Bahrain condemns terrorist attacks in Saudi Arabia

The Bahrain government Monday condemned the terrorist attacks that targeted security patrols at Wadia’h border point and the reception building of General Intelligence in Sharorah governorate in Saudi Arabia.

Bahrain’s foreign ministry said that the despicable act resulted in the death of four security men and was aimed at destabilising the security and stability of Saudi Arabia and the entire region, Xinhua reported.

College student stabbed to death in group clash

A 19-year-old college student was allegedly stabbed to death and another suffered serious injuries in a clash between two groups of students after one group refused the request of a student to join and play game at Perungudi near here, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Sethusurya, first year B. Com students and the injured as Bilal.

The clash broke out yesterday when a fellow student, John Prabhu sought to join the game of Cricket Sethusurya and his friends were playing and they suggested him to join later, as the play was half way through, they said.

2.9 kg gold seized from two passengers

Undocumented gold to the tune of 2.9 kg were today seized in separate incidents at the airport here and two persons arrested in this connection, airport authorities said.

In the first incident, customs officials found 1.2 kg of gold concealed in the belongings of a 17-year-old boy after he alighted from a flight from Kuwait around 6 am, they said.

Investigations revealed he is a native of Rajahmundry of Andhra Pradesh, they said.

Hyderabad will need of two more airports in future: KCR

Hyderabad will require at least two more airports in the near future as the city’s population is expected to touch three crore with the development of the Information Technology Investment Region, according to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

“Hyderabad’s population in 2014 is 94 lakh. We are soon to develop a Rs 2.30 lakh crore ITIR that will create two more Hyderabads and the population will shoot up to three crore. So, we will require at least two more airports to the east and north of the city to cater to the additional population,” Rao said.

22-year-old girl raped by tutor in Ghaziabad

A 22-year-old girl was allegedly raped repeatedly by her tutor, who also made a video clip of the act and blackmailed her, for the past six months in Indirapuram area of the district, police said today.

The accused identified as Shafiq Ahmed, who ran a coaching institute for spoken English in Khoda area, has been arrested following a complaint filed by the girl, police said, adding a case has been registered in this connection.

The Supreme Court’s verdict on Monday declaring that a sharia court has no legal sanction drew sharp reaction from Muslim clerics who said that the Constitution allows them the right to work and act according to Muslim personal law.

Zafaryab Jilani, member of the Muslim Personal Law Board, said, “We are not doing anything parallel to the judicial system and we don’t say that any order passed by a Qazi is binding on all. Our sole motto is to resolve a matter with the consent of two parties involved in accordance with sharia.”

Japanese bullet train to have foot baths, tatami mats

A new high-speed Japanese train will offer its passengers the option of getting a foot bath or relaxing on a tatami mat while enjoying the landscape.

The service will be available from July 19 on the high-speed Shinkansen line (known as bullet train) between Fukushima and Shinjo, in the Yamagata region in northern Japan, according to the Japanese railway company JR East.

The train, which has a capacity for 143 people, will feature a wagon especially for passengers to enjoy an “ashiyu” or traditional foot bath in hot water.

Jayalalithaa wants ‘decisive action’ against Sri Lanka

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa wants the central government to take “early and decisive action” to end attacks by the Sri Lanka Navy on Indian fishermen.

Suicide bombing hits Afghanistan’s Herat city

A suicide attack hit the Afghan city of Herat Monday, an official said.

The blast occurred in a locality near Herat airport when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives-laden jacket next to an army vehicle, the official told Xinhua.

“Several gunshots followed the blast. It is said that two other suicide bombers fled the scene,” a witness said.

The blast injured three army personnel.
