NDA Ministers to occupy new bungalows by month-end

Several new Union Ministers will be able to move in to their allotted bungalows by the end of this month after repair work is completed in about 25 houses vacated by previous occupants.

“Some 25 bungalows occupied by UPA Ministers have been vacated and handed over to us. It will take about two-three weeks to complete the ongoing repair work including white wash and then these will be ready for new allottees to occupy,” CPWD Director General VK Gupta said here on Saturday.

Naidu Vows To Work As Laborer To Develop AP

AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu today reiterated that he would work

as a laborer for development of the State.

Speaking at a felicitation function organized by APNGOs at Vijayawada, Naidu appreciated the role of

APNGOs during agitation for united Andhra Pradesh. He assured the employees that their problems

would be solved in a phased manner and the government would have meeting with employees’

associations once three months. “If we failed to work hardly, future generation would have to face

problems”, he added.

2014 World Cup most polluted in history

FIFA statistics have showed that the 2014 World Cup in Brazil was the most polluted in history with the emission of 2.72 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.

This amount is thrice than that emitted in the 2006 edition. Eighty-four percent of the carbon dioxide emissions in Brazil were attributed to transportation between host cities, reports Efe.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) said the emissions during the World Cup was equal to the pollution by 534,000 trucks operating for one year.

UN military observer group redundant: Congress

The Congress Sunday said the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) has become redundant and has no purpose to serve any further in observing ceasefire violations on Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.

The party noted that the mandate of UNMOGIP lapsed with the signing of the Shimla agreement in 1972 when India and Pakistan agreed to settle all differences bilaterally by peaceful dialogue.

“However, since the UN had continued to post personnel, India continued with courtesies provided as a cooperative member of the UN,” a party release said.

Hyderabad, July 12 (NSS): Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao today criticized the Congress leaders for shedding “crocodile tears” with regard to Polavaram Bill. Irregularities in govt schools will be curbed and punished : MINISTER

NSS): Telangana Education Minister Jagadishwar Reddy on Saturday made it clear that irregularities in the government-run schools would be curbed; simultaneously quality of education would also be improved.

Speaking at a “Meet-the-Press” organized in the Press Club here, the Minister said he would strive to solve the issues in the education system in the State. “Education to all is our ultimate dream”, he added. The Government would maintain zero tolerance on the unethical practices of private and corporate educational institutions, he warned.

British Indian jailed for raping 12-year-old girl

A British Indian man has been jailed for over ten years for raping a 12-year-old girl in Britain last year, a media report said.

Vinayak Rama, 29, along with his accomplice Reynold Carvalho, 29, were given substantial jail terms by the Leicester Crown Court Saturday for raping a “vulnerable girl” after taking her in their car to the Belgrave neighbourhood of Leicester in Britain’s east Midlands on Oct 1 last year, the Leicester Mercury reported.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will leave on Sunday for Brazil to attend the five-nation summit of BRICS nations on July 14 and 15. The summit is expected to finalise the setting up of a development bank and seek reforms of the international financial organisations . Two accused escape as police team attacked in Srinagar

Two people arrested in connection with a landmine blast managed to escape while six members of the police team escorting them were injured after being attacked by a stone pelting mob here Saturday, police said.

UNIFIL condemns firing of rockets into Israel from Lebanon

The United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said Friday’s launching of three rockets into northern Israel from Lebanon is a serious violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and clearly aims at destabilising the situation in the region.

Paolo Serra, Commander General of the UNIFIL, in a statement Saturday called for “restraint in the face of all kinds of provocation” by the two neighbours, Xinhua reported Saturday.

“The situation has been contained and calm prevailed and all the concerned parties have confirmed their commitment to the resolution 1701,” Serra added.

Army chief arrives in Kashmir on farewell visit

Indian army chief Gen. Bikram Singh arrived here on a farewell visit Saturday, a defence statement said.

“General Bikram Singh, chief of the army staff (COAS) and chairman chiefs of staff committee, arrived in Srinagar today for a farewell visit to the strategically important Chinar Corps,” it said.

It said it was “like homecoming” for Gen. Singh, who had commanded the corps from Nov 25, 2008 to Nov 30, 2009.

The army chief was received by northern army commander Lt. Gen. D.S. Hooda and Chinar Corps commander Lt.Gen. Subrata Saha.

Over 100 arrested in China for World Cup gambling

As many as 108 suspects were arrested in China for football gambling during the ongoing 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament, the ministry of public security (MPS) said Saturday.

Over 18 billion yuan ($2.88 billion) were involved in the gambling, Xinhua reported citing MPS as saying.

Police found an overseas gambling website which organised gambling activities in China and was developing Chinese agents since May this year.

The football gambling section of the website has been found to be popular during the World Cup, the MPS said.

West Godavari: Two kids die in wall collapse

Two children died in a wall collapse at Chinamiram village of West Godavari district today, police said.

Rani (5) and Somesh (3) were asleep alongwith their parents when a wall of the house collapsed. The parents, identified as Lachanna and Manga, both daily wage labourers, too were injured.

In East Godavari district, a car collided with a truck in Tuni mandal, killing two persons on the spot. Their identities were not known yet, police said.
