Cauvery irrigation corporation appeals to farmers to end protest for water

The Cauvery Niravari Nigam Limited (irrigation corporation) on Saturday requested the farmers living in the river belt to end their protest and cooperate with the Water Resources Department by withdrawing their demand for release of available water into the Vishveswaraya Canal.

CNNL Managing Director K Jaiprakash told reporters that the Indian Meteorological Department has predicted a deficit monsoon and advised to use the available storages in the reservoirs judiciously to cater to the drinking water needs.

Government rules out any immediate hike in prices of LPG, kerosene

Ruling out any immediate hike in prices of LPG and kerosene, Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today said the new government will continue with the policy of subsidising commonly used cooking fuels.

“There will no increase in LPG and kerosene prices for now. We will continue with the extant pricing policy,” he said here.

Besides continuing to subsidise LPG and kerosene, the NDA government will also not disrupt the previous UPA government’s policy of up to 50 paise a litre increase in diesel price every month.

Maharashtra warns of using stringent law to break medicos strike

The Maharashtra government threatened to invoke the provisions of the stringent Maharashtra Essential Services Maintenance Act (MESMA) against striking medicos if they failed to resume duties by Sunday.

Simultaneously Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan issued an appeal to the 12,000 striking doctors, affiliated to the Maharashtra Associaton of Gazetted Medical Officers (MAGMO), to return to work in the interests of the patients.

Dubai reveal plans to build world’s largest shopping mall

An ambitious “Mall of the World” project boasting of the world’s first temperature-controlled city was unveiled in the UAE Saturday, a Dubai Holding statement said.

The project will be developed by Dubai Holdings and would be located along Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai.

With a total area of 48 million square foot, the complex will house the largest shopping mall in the world spread over 743,000 square metres.

The mall will take the form of an extended retail street network.

The project will be developed in multiple phases in alignment with the gradual growth in tourism in the city.

Chinese Sticky Chicken Wings Recipe

Ingredients :

Chicken Wings 1-1/2 kg
White Chili ¼ tsp
Garlic 2 Cloves
Fresh Red Chili 1
Spring Onion 2
Soya Sauce 3 tbsp
Brown Sugar 4 tbsp
Five SpIce Powder 1 tbsp
Vinegar 1 tbsp
Chinese Sticky Chicken Wings Method / Tarika:

In a saucepan add 4 tbsp brown sugar and cook.

After this add 3 tbsp soya sauce, 1 tbsp vinegar, 1 tbsp five spice powder. Mix well.

Along with this add ¼ tsp white chili.

Now in a frying pan heat 1 tbsp oil and add 2 cloves of garlic and 2 spring onions.

Fry for 30 seconds and dish out.

Three employees of Chhattisgarh electricity board booked for negligence

Three employees of Chhattisgarh Electricity Board, including an assistant engineer, were on Saturday booked by police for alleged negligence in connection with the death of a trainee lineman in 2012.

“Assistant Engineer Yogesh Patel, Assistant A Dharmadas and Line Assistant SS Akhtar have been booked under sections 304 (A) (causing death by negligence), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of Indian Penal Code in connection with the death of a trainee Lineman Vikas Bharadwaj,” Raigadh SP (City) Satyendra Pandeya told reporters here.

Man killed by brother over property dispute

A 50-year-old man was on Saturday killed allegedly by his brother over a property dispute in Nawabganj area of Gonda district, police said.

Tulsi Ram Yadav was allegedly attacked by his brother Swaminath Yadav with an iron rod in Kazipur village today morning while the former was asleep, they said.

A property dispute was said to be the reason behind the attack, police said, adding Tulsi was admitted to a hospital where he died.

A case has been lodged against Swaminath and efforts were being made to arrest him, the police added.

29 injured in China bus fire

As many as 29 people were wounded, including 24 severely, when a bus caught fire in Hangzhou in eastern China.

The fire broke out at around 5 p.m. Saturday when the bus was on the Qingchun road in the central part of Hangzhou, a capital of coastal Zhejiang Province, Xinhua reported.

Twenty-four of them were in serious condition, said the Hangzhou Health Bureau.

Bus passengers had to smash window glass to flee.

All the injured were rushed to three hospitals for treatment.

The cause of the blaze is being investigated.

Telangana seeks more time for admissions in professional courses

The Telangana government will file an appeal in the Supreme Court on Monday for extending the date of completion of admissions in professional courses till the end of October.

The court had earlier directed the government to complete the process of admissions in engineering and medicine courses based on EAMCET by Aug 1.

The decision to file an appeal was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao Saturday on grounds of delay in fee reimbursements.

Himachal seeks special assistance for developing rail lines

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh Saturday called on union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley here and sought special assistance for the state, especially in developing the rail network.

Thousands of Brazilian fans flocked to the streets here to celebrate their country’s 2-1 win over Colombia in the quarterfinals, taking them into the last four of the World Cup.

After the victory, the fans celebrated with loud music and fireworks across Brazil except Belo Horizonte as residents there are mourning the overpass collapse that killed two people and injured more than 20, reports EFE.

76 Telangana, Andhra nurses return from Iraq

A group of 78 Indian workers including 76 nurses stranded in war-ravaged Iraq landed here Saturday.

The group arrived here by a special aircraft at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad on the outskirts of the city.

Officials are making arrangements to send the workers to their respective hometowns in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states.

They were among 183 Indians who arrived by a special Air India flight from Erbil, capital of Iraq’s Kurdistan region. The flight reached here via Kochi, where 46 nurses from Kerala disembarked.

Nurses, 137 other Indians reach home from Iraq, 200 more on way

Ending days of tension and uncertainty, 183 Indians stranded in strife-torn Iraq, including the 46 nurses from Kerala who were freed by Iraqi insurgents, arrived home Saturday to a grand welcome while 200 more were on their way.

A special Air India flight from Erbil, capital of Iraq’s Kurdistan region, carrying the 183 landed in Kochi close to noon with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and his cabinet colleagues, legislators, Lok Sabha members and state government officials waiting to receive them.

FIFA accused of violating Suarez’s human rights

Uruguay’s National Institution for Human Rights said that FIFA violated the human rights of their football player Luis Suarez after suspending him for four months from any football-related activity.

The institution said Friday that FIFA’s sanctions against Suarez violate the Uruguayan constitution and the international laws relating to work and personal freedom. The statement also added that the sanctions were cruel and hasty, reports EFE.

Along with the suspension, Suarez was also handed a nine-match ban after biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini during a World Cup Group D match.
