2,200 Indians to return from Iraq

Nearly 2,200 Indians in Iraq’s non-conflict areas wish to return home, with 117 of them set to reach the capital after midnight Sunday, it was announced Sunday.

The external affairs ministry said the government was buying tickets for some 1,600 of the 2,200 while the air fare for the other 600 were being paid by the companies in Iraq they worked for.

The announcement comes a day after 46 nurses from Kerala seized and freed by Sunni insurgents who have overrun vast areas in Iraq flew back to Kochi to a grand welcome.

The national capital experienced a partly cloudy Sunday with the maximum temperature at 37 degree Celsius, one notch above the season’s average. Met has forecast a similar Monday.

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, who has adapted ‘Arth’ as a play, is now set to stage his 1989 film ‘Daddy’.

Daddy’, which marked the filmmaker’s daughter Pooja Bhatt’s acting debut and also starred Anupam Kher and Manohar
Singh, will be remade in the form of a play.

“It is a very sensitive subject and it is important for the next generation to know the complexities and sensitivities of relationships which are portrayed in the film. The success of ‘Arth’ play has inspired me to bring ‘Daddy’ on the stage,” Bhatt said.

Yemen clashes between rebels, tribesmen kill 35

A Yemeni security official says clashes between Shiite rebels and government-allied Islamist tribesmen have killed at least 35 people and wounded 40 others.

The official said today 15 soldiers and 20 rebels have been killed in the ongoing battles between Hawthi rebels and
tribesmen from the Islamist Islah Party in and around the city of Amran, northwest of the capital, Sanaa.

The official says national army units are fighting with the tribesmen and military warplanes targeted the rebels who
tried to attack a government compound late yesterday.

Tigers to be shifted from crowded Ranthambore

The Rajasthan government plans to shift some tigers from the Ranthambore National Park to other parks in the state, following an increase in the number of big cats and territorial fights between them, an official said Sunday.

At least five tigers have been killed in territorial fights among the over the past five years in Ranthambore in Sawai Madhopur district, some 150 km from Jaipur, a forest department official told IANS.

Environmentalists say that as the numbers of tigers increase, there is also a need to create habitats in which they can thrive.

At least four people were injured Sunday when suspected Bodo insurgents triggered two grenade blasts in Chirang district of Assam, police said.

Six held over Palestinian teenager’s murder

Six people have been arrested over the murder of a Palestinian teenager here, media reported Sunday.

Israeli police told BBC that Mohammad Abu Khdair was murdered “because of his nationality”.

Khdair was abducted in East Jerusalem and his body was found July 2. The post-mortem examination findings suggested he was burnt alive.

His death followed the abduction and murder of three young Israelis.

Khdair, who had also suffered a head injury, had suffered 90 percent burns, the report said.

The findings have not been officially released.
