One held for issuing fake certificates to students

Owner of a computer training institute was arrested on charge of issuing forged certificates to students on payment of cash in Odisha’s Malkangiri district, police said today.

Based on an FIR lodged by an aggrieved student, police swung into action on July 8 and took Siba Prasad Padhi into custody and seized several documents, computers and scanners from his possession, Inspector-In-Charge of Malkangiri police station, Raj Kishore Dash said.

BJP feels Modi’s participation in BRICS summit will have good impact

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders here on Sunday expressed confidence over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Brazil to attend the Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) summit.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said, “We will place our views effectively under Modi’s leadership, we can expect a positive outcome from his visit.”

Similarly, BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi added, “This will have a great impact and prove to be very beneficial for India.”

Earlier today, Modi had left to attend the BRICS summit in Brazil.

Protest outside Israel embassy in Delhi in solidarity with Gaza

“In pain we are with you Gaza”, chanted the protesters who were gathered outside the embassy of Israel in New Delhi. Flanked by nonchalant policemen, men, women and many foreigners were present in front of the Israel embassy to register their protest against what they called a “Zionist massacre”.

Ali Javed is a 60-year-old professor of Urdu in Delhi University. Dressed in a dark blue kurta, he braved the searing heat to register his protest against what he believed to be the most unfortunate case of human rights violation.

Two Maoists arrested by police from Jamui in Bihar

Police arrested two Maoists with arms and ammunition in the red corridor of Jamui district in Bihar on Sunday.

Acting on a tip-off, Police launched a joint operation with India’s paramilitary Central reserved Police force (CRPF) which continued for about an hour.

Two red rebels were arrested while others fled amid exchange of fire.

Superintendent of Police, Upendra Kumar Singh, said that along with the arrest of two rebels, arms were also recovered.

NCP MLA Deepak Kesarkar quits, to join Shiv Sena

NCP MLA from Sawantwadi, Deepak Kesarkar, whose diatribe against state minister and Congress strongman Narayan Rane had caused a huge embarrassment to top party leadership in the run-up to Lok Sabha polls, today announced his decision to cross over to Shiv Sena ahead of upcoming Assembly elections.

Kesarkar said he was ready to contest from any part of Sindhudurg district if Shiv Sena asks him to.

While addressing reporters here, the MLA said he cannot put up with Rane and is quitting the NCP in protest against his party and the Congress deciding to face polls together in alliance.

Iraq’s new parliament convened Sunday in what is considered to be a key step to starting the government formation process and helping avoid a possible split-up amid continuous sectarian clashes.

Out of the 328 members in the Iraqi parliament, 233 members attended the session, which was chaired by the acting speaker Mahdi al-Hafidh, Xinhua reported.

Toll rises to 159 in Israeli air strikes in Gaza

The deaths of Palestinians in the Israeli air strikes in the Gaza Strip climbed to 159 Sunday, officials said.

The operations began July 8. Israel said Palestinian militants fired about 90 rockets from the Gaza Strip into its territory Saturday, BBC reported.

Seventeen members of one family died in an Israeli missile strike Saturday night.

Israel said it was targeting Hamas militants and facilities, including the homes of senior operatives. However, the UN has estimated that 77 percent of the people killed in Gaza have been civilians.

Sudarshan Patnaik creates sand art for FIFA World Cup final

As the final of FIFA World Cup 2014 is just some hours away, famed sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik created a representative sand sculpture of the cup at a beach in Puri.

The FIFA World Cup final will be played today between Argentina and Germany.

Patnaik created an eight feet high sand sculpture of the World Cup trophy along with the national flags of the two finalists and the faces of two captains, Lionel Messi of Argentina and Philipp Lahm of Germany, with a message “Goal for Gold Cup”.

Security Council calls for Israeli-Palestinian ceasefire

The UN Security Council has called for a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinians and the protection of civilians.

In a statement read out to the press by Rwanda’s UN Ambassador Eugene Richard Gasana, a temporary member of the 15-member Security Council, the UNSC expressed serious concern about the crisis and the protection and welfare of civilians on both sides.

Haj pilgrims advised to take their medicines along

AP State Haj Committee Special Officer Prof S A Shukoor advised the pilgrims to take along with them sufficient stock of medicines being used by them for various ailments. He said that the prescription letters of the physicians should also be carried along.

Family dispute leads to suicide

In an incident occurred at Rajendranagar, 28-year-old Mohammed Akber, who was a private employee committed suicide. He got married one year ago. Four month after his marriage, marital disputes arose. Dejected over this Akbar poured Kerosene over his body and set himself ablaze. He died while undergoing treatment. Police is investigating the case.

Fruit Pizza

Ingredients:

1 (18 oz) Sugar Cookie Dough (package refrigerated)

1 (8 oz) package Cream Cheese (softened)

1/3 cup Sugar

½ tsp Vanilla Extract

4 cups fresh Fruits (sliced)

¼ cup Orange Marmalade

1 tbsp Orange Juice

Method:

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Slice the dough into 1/8-inch slices; line a (14-inch) pizza pan with slices and press to shape into a crust.

Bake for 12 minutes until it turns light brown. Allow it to cool.

Mix cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla and spread over the cookie crust. Arrange fruits over cream cheese mixture.

Patta Gobhi Pakoda

Ingredients:
½ kg Cabbage (finely chopped)
1 tsp ajwain
½ tsp red chilli powder
½ tsp turmeric powder
200 gms gram flour
Water
Salt to taste
Oil for frying
Chaat masala for garnishing

Procedure:

Take a bowl and mix the gram flour, chilli powder, turmeric powder, ajwain and salt thoroughly. Now add water and make a thick batter. Make sure it isn’t too watery. It has to be consistent enough. Heat some oil in a pan.

Sharks able to cope with climate change

Amid fears that climate change may further contribute to already declining population of sharks, a study has found that sharks in the Arctic may be able to cope with the change.

The researchers studied the fossil of the sand tiger sharks’ teeth found on Banks Island of the Canadian Arctic archipelago.

The teeth date back to the Eocene epoch 38 to 53 million years ago, when the region had a temperate climate and its water had a lower salinity.

It’s an English language “offbeat” entertainer; made by an Indian director with three veteran and two young stars of Bollywood, and topped with one promotional Hindi song – that’s Homi Adajania’s “Finding Fanny”. Arjun Kapoor, who plays one of the five “oddballs” in the movie, believes Indian audiences are ready for such content.

“I was scared and apprehensive to begin with, but as the journey went on, I was more and more happy that I made the brave choice of doing an English film, which is offbeat,” Arjun told IANS during a tete-a-tete here.
