NDMC starts tiffin service

The NDMC said Sunday it has started a tiffin service to provide nutritious food cooked by trained women from low income families.

The highlights of the scheme are high standards of hygiene, nutritional value and low price, NDMC chairman Jalaj Shrivastava said.

Each food packet has dal, rice, vegetable and chapatis and costs Rs.40.

Initially around 30 women are engaged in the pilot project called Urja, now open only to the staff of the New Delhi Municipal Council. It will be later extended to nearby offices.

Chilean government has officially confirmed that flying saucer pictured in April, 2013 is a real UFO.

The government of the country declared it to be genuine UFO because no other explanation like clouds, aircraft, weather phenomena or drones could be placed in by the experts, The Daily Star reported.

The mystery object was described as a “flattened disc of brilliant color with a diameter of five to ten meters (16 to 32 feet)” by the workers.

Data storage tech 1,000 times faster than before

With a new technology called ‘spin current’, researchers have accelerated writing speeds on computer hard drives by 1,000 times.

The researchers used spin current to change the magnetisation instead of the ‘write head’ currently in use.

“The number of bits has been growing rapidly for many years, but the write speed has hardly increased. There is a need for a new data storage technology,” said Sjors Schellekens from the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands.

Cyberabad Police have arrested a Nigerian national from Mumbai for allegedly cheating a city resident to the tune of Rs 11 lakh.

The Cyber Crime Police of Cyberabad arrested Israel Chimezie alias Toney Maxwell from a flat in Mumbai, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crimes) Janaki Sharmila said today.

On April 11, one S Vinod Kumar, a resident of Nacharam here, approached Cyber Crime Police stating that in January this year an unknown phone caller from Ghana told him that his company required some specific liquid substance that is used in the production of animal vaccines.

Funds sanctioned for repair and renovation of Masajid and Eidgahs

Government has decided to allocate Rs. 50 lakh to each district for construction, repair, and whitewash and to cater to other basic necessities of the Masajids and Eidgahs.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao directed Secretary Minority Welfare and other district collectors to survey the masajid and eidgahs of the respective districts and submit the report of their requirement. Collectors were asked to prefer masajid whose revenue is less and which lack basic facilities.

In the first phase, the government sanctioned Rs. 30 lakh to each of the 9 districts and Rs. 9 lakh to Adilabad.

Court acquits man of charges of raping,forcibly marrying woman

A man, accused of raping a woman and forcibly marrying her by threatening to post her obscene pictures on social networking sites, has been freed by a Delhi court.

The court acquitted the Delhi resident as the woman retracted from her earlier statement and was declared hostile.

“Since the prosecutrix has not supported the case of the prosecution and there being no other eyewitness to the incident, it was found futile to carry on trial of the case any further,” Additional Sessions Judge Virender Bhatt said.

North Korean news reports fake WC final with Portugal

A video news report by the secretive country’s state-controlled media told its North Korea football fans that its national team will play Portugal in World Cup final.

The report stated that the team had done so in style by beating Japan 7-0, USA 4-0 and China 2-0, Metro.co.uk reported.

The video showed highlights from old matches and even showed leader Kim Jong-un appearing on a screen in one of Brazil’s fan zones, much to the delight of a cheering crowd.

Toilets for women: Govt to rope in PSUs

As part of efforts to ensure safety of women, public sector units (PSUs) are being roped in to build toilets, a priority area for NDA government, Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi has said.

“We are getting hold of people, the PSUs to come and build toilets (for use by women). It is a priority of this government,” she told PTI on the sidelines of a function here.

Asked if PSUs were being asked to pitch in across the country, she said, “Yes”, adding, it was part of measures to ensure women’s safety and the specifics were being worked out.

Shoumik Guha, a consumer, told ANI, “Rates have increased because of multiple factors. However, the government should try to control the prices. 77 militants killed within day in Afghanistan

At least 77 Taliban militants were killed in army operations in Afghanistan since early Saturday, defence ministry said Sunday.

“Afghan National Army (ANA) conducted several security operations in Laghman, Ghazni and Helmand provinces over the past 24 hours, killing 77 armed militants and injuring several other militants,” Xinhua reported citing the ministry.

The army defused 28 roadside bombs and landmines besides seizing weapons and ammunition.

Three soldiers also died following separate roadside bombings over the same period, the statement noted.IANS

“Our gut contains ten times more bacterial cells than there are human cells in our body,” said Lynn Bry from Brigham and Women’s Hospital in the US.

“The behaviour of these complex bacterial ecosystems when under attack by infection can have a big impact on our health,” Bry added.

Indians suffer loss of Rs 13,219 crore due to thefts in 2013, says NCRB data

The year 2013 witnessed theft of valuables worth Rs 13,219 crore, second highest of the decade, as per the data by the National Crime Records Bureau.

The amount recorded is the second highest in the last decade. However, the recovery percentage rate by the police was second lowest.

The police was able to recover stolen articles worth only 1,762 crore from all over the country during the period.

A senior police officer said that the value has gone high mainly because of the increase in prices of various products over the years.

The Delhi High Court has upheld the conviction and sentence of five men for gangrape of a woman after luring her to an isolated building here on the pretext of a job interview.

Justice Mukta Gupta said it was apparent that the woman had been “rendered helpless” and raped by the five persons – Surinder Singh, Dharambir, Manoj Kumar, Kapil Kumar and Prem – “one after the other”.
