Teenaged Delhi student falls off train, dies

A teenage Delhi student who had come to Gurgaon with his friends for a jaunt in shopping malls, fell off a running train and died on the spot, police said Saturday.

Aashu, 17, of Dabri in Delhi missed his classes and came to Gurgaon with four of his friends.

“While returning to Delhi late Friday evening, Aashu fell off a running train near Bajghera and died on the spot,” said a police officer.

The deceased was a class X student.

The body was Sunday handed over to his family members after post-mortem examination.

Five militants killed in Pakistan air raids

At least five suspected militants were killed and as many militant hideouts were destroyed after jet fighters pounded parts of Pakistan’s tribal region of North Waziristan early Saturday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR),on facing fire and opposition from inside the Miramshah town and Boya village, air strikes were launched to eliminate militants, Dawn news reported.

Militant hideouts, caves and a huge cache of arms and ammunition were also destroyed as militants were killed in the air strikes. Most of the killed militants were reportedly Uzbeks.

200 Indians to return from Iraq Saturday night

Two hundred Indians from Iraq will return Saturday night by an Iraqi Airways special chartered flight from Najaf to Delhi, external affairs ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said.

He said that in the next 48 hours, approximately another 400 Indian nationals would be returning to various destinations in India, including Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad, through commercial flights.

“It is estimated that about 1,200 (Indians) would have returned to India at government cost by Monday,” Akbaruddin said.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Saturday claimed that the BJP-led NDA Government worked systematically to free and get back the 46 Indian nurses stranded in Iraq. “I would like to congratulate Narendra Modi’s government for safely bringing back people stuck in Iraq. They have worked systematically and have aided people to come back to their home safely,” said Naqvi. US bans drone operations at national parks

The United States has banned launching, landing or operating drones from all national parks, monuments and other historical sites.

“We have serious concerns about the negative impact that flying unmanned aircraft is having in parks. We are prohibiting their use until we can determine the most appropriate policy that will protect park resources and provide all visitors with a rich experience,” Jonathan Jarvis, director of the National Park Service (NPS), said in a statement.

Facebook faces action over ’emotion contagion’ study

US privacy group Electronic Privacy Information Centre (EPIC) has filed a formal complaint with the Federate Trade Commission (FTC) over Facebook’s use of user data in its “emotion contagion” study.

“The company purposefully messed with people’s minds. Facebook conducted the psychological experiment with researchers at Cornell University and the University of California, San Francisco, who failed to follow standard ethical protocols for human subject research,” EPIC said in its complaint.

Opposition to raise price rise during budget session

The government Saturday said it was prepared to discuss all issues in the budget session of parliament that begins Monday as the opposition said it will raise price rise and the recent rail fare hike.

In Germany, Dusseldorf airport has recently started using this technology where travelers can drop their car at arrival level of the ‘parking plus’ structure, CNN reported.

The Pakistani army said security forces sought air support after militants showed resistance during the ongoing ground offensive in North Waziristan Saturday.

78 workers from Iraq return to Hyderabad

A group of 78 Indian workers stranded in war-ravaged Iraq landed here Saturday.

The first batch of workers arrived here by a special aircraft at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad on the outskirts of the city.

Officials are making arrangements to send the workers to their respective hometowns.

They were among 183 Indians who arrived by a special Air India flight from Erbil, capital of Iraq’s Kurdistan region. The flight reached here via Kochi, where 46 nurses from Kerala disembarked.

Death threat to judge hearing Omar Abdullah case

A judge in Allahabad has received a threatening letter, saying he will be blown up if he does not dismiss a case against Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, police said Saturday.

The letter, received by the office of the judicial magistrate in the district court, Gyanendra Tripathi, is signed under the name of Lashkar-e-Taiba.

A worried Tripathi handed over the letter to district police chief Manjil Saini who in turn ordered a probe into the matter.

Saini asked a special police team to ascertain from where the letter was dispatched and also to verify it.
