Mass prayers for rains today

Muslims of Hyderabad will offer mass prayers at Eidgah Meer Alam, Eidgah Ujala Shah Sahab (Saidabad), Old Eidgah (Madannapet) and various other places imploring the God Almighty to shower rains in the State.

Mr. Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Dy. CM will also participate in the prayer. He has appealed to the Muslim Ulema to offer special prayers for rains. The entire month of June was without rains. The farmers and the livestock are put to a lot of inconvenience due to lack of rains.

A.P. State Wakf Tribunal Bar Association gets recognition

Secretary of Bar Council of A.P. Ms. A. Renuka presented the certificate of recognition of A.P. State Wakf Tribunal Bar Association to its officials yesterday at the office of A.P. Bar Council at High Court. Present on this occasion were Mr. Ajaz Ali Quraishi, Vice President of A.P. Bar Association and other members. Mr. Quraishi told that so far this association was not recognize. He also assured that very soon Housing Scheme for its members would be implemented. Discriminatory attitude of Transco in Koratla

Transco is adopting discriminatory attitude which is causing a lot of inconvenience to the Muslims in Koratla of Kareem Nagar district. They are cutting down electricity just before Iftar time. Many residents of Koratla telephoned to Siasat Office and complained about it. The current is switched off exactly before Magrib prayer and it is restored after the Azan is called. This speaks of the discriminatory attitude of the officials of Transco. At the sunset, the Muslims break fast for which announcement is made through Siren. For Siren and Azan, loudspeaker is used.

SC refers AAP”s Delhi Assembly dissolution plea to Constitution Bench

The Supreme Court has referred the petition of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) seeking the dissolution of the Delhi assembly and conducting fresh polls, to a Constitution Bench. The AAP had moved the top court to direct the central government and the lieutenant governor to dissolve the Delhi assembly and order fresh elections. Rs. 271 crore sanctioned for purchase of police vehicles

Iraqi insurgent leader makes first public appearance through video

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the self-claimed “Islamic State”, made his first public appearance at a mosque in Iraq’s Mosul city, according to a video clip posted on the Internet Saturday.

The video appearance came a few days after the Islamic State in Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS), an Al Qaeda breakaway group, proclaimed the establishment of a “caliphate” straddling Syria and Iraq, crowned its leader Baghdadi as the “caliph”, and changed its name into the “Islamic State (IS)”, Xinhua reported.

11 killed in plane crash in Poland

Eleven people died in a plane crash Saturday afternoon in Topolow, near Czestochowa, in southern Poland, authorities said.

Only one person survived the crash of the private airplane belonging to a parachuting school close to Czestochowa, some 207 km southwest of Warsaw, Xinhua reported citing a fire services official.

Eleven parachutists and a pilot were on board, according to media reports. After the crash the aircraft burst into flames. Sixteen fire brigade units rushed to the scene and the fire was put out quickly.

Jordan slams Israel for banning entry into al-Aqsa Mosque

Jordan Saturday slammed Israel for preventing thousands of Palestinian worshippers from entering al-Aqsa Mosque Friday, media reports said.

Jordanian Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani condemned Israel, saying it’s “a stark violation and provocation of the feelings of the Muslims, especially during the holy month of Ramadan,” Xinhua reported citing a state-run Petra news agency report.

Al-Aqsa Mosque is a holy place for Muslims in east Jerusalem, where Jordan oversees all Christian and Islamic holy sites.

Woman raped by childhood friend on pretext of job

A 30-year-old fitness centre employee has been arrested for raping his childhood woman friend here after promising to provide her a job, police said Saturday.

Faizal, resident of Shahdara, raped the woman June 19 inside his gym in Jagatpuri area of east Delhi.

“Faizal had threatened the victim to kill her husband and children if she told police or anyone else. The woman somehow mustered courage and informed police Friday night about the incident,” said a police official.

The accused was arrested after the victim’s medial report confirmed rape, he said.

Argentina reached the semifinals of the FIFA World Cup, for the first time in 24 years, after a hard fought 1-0 win over Belgium at the Estadio Nacional de Brasilia here Saturday.

Gonzalo Higuain scored his first goal in this year’s tournament with a brilliant first time volley in the eighth minute and that turned out to be the difference between the two teams.

Israel strikes Gaza in response to rocket fire

Israeli fighter jets carried out three airstrikes on targets in the southern Gaza Strip Saturday in response to rockets being fired into its territory, witnesses and paramedics said.

Israeli war jets carried out three successive airstrikes on targets in the southern town of Rafah and the village of al-Garara, Xinhua reported.

No injuries have been reported so far.

Paramedics said that following the explosions in southern Gaza Strip, ambulances and rescue teams rushed to the bombed area, but no injuries were reported.

Railway fare hike necessary: Amar Singh

Welcoming the hike in railway fares initiated by the Narendra Modi government, RLD leader Amar Singh Saturday said the raise was needed for sustainable growth and said the central government’s stance that the rich should voluntarily give up cooking gas subsidy is a mark of “good governance”.

“The hike has been criticised by many but I feel it is necessary…we need to have to have sustainable growth to have world-class facility,” he told reporters here on the sidelines of an event organised by MCC Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Two children killed in wall collapse in Muzaffarnagar

Two children were killed and as many injured when the wall of a house collapsed at Mujhera village under Miranpur police station in the district, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place last evening when the children were playing near the house, they said.

Karin (5) and Farin (3) were killed on the spot while the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital, they said.

China continues Diaoyu Islands patrol

Two vessels patrolled the waters around the Diaoyu Islands on Saturday, the authorities said.

According to the State Oceanic Administration, two China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels – CCG 2151 and 2101 – conducted a routine patrol of China’s territorial waters around the Diaoyu Islands, Xinhua reported.

China has been conducting the patrols on a regular basis. The islands are called Diaoyu in China and Senkaku in Japan.

Japan claims to be occupying the islands since 1895, while China maintains the islands were recognised as Chinese territory as early as 1783.

”Announce Afghan presidential poll result as scheduled”

Two injured in police firing on protesters against thermal project

Two persons sustained bullet injuries when police opened fire to quell violent protests against a 2000 Megawatt thermal power project coming up at Kudagi, about 40 kilometers from here, on Saturday.

The protesters set afire half a dozen vehicles. The fire also gutted some shops and sheds, a senior police official said, adding, five persons were injured in the violence.

122 nurses, 61 other Indians reach home from Iraq, 200 more on way

Ending a tense period, 183 Indians stranded in strife-torn Iraq, including 122 nurses – 46 from Kerala freed by Iraqi insurgents, 52 from Telangana and 24 from Andhra Pradesh – arrived home Saturday to a grand welcome while 200 more were on their way.

A special Air India flight from Erbil, capital of Iraq’s Kurdistan region, carrying the 183 landed in Kochi close to noon with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and his cabinet colleagues, legislators, Lok Sabha members and state government officials waiting to receive them.
