India level, Assam remains in the seventh place, like in the previous year. The list is headed by Andhra Pradesh, followed by Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, the National Crime Records Bureau said in its Crime in India, 2013, report.

Special AI flight carrying Indian nurses lands in Mumbai

A special Air India flight carrying 46 Indian nurses set free by Sunni militants ISIS in strife-torn Iraq and 137 others arrived in Mumbai today.

The flight carrying 183 Indian nationals from Erbil landed in Mumbai at 8:43 AM.

The flight has made a ‘technical halt’ in Mumbai for refuelling and catering supplies.

The flight would leave for Kochi at 9:55 AM and reach the city at 11:55 AM, Air India officials said.

Moradabad tense again after incident of communal violence

Scores of people, including the district magistrate and a police circle officer, were injured in clashes between BJP workers and police at Moradabad district in Uttar Pradesh on Friday, after the mob was stopped from holding a mahapanchayat at Kaanth over a religious dispute.

Tension started building up in Moradabad last week when the administration removed a loudspeaker from a temple in Nayagaon village which comes under Kaanth tehsil.

UAE-based Indian businessman offers jobs to freed nurses

UAE-based Indian businessman BR Shetty has offered the 46 nurses freed by insurgents in Iraq jobs in hospitals he owns across the Gulf country, Nepal, Bhutan and India.

Shetty announced his offer in advertisements in Kerala newspapers.

He asked the nurses, who returned from Iraq Saturday, to contact his office if interested.

The nurses were taken by insurgents from Tikrit to Mosul and then set free in the Kurdish town of Erbil Friday. A plane carrying them landed in Mumbai Saturday.
