Delhi to popularise its grievance redressal system

The Delhi government will launch a campaign to spread awareness about its new public grievance system that was put in place at the Delhi secretariat this year, an official statement said here Sunday.

The Public Grievance Monitoring System (PGMS) was set up for redressal of complaints received by post, online and at the secretariat itself during public hearing sessions.

“By launching the campaign, more people will become aware about the steps taken by the government to address their grievances,” said the statement.

Given a free hand, Indian engineers are capable of making Indian trains run at 300 kmph, a renowned expert says.

But the railways must shed its archaic mindset to make this possible, B. Rajaram, a former managing director of Konkan Railway, told IANS.

“Our young engineers are quite capable of operating faster trains safely and efficiently, given the political will and a free hand,” Rajaram said in an interview from Herndon in the US.

Dutch coach Louis Van Gaal scripted history as he substituted his goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen with penalty specialist Tim Krul barely seconds before the end of extra time for the penalty shoot-out. Krul starred with two brilliant saves as the Netherlands beat Costa Rica in their World Cup quarterfinal here Saturday.

It was a masterstroke from Van Gaal and was meticulously planned. Van Gaal kept his fist choice goalkeeper Cillessen in the dark that he would be replaced by the long armed Krul if the match went into the penalty shoot-outs.

‘Blank firing’ near Israeli homes in Delhi

An unidentified person opened ‘blank fire’ early Sunday in a south Delhi area where many foreigners including Israelis live but it was not clear if there was an intended target.

Police said the incident happened around 2 a.m. near the Delhi Public School in Vasant Vihar.

A “blank fire” is caused by a weapon used often in races. The firing causes a loud noise, accompanied by smoke, but no cartridge is involved.

Delhi to promote women’s safety at IITF

The Delhi government will promote the issue of women’s safety during this year’s India International Trade Fair (IITF) to be held Nov 14-27 in the national capital, an official said Sunday.

“This year’s theme of IITF is women entrepreneurship. Focus should be given on women-specific programmes being undertaken including issues relating to women’s safety,” said Amit Yadav, CMD of Delhi State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) which will set up the ‘Delhi Pavilion’ at Pragati Maidan – the venue for the fair.

11 killed in wall collapse in Tamil Nadu

Eleven construction workers were killed and two injured when a wall of a warehouse collapsed in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district, officials said Sunday.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa announced a solatium of Rs.200,000 to the families of those who were killed and Rs.50,000 to the injured. The construction workers were from Andhra Pradesh.

The wall of the warehouse collapsed early Sunday on the huts abutting it. The wall was being built for a private warehouse in Tiruvallur, around 50 km from here, officials said.

A portion of the wall fell on the shacks near it.

29 killed in twin attacks in Kenya

At least 29 people were killed and a number of houses torched in twin attacks in two counties in Kenya, the interior ministry said Sunday.

BBC quoting witnesses said heavily armed men raided a trading centre in the village of Hindi in Lamu county, and a police station in Gamba of Tana River county Saturday night.

The Somali militant Islamist group al-Shabab claimed that it was behind the killings.

The group has previously mounted a number of attacks in the region.

About a dozen armed men had appeared in Hindi late Saturday evening and opened fire, the report said.

Haryana announces separate panel for its gurdwaras

Bowing to the demand of Sikh leadership from the state, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda Sunday announced that a separate Sikh body would be set up to run the affairs of gurdwaras (Sikh shrines) in Haryana.

The Haryana government is likely to bring a legislation in the forthcoming assembly session, starting July 11, to enable the creation of a new Sikh committee to manage gurdwaras and Sikh affairs in Haryana.

Facilitating return of 1,600 Indians from Iraq: Government

About 1,600 Indian nationals in Iraq are being provided tickets by the Indian government for their return, external affairs ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said Sunday.

Two other special flights will be operated to New Delhi from Najaf and Basra in the next 36 to 48 hours with approximately 200 Indians, he said at a press conference here.

Akbaruddin said 486 telephone calls were received at control rooms from stranded Indians in Iraq and all were being responded to.

“We are responding to each one of them,” he said.

Dubai to build world’s largest shopping mall

Dubai has unveiled plans to build the world’s first temperature-controlled city Mall of the World, an ambitious project spread over an area of 48 million sq ft, to attract tourists even during the scorching summer months.

The project will comprise the world’s largest indoor theme park, covered by a glass dome during the sweltering summer months, and 100 hotels and serviced apartments.

It will house the largest shopping mall in the world with an area of 8 million sq ft, which will take the form of an extended retail street network.

