Parents urged to avoid illegal school vans

The Delhi government has asked all private schools in the city to urge parents to use “safe transport” provided by them and avoid “illegal vans” to send their wards to school.

In a circular issued by the Directorate of Education, the private schools have been warned against the illegal vans who flout rules by not adhering to permitted seating capacity, driving recklessly at high speeds.

Rly budget derails AP, Telangana hopes: YSRCP

Describing as constrained the Railway budget presented by Rail Minister Sandananda Gowda in the Lok Sabha, YSR Congress party said today the Centre failed to incorporate the Railway-department related assurances made in the 13th Schedule of the AP State Reorganization Bill, 2014 that guided the division of the erstwhile united AP.

Rs.100 crore for restoring government’s tourism assets

The government has announced a special package of Rs.100 crore for rebuilding or building destroyed or damaged government tourism assets, parliament was informed Tuesday.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, union Culture and Tourism Minister Shripad Yesso Naik said though the tourism ministry has not granted any package for tourism promotion in Uttarakhand, it has announced a special financial package of Rs.100 crore for “rebuilding/building destroyed/damaged government tourism assets, of which an amount of Rs.72.55 crore has been sanctioned with the release of Rs.10.58 crore”.

Link Aadhar to ration card: TJR

Former minister T Jeevan Reddy on Tuesday advised the Telangana Government to link ration cards with Aadhar cards.

Speaking to media persons here, Jeevan Reddy said that the previous Congress government has proposed a fool-proof PDS by linking the ration cards with retina of users. However, the scheme could not be launched. He said that the government could weed out fake ration cards by linking them with Aadhar cards.

Railway-linked stocks decline after budget

Stocks of companies associated with the railways declined Tuesday after Railway Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda presented his maiden railway budget in the Lok Sabha.

Profit booking wiped out the early gains made in these stocks at the end of Tuesday’s trade.

At the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), Kalindee Rail Nirman (Engineers) decreased 4.99 percent or 6.75 points at Rs.128.60, moving down from previous close of Rs.135.35.

Hague meets Sushma, discusses economic relations

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj met British Foreign Secretary William Hague here Tuesday and conveyed to him that British companies will be involved in the Bangalore-Mumbai economic corridor.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said she also thanked Hague for the announcement that a statue of Mahatma Gandhi would be installed by early next year in Parliament Square in Britain.

Akbaruddin said economic relations between the two countries were “robust” and the two leaders discussed a variety of issues.

The wife of an Assam Rifles trooper Tuesday accused another paramilitary personnel of sexually harassing and blackmailing her, and higher officials of the force of putting pressure on her not to highlight the case.

Dan Singh Negi, a rifleman of the 40th Assam Rifles Battalion, was accused of sexually harassing the mother of two over phone for the past four months.

DU admissions activity dips Tuesday

Delhi University’s third cut-off list for admissions saw a dip in percentages, but unlike other days the colleges Tuesday did not see many students and activity was dull as it seemed the admissions were getting over.

As Shri Ram College of Commerce had closed its admission for general students, the otherwise crowded college bore an empty look.

Similarly Kirori Mal College and Miranda House had few students taking admissions and some were even withdrawing to take admission in other colleges.

Disappointment in Kerala over rail budget

Political leaders in Kerala Monday criticised the railway budget presented in the parliament Monday as just one passenger train was allotted to the state.

Fromer chief minister V.S. Achuthanandan described the budget as a big zero.

“Not a single project in the railway budget has any mention of the state. Now, the only option left before the Kerala MPs is to work together and try for a separate railway zone for us,” said the Communist Party of India-Marxist leader.

The introduction of bullet trains, food lounges and better security announced in the railway budget Tuesday received a thumbs up from the common man, though skepticism about the timely and effective implementation remains a concern.

In the budget presented by Railway Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, it was announced that the first bullet train would run on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route while on some routes the speed of the trains will be increased between 160-200 km per hour.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Tuesday claimed “indecent comments” were made against her and Trinamool Congress MPs, and alleged that an attacker pulled at Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar’s saree when they were protesting the “injustice” done to Bengal in the Railway Budget.

“Indecent language was used against me. Bad language was used against my women MPs. My women MPs faced misbehaviour,” she told media persons at Chanditala in Hooghly district.

A visibly angry Banerjee said “dirty abuses” were hurled against her party MPs.

Former Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra authorised her lawyer, Norawit Laleang, to petition the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) Tuesday against its resolution to dismiss Yingluck’s request to include eight additional witnesses.

According to the defence lawyer, the refusal to allow eight witnesses to testify may result in unfairness in Yingluck’s defence, Xinhua reported.

The lawyer insisted that the petition was not meant to delay the case connected to a controversial rice-pledging scheme.

A Swiss helicopter firm is reportedly being investigated for attempts to sell former Formula One champion Michael Schumacher”s medical file. Schumacher, who was moved on 16 June from a French hospital to a hospital in Lausanne in Switzerland, was transferred by road, but initially the helicopter company had been reportedly contacted. According to the BBC, Schumacher”s manager Sabine Kehm had said last month that his medical files had been ”clearly stolen” and were being offered for sale.

FIFA medical committee has announced that every player tested for drugs at the World Cup in Brazil has been cleared of doping after more than 1,000 tests came back negative. Railway ministry’s Twitter following surges

In less than 24 hours of joining the micro-blogging site Twitter, the official handle of the ministry of railways Tuesday had close to 40,000 followers.

The ministry of railways made its debut on Twitter a day before D.V. Sadananda Gowda was to present the his maiden railway budget.

The ministry’s twitter handle is @RailMinIndia.

“The ministry of railways is now on social media. We look forward to interacting with netizens, using this vibrant medium,” read the first tweet Monday.

The followers were increasing with each passing second.
