Eid prayers held at Taj Mahal

Thousands of Muslims offered Eid prayers at the Taj Mahal and were joined by some foreign tourists too as the 1th century monument was made open entry for three hours.

With pleasant weather, the festival marking the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan was celebrated with great fervour in Agra and neighbouring districts of Firozabad and Mathura.

Senior officials joined politicians at Idgah, Jama Masjid and other important mosques in the town to greet people and pray for communal amity.

Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem denounce Israel for Gaza violence

Many Spanish artistes including star-couple Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem and director Pedro Almodovar have denounced Israel’s bombing in Gaza as “genocide”.

In an open letter, the artistes called on the European Union to “condemn the bombing by land, sea and air against the Palestinian civilian population in the Gaza Strip”, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Describing Israel’s attack on Gaza as genocide, they also demanded a ceasefire and urged Israel to “lift the blockade, which the Gaza Strip has suffered for more than a decade”.

UPSC protest on, government advises aspirants to stay calm

UPSC aspirants Tuesday continued their protest here demanding scrapping of Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) from the entrance examination. The government advised the aspirants to maintain calm.

The protestors gathered outside the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) office in central Delhi and raised slogans against the former Congress government for implementing CSAT in the examination pattern.

Policemen deployed outside the office used mild force to disperse them when they tried to cross the barricades.

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal Tuesday moved back to his apartment in Kaushambi here, as he had to vacate his Tilak Lane residence before July 31, a party leader said.

As Delhi’s chief minister, Kejriwal shifted to a Tilak Lane house from his apartment, but after resigning from the post in February, he sought some time to stay in the house due to his daughter’s examinations.

The Aam Aadmi Party leader wanted his official residence to be transferred in his wife Sunita’s name when she was elevated to the rank of commissioner of income tax and was eligible for such an accommodation.

Snake Bite Kills Father And Daughter Nizamabad

Snake bite claimed the lives of two persons in Renjel in Nizamabad district this morning.

According to reports, Annam Gangadhar, aged 40 and his daughter Soundarya aged 18 years died of snake bite in the wee hours of Tuesday while they were asleep. The family members, who came to know about it late, rushed the two to the District Headquarters Hospital where they were declared brought dead. Soundarya is a first-year college student.

There was gloom in the village following the tragedy.

Hamas leader’s house bombed, Gaza toll 1,130

Israeli helicopters early Tuesday bombed the home of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in western Gaza, which was empty at the time, eyewitnesses and media close to the Islamist movement said. The toll in the coastal enclave in the ongoing offensive has now touched 1,130.

Hamas-affiliated broadcaster al-Aqsa reported that there were no casualties in the attack on Haniyeh’s house, which came amid heavy Israeli bombardments on the Palestinian enclave that caused 43 deaths since midnight while dozens were injured, according to medical sources.

RJD supremo Lalu Prasad’s son, Tejashwi Yadav has sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention in resolving the ongoing row over the aptitude test in the civil service entrance examination.

In a letter dated July 27, Tejashwi Yadav, who is leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal’s (RJD) youth wing, appealed to the government to consider the demands of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) aspirants for scrapping the Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT).

The letter was shared by Lalu Prasad on his Twitter account Tuesday.

A P Capital Decision After Panel’s Report Only—Minister

Andhra Pradesh minister Narayana today said no decision has been taken yet about the new capital for the state.

A decision on new capital would be taken only after the Shivaramakrishnan committee submits its report by August 20, he said.

The State high court would also be established where the new capital would come up. It is not possible to have all 192 government offices at one place, Narayana said.

It was chief minister Chandrababu Naidu’s desire to have at least 25,000 acre of land to develop a new capital, Narayana said.

Etela Assures All Help To Gulf Victims

Telangana finance minister Etela Rajender today assured that the government would extend all possible help to the Gulf victims.

He was speaking at a private function at Kamalapuram in Karimnagar district when some victims of Gulf met the minister and sought his help. Responding to their request, Etela said they have planned to help Gulf victims on par with Kerala state, for which Rs.500 crore would be allocated. He said they discussed the matter in the recently held cabinet meeting and this was one of 43 issues discussed in the meeting.

Al-Qassam Brigades kill 2 Israeli soldiers in Jabaliya, 91 killed since the beginning of the ground operation

Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, said on Monday morning that they had clashed with Israeli troops east of Jabaliya, in the northern Gaza Strip, killing two soldiers and wounding another.

The brigades said in a brief statement that the Israeli Occupation Forces had attacked Jabalya by land and that the alestinian resistance responded firing six mortars at troops and using light and medium weapons. Clashes between the Palestinian resistance and the Israeli army are still ongoing at the moment of reporting.

Indian returns lost purse, money to its rightful owner in UAE

In a noble act, a 36-year-old Indian returned a purse containing 25,000 dirhams (USD 6,800) and other important documents that he found lying on a pavement in the UAE to its rightful owner, an Italian woman.

On a Ramadan evening, Raheel Pericheri was going to the nearest mosque to offer prayers when he came across a small
blue purse lying on a pavement in the emirate’s capital Abu Dhabi.

He was surprised to see several credit cards, Dh500 notes and other documents. Pericheri then took it upon himself to make sure the bag was returned to its rightful owner.

Man shot dead over land dispute in Deoband

A 22-year-old man was today allegedly shot dead shot dead by his neighbour in Saharanpur district over a land dispute, police said here.

Salman was shot by his neighbour Shahjad and two others in Sajilal locality in Deoband area of Saharanpur, they said.

He was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared brougth dead, police said, adding the incident was stated to be fallout of a land dispute.

Kejriwal returns to his Kaushambi residence

Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has finally vacated his Tilak Lane government accomodation and shifted to his old flat in Kaushmambi.

The flat in Girnar Apartment has been alloted to his wife Sunita, who is senior Indian Revenue Service Officer. She had surrendered the accomodation early this year when Kejriwal became the Chief Minister and shifted to Tilak Road.

Interestingly, it is the same “lucky” flat from where Kejriwal chalked out the strategy for the 2013 assembly polls

ICC warn Ali against repeat of Gaza protest

England’s Moeen Ali has been warned by world cricket chiefs not to wear wristbands declaring his support for the people of Gaza again during international matches.

But the International Cricket Council (ICC) said Ali would face no disciplinary action on this occasion after being
warned about his future conduct by match referee David Boon, the former Australia batsman.

Worcestershire all-rounder Ali wore wristbands during the third Test match against India on Monday that read “Save Gaza” and “Free Palestine”, while batting during England’s first innings at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.

Study: 35 per cent in US facing debt collectors

More than 35 per cent of Americans have debts and unpaid bills that have been reported to collection agencies, according to a study released today by the Urban Institute.

These consumers fall behind on credit cards or hospital bills. Their mortgages, auto loans or student debt pile up,
unpaid. Even past-due gym membership fees or cellphone contracts can end up with a collection agency, potentially
hurting credit scores and job prospects, said Caroline Ratcliffe, a senior fellow at the Washington-based think tank.