9/10 internet users intercepted by NSA were unintended targets

Nine of 10 internet users, both Americans and non-Americans, whose accounts were intercepted by the National Security Agency (NSA) were not the intended surveillance targets but were caught in a net cast by the US
spy agency for somebody else, according to a media report.

Citing documents provided by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, The Washington Post said that nearly half of those surveillance files contained names, email addresses or other details that the NSA marked as belonging to US citizens or residents.

A special “Kasab class” is part of Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)’s training module for its new recruits during which they are told about the mistakes committed by Ajmal Kasab during the deadly Mumbai terror attack.

This emerged during interrogation of LeT terrorist Mohd Naveed Jutt alias Abu Hanzala, a resident of Multan in Pakistan, who was arrested by police in the third week of last month in South Kashmir, according to official sources.

Protesting against recent hike in petrol and diesel prices, Navi Mumbai Congress workers today took out a “De Dkakka motorcycle rally”, where party workers pushed the vehicles intead driving them, displaying unaffordability of the fuel.

Milk Powder Gulab Jamun Recipe

Ingredients

Milk Powder Gulab Jamun Recipe
Milk powder-1 cup
Maida-1/2 cup
Sugar-11/2 cup
Ghee- 1 tbsp
Baking soda-pinch
Cardamom powder-1/4 tsp
Oil for deep fry

Procedure:

Mix maida, milk powder, baking soda, ghee and little amount of water to make a smooth dough.

Divide this smooth dough into small balls.

Heat a pan, add sugar in two cups of water and add cardamom powder in it.

Now sugar dissolves in the water and boiling for few minutes to make sugar syrup. Turn off flame and keep it aside.

Chicken Kathi Roll Recipe

Ingredients:

2 atta phulkas or whole wheat leavened bread
2 egg whites
2 tsp chopped coriander
3 tsp oil
sliced onions and Juliennes of pepper to garnish

For the filling:

150 gm chicken tikka
cottage cheese-optional
2 tbsp chopped onions
2 tsp chopped coriander leaves
2 tbsp ginger garlic paste
1/4 cup chopped tomatoes
a pinch of turmeric powder
salt and chilli powder to taste
1 tsp chopped green chillies
oil to shallow fry
sliced onions
juliennes of pepper

Procedure:

To prepare the crepe, mix the egg whites with the coriander.

Kashmiri chicken

Ingredients

1 kg Chicken Breast (skinless)
2 tbsp Almonds (sliced)
2 tbsp Corn Oil
1/2 cup Yogurt
1 cup Onion (grounded)
5 cloves Garlic (minced)
6 Green Cardamom
1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
1/2 cup Cashew Nuts (grounded)
1“ fresh Ginger (minced)
2 Tomatoes (cut into small pieces)

Instructions:

Heat the oil; add the ground onion and stir until it changes its color.
Mix garlic & ginger continue to fry till light brown.

Mix the cardamom and chicken and cook for about 15 – 20 minutes on medium high flame.

400 gms of fresh noodles

5 cups of water

1 tsp salt (as per taste)

1 tbsp of cooking oil for noodles

Garlic paste

Chilli powder

1 cup of cooked thinly sliced vegetables

1 large onion-thinly sliced

1 tsp of soya sauce

2 tbsp of chopped celery

Vinegar

Chilli sauce

Method:

Firstly, start with boiling the water and add salt to it. Put the noodles and cook until they are soft. Continue cooking for a while if the noodles look dry.

Drain the noodles immediately and cool under running water till they are cooled.

Railway engineer run over by engine in Bihar

A railway maintenance engineer was fatally run over by an engine at Jamalpur station in Bihar’s Munger district on Sunday.

The incident took place at the diesel shed when the 35-year-old railway maintenance engineer was accidently run over by the engine after its driver moved it in reverse direction, Jamalpur East Colony station house officer (SHO) Deepak Kumar said.

The engineer was on duty, he added.PTI

Sikhs participate in Iftar at Dubai mosque

Around 150 Sikhs attended an iftar feast at a mosque in Dubai, joining Muslims in breaking their fast during the month of Ramadan in the Gulf country.

“The purpose of organising the iftar was to reach out to people from different faiths and help them learn more about the holy month of Ramadan,” said Ahmed Hashim, one of the organisers of the iftar get-together.

The Sikhs from Guru Nanak Darbar, a Gurudwara in Dubai, were invited to visit the Al Manar Islamic Centre on Friday to attend the iftar party, Khaleej Times reported.
