British ministers to visit India; meet Modi, Sushma

British ministers William Hague and George Osborne will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj when they visit India July 7 and 8.

Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs William Hague and Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne will jointly call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi July 8, a ministry of external affairs statement said Saturday.

The two ministers will hold delegation level talks with Swaraj at the Hyderabad House July 8.

Five Odisha workers stranded in Iraq

At least five workers from Odisha have been stranded in strife-torn Iraq, an official said Saturday.

All the labourers, mostly plumbers, are from Kendrapada district.

Basudev Tripathy, 25, Niranjan Tripathy, 31 and Rashmi Ranjan Tripathy, 24 of Maho village were reportedly staying in Nafaj province, district labour officer Bighnajit Mohapatra told IANS.

While location of two other workers Madan Mohan Mahalik, 28, of Nandini Nagar village and Santosh Mahalik, 45, of Sandhapali village could not be ascertained, Mohapatra said.

Nearly 600 Indian nationals to come back from Iraq by Monday

Nearly 600 Indian nationals will come back from conflict-hit Iraq over the next two days of whom 200 will return by an Iraqi Airways special chartered flight from Najaf to Delhi tonight, External Affairs Ministry said today.

“The return of Indians from Iraq has gathered pace,” the Spokesperson in External Affairs Minister said, adding apart from 200 Indian nationals, another 400 Indian nationals would be returning to various destinations in India, including Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad, through commercial flights by Monday.

We will form next govt in J&K on our own: BJP leader

BJP today said people of Jammu and Kashmir are looking up to it and the party will form the next government in the state on its own.

“We are ready for the elections. We are confident that we will form the next government here. People want a ‘Modi Sarkar’ (government) here too,” co-incharge of BJP’s state unit R P Singh told reporters here on the sidelines of a function held to induct new members into the party.

Singh said people of the state want a corruption-free government which can bring in a lot of development.

Actor couple Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, whose son Suraj is facing charges of abetting the suicide of actress Jiah Khan, have filed a Rs 100 crore defamation suit in the Bombay High Court against Rabia Khan, the mother of the deceased.

Two days back, the High Court, hearing Rabia’s plea, had transferred the probe from Mumbai police to CBI, asking the agency to find out whether it was a case of suicide or homicide.

The situation in Kanth village in Moradabad district continued to be tense Saturday, following Friday’s clashes between BJP workers, villagers and police in which the district magistrate and some police officials were injured, the authorities said.

Moradabad Divisional Commissioner Shiv Shankar Singh said the situation was “tense but under control”.

Woman gangraped in Badaun village in Uttar Pradesh

A 25-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped and injured by three persons in Bisauli area here, police said today.

The incident took place on Thursday night when the woman was returning home after giving food to her husband at an orchard, they said.

When the woman resisted, the accused injured her with a knife, police said.

A case was lodged against Peer Baksh, Tinku and Haneef in this connection last night, they said.PTI

AP deputy cm announced 100 days plan

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister K E Krishnamurthy today announced a plan of 100 days for the benefit of the people as well as to streamline administration.

Speaking to media, he said that stern steps would be taken to curb corruption and irregularities in registration department. The government is trying to prevent discrepancy of land value between registration and revenue departments.

Egypt court sentences Brotherhood leader, 36 Islamists to life

Muslim Brotherhood’s Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie and 36 other Islamists were today sentenced to life by an Egyptian court for involvement in deadly protests last year after military’s ouster of president Mohammed Morsi.

Badie, convicted of involvement in deadly protests, has already received death sentences in two other cases.

In yet another blow to the Muslim Brotherhood, Badie was among the 37, out of 48 defendants accused of inciting violence and blocking the Qalyoub Highway last year, who were given life sentences today.
