Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today strongly condemned Haryana’s move on setting up separate SGPC for the state and accused Congress of “meddling” in religious affairs of the Sikhs.

When asked to comment on the announcement made by his Haryana counterpart Bhupinder Singh Hooda in Kaithal on constituting a separate committee for the management of Gurudwaras in Haryana, Badal said, “It was a cheap step aimed at scoring brownie points in the media.”

“It is unfortunate that Congress is irrelevantly meddling in the religious affairs of the Sikhs,” he said.

Islamic Hamas movement Sunday slammed the Israeli army’s decision of minimizing the allowed area of fishing for Gaza Strip’s fishermen from six to three miles.

“This is another additional Israeli escalation against the people in Gaza Strip,” Xinhua quoted Sami Abu Zuhri, Hamas spokesman in Gaza, as saying in an emailed statement.

He added that Israel’s new measure “shows that the occupation (Israel) is untruthful in stopping the escalation and insists on carrying on with its aggression on our people”.

The Dalai Lama Sunday reiterated his plea to Buddhists in Myanmar and Sri Lanka to halt violence against Muslims, in a speech to tens of thousands of devotees to mark his 79th birthday.

In front of the massive crowd that included Hollywood film star Richard Gere in northern India, the Dalai Lama said the violence in both Buddhist-majority countries targeting religious minority Muslims was unacceptable. “I urge the Buddhists in these countries to imagine an image of Buddha before they commit such a crime,” Tibet’s exiled spiritual leader said on the outskirts of Leh, high in the Himalayas.

Pro-Russian insurgents driven out of their stronghold in eastern Ukraine have converged on the city of Donetsk, where their commander says they will regroup to continue their fight against the Ukrainian government.

Ukrainian troops forced the rebels out of their stronghold of Slovyansk yesterday, suggesting the government may finally be making gains in the months-long battle against the insurgency.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today asked the MPs from the state to make collective and coordinated efforts to get the promises made during bifurcation realised.

Naidu, who convened a meeting of MPs from all parties a day ahead of the Budget session of Parliament, told them that the Centre has to make some legislations and issue orders for the implementation of promises made during the bifurcation of undivided Andhra Pradesh, according to an official release.

YSRC legislator G Srikanth Reddy today alleged that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is a confused man and as a result the people are getting confused. Talking to media he criticized and alleged that the TDP has intimidated MPTC and ZPTC councilors. Electing Chaman as Anantapur ZP chairman has shows that the TDP encouraging unsocial elements, he said. He took exception to Chandrababu for promising to provide job opportunity to each family in AP. But now he is retrenching even contract employees, he said.

Telangana State Government is getting ready to conduct its first Budget session in August last week. It is likely that the session will continue for about 40 days according to information. Finance Minister Etela Rajender is to present maiden budget which is expected to be around Rs 90,000 crore to Rs 1 lakh crore, according to sources. The State Finance Ministry is indulged in preparation of the budget to take a final shape with inputs from Chief Minister, K Chandrashekhar Rao.

TRS Secretary General and MP, K Kesava Rao today flayed the Center for violating constitutional norms with regard to Polavaram project. Talking to mediapersons here he stated the TRS will give notices to the Center against Polavaram Ordinance. Our MPs will fight the Center in Parliament session beginning Monday and try to protect the seven Tribal mandals under Polavarama project in Khammam district, he said. The rally is aimed at extending solidarity to Aditya Mehetha – a physically challenged person, taking up a venture of cycle ride from the highest Manali are to Khardhangla Road. Jointly conducted by Hyderabad Bicycle Club and Adithya Mehetha foundation, the ride began at PV Ghat concluded at Peoples Plaza. Justice Lakshmana Reddy today sought Andhra Pradesh Government to set up capital in Rayalaseema area as per “Sreebagh Pact” whose decision taken in 1937. Participating as a chief guest in a seminar conducted by Rayalaseema Rajadhani Samithi held on “Rayalaseema- right for new Capital” at Sundaraiah Vignana Kendra here, Lakshmana Reddy recalled that the Sreebagh Pact in 1937 between the leaders of Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra came to a decision to set up new capital in the Rayalaseema region. Rayalaseema regions is lagging behind in many spheres, he deplored.

In his first participation in a global meet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the sixth summit of BRICS countries in Brazil July 14-16 where reforms of the UN Security Council and issues like the BRICS development bank and climate change are likely to be taken up.

It will also be his first meeting as PM with top leaders of BRICS countries that also include Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa.

The sixth BRICS summit will take place in the Brazilian cities of Fortaleza and Brasilia.

Condemning the murder of college student Sourav Chowdhury, who allegedly earned the wrath of criminals for protesting against anti-social activities and liquor dens, West Bengal’s Left Front Sunday alleged that efforts were on to dilute the crime’s gravity by raking up a debate on his political affiliation.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Sunday asked the UN to form an international fact-finding committee to investigate what he described as ongoing Israeli violations against the Palestinians.

Abbas’s comments came after his meeting in the West Bank city of Ramallah with Robert Serry, the UN special envoy on the Middle East peace process, Xinhua reported.

His request was officially handed to Serry in a letter that will be delivered to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Iyad Ameen Madani has strongly condemned the recent killings of a number of people in a suicide bomb attack in Nigeria.

The bomb attack occurred at a popular market in Maiduguri of Borno state.

Madani expressed strong disappointment and sadness over the continuing acts of violence by Boko Haram terrorist group targeting innocent people, and conveyed his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and the Borno state government.

In a bizarre promise to youths of Haryana ahead of the assembly polls this year, BJP leader OP Dhankar has said he will bring brides from Bihar for them if they are unable to find a match in the state infamous for its skewed sex ratio.

Addressing a Kisan Mahasammelan (farmers’ meeting) at Narwana in Jind on Friday, Dhankar asked the gathering to strengthen the hands of BJP in the state, saying, “Making BJP strong also means that those youths in many villages who are roaming without brides will get one.”

Congress leader Rashid Alvi said here on Sunday that the government doesn’t want to appoint a Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Parliament so that they don’t have to take any suggestion from the Opposition. “There are many constitutional authorities who are appointed after taking the view of the Leader of Opposition., if there is one. The Government wants freedom fill these appointments and does not want to listen to suggestions from the Leader of Opposition . This will not strengthen the democracy or the country. It’s in the welfare of country to appoint a LoP.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi criticized Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Janata Dal United (JDU) for their strategy to form an alliance against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the coming Vidhan Sabha elections. “In politics any party can have an alliance with any party, nobody can question it but when desperate and depressed people form an alliance then they are not left with anything in the end,” said Naqvi.
