81-year-old killed by domestic help in posh GK-II area

In yet another incident that questions the safety of senior citizens in the national capital, an 81-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her domestic help in the posh Greater Kailash-II locality, as per reports on Wednesday.

The victim, Rekha Duggal, was reportedly strangled by her 21-year-old domestic help Neeraj Saki who then tried to burn the body on Monday evening.

Neymar coming to Kerala for ayurveda treatment?

TV channels in Kerala Tuesday went berserk, saying injured Brazilian footballer Neymar was likely to come to the state to undergo ayurveda treatment for his injured back.

The TV channels said the Brazilian Football Federation has got in touch with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

However, Chandy told IANS nothing of that sort has happened.

He said there was a request from football fans in Kerala, asking the government to put up a proposal for treating Neymar using ayurveda.

Top US diplomat to visit India ahead John Kerry’s trip

In advance of the bilateral strategic dialogue, a top US diplomat will be visiting India this week as a part of preparation for the highest level talks between the two countries.

According to the State Department, Deputy Secretary of State William J Burns will be in India on a two-day visit starting July 10 in advance of the US-India Strategic Dialogue.

“He will discuss the full range of bilateral issues including economic, energy, and security cooperation with senior Indian officials,” the State Department said in a statement.

India’s overall forest cover has increased by 5,871 sq km since 2011 and the maximum rise has been witnessed in West Bengal (3,810 sq km) followed by Odisha (1,444 sq km) and Kerala (622 sq km), a report released Tuesday said.

Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda on Tuesday said that the operational portion would remain with the ministry only after doubts were raised on how he would attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the state-owned network.

In his maiden rail budget, Gowda said his ministry would seek cabinet approval for allowing FDI in railways, but passenger services would be excluded. However, he did not give details on how he will attract investors.

Addressing a press conference, Gowda said investment will be attracted in other services only.
