Hailing the Japanese government’s step to ease restrictions on its military as “historic”, the US has said the decision will enable the Asian country to significantly increase its contribution to regional and global security and expand its role on the world stage.

“The Obama Administration strongly supports the decision made by Prime Minister Abe and his cabinet,” Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel told reporters.

A 46-year-old Indian-origin computer scientist, who was extradited to the US from India to face trial in a triple murder case, has been sentenced to life for killing his wife and two young children by slashing their throats in 2008.

Lakshminivasa Nerusu was last month found guilty by a jury after less than two hours of deliberations.

“I think you’re most wholly , completely and utterly selfish,“ Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Nanci Grant told Nerusu, as he stood shackled in jail garb, before she sentenced him to life in prison without parole.

Passenger train derails in China

One coach of a passenger train derailed between cities of Changyang and Yichang in central China’s Hubei Province this morning, local railways authorities said.

No casualties were reported. All passengers have been evacuated, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

One compartment of the train en route from Chengdu, capital of southwest China’s Sichuan Province, to Changsha, capital of central China’s Hunan Province, ran off the line at about 7:10 a.M. Local time, it said.

Fire breaks out in Ghaziabad building, several cars gutted

Several cars were gutted in a fire that broke out on Friday afternoon in the basement of a residential building in Indirapuram area in Ghaziabad.

There was no loss of life in the fire that struck the basement of Tower Number 2 of ATS residential society in Nitikhand area of Indirapuram at around 1 pm, a senior fire official said.

As many as 16 fire tenders were rushed to the spot, and firemen were still dousing the flames, Ghaziabad Chief fire officer AP Singh said, adding that more tenders would be required to douse the flames.

Pak violates ceasefire again, open fires at Pindi outpost in J&K

The Pakistani armed forces on Saturday opened fire at Pindi outpost in RS Pura sector of Jammu and Kashmir, as per the reports.

Meanwhile, the Indian troops guarding the border effectively replied with similar calibre weapons.

Although no casualty has been reported as of now, the gun battle between the Indian and Pakistan forces is underway.

ATS spots suspect in CCTV footage, online chats of IM terrorists being tracked

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Saturday reportedly spotted a suspect in a CCTV footage recovered in connection with Thursday’s Pune blast.

The footage shows the suspect parking a bike near Faraskhana police station’s parking lot before the blast occurred.

On the other hand, monitoring of the emails has revealed that online chats were shared between Indian Mujahideen’s terrorists in Karachi before the blasts, as per reports.

Meanwhile, the ATS has formed 10 teams to crack the case in coordination with the district police.

App to register municipal complaints in Delhi

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) is developing a mobile application that will enable citizens to register complaints through their phones, an official said here Friday.

“The corporation is developing a mobile application ‘SDMC Third Eye’ which can be downloaded, through which citizens can easily send complaints, suggestions, related photos, videos of their concerned ward and zone,” Satish Upadhyay, chairman of the standing committee, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), said at a press conference.

Using an ‘experience sampling’ method, researchers from Ohio State University gave people a clicker.

They were were asked to hit one of three buttons on it “sex, food, sleep” every time the thought of one of those things came to mind.

The results study showed that on an average, a man had 19 thoughts about sex in a day.

Vitamin A is involved in reproductive health and growth promotion; helps support healthy skin, immune function, and vision; and has antioxidant properties.

For the study, researchers investigated if avocados could help the body better use and absorb vitamin A from carotene-rich foods when eaten together.

Air India on Friday formally became the 27th member of Star Alliance, opening up its domestic network in the fifth largest aviation market to the global airlines grouping’s passengers the world over.

Air India would add about 400 daily flights and over 40 new destinations in India to the 27-member Alliance network of over 18,500 daily flights to 1,316 airports in 195 countries.

‘Warehousing to entail investments of Rs 16k cr pa for 5 yrs’

Realty brokerage Knight Frank said demand for warehousing is estimated to grow at 9 percent per annum over the next five years and would require investments of up to Rs 16,000 crore each year till 2019.

“As the demand for warehousing grows with the economic expansion and due to anticipated policy changes like the Goods and Services Tax, we estimate demand for warehousing will grow at a CAGR of 9 percent or 104 million square feet per year,” its chief economist and head of research Samantak Das told reporters here.

3 sentenced for kidnapping, murdering 4-year-old

A local court on Saturday sentenced three persons to life imprisonment for abducting and murdering a four-year-old boy.

Additional District Sessions Judge Rajbir Singh on Friday held the three, including the victim’s uncle, guilty for the murder of 4-year-old Sumit six years back.

The judge also imposed a fine of Rs 65,000 each on the three convicts, identified as Pradeep (Sumit’s uncle), Sunil, and Chouta.

According to the prosecution, Sumit was kidnapped on February 7, 2008 from Naya Gano area in Shamli district.

Tata Motors global sales down 10.4% in June

Tata Motors on Friday reported a 10.46 percent decline in global sales, including that of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), to 75,623 units in June.

The company had sold 84,458 units in the same month last year.

In the passenger vehicles category, the global sales last month were at 44,239 units, as against 42,881 units in June 2013, up 3.16 percent, Tata Motors said in a statement.

Sales of luxury brand Jaguar Land Rover rose 17.96 per cent to 36,021 units in June, compared to 30,536 units in the same month last year.

Georgia State University researchers found that some, but not all, cognitive, or mental, abilities, in chimpanzees depend significantly on the genes they inherit.

“Intelligence runs in families,” said Dr William Hopkins, professor in the Center for Behavioral Neuroscience at Georgia State and research scientist in the Yerkes National Primate Research Center at Emory University.
