Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy and party MP Bandaru Dattatreya today condoled the death of veteran VHP leader Acharya Giriraj Kishore.

Observing that the late leader dedicated his life in the service of the nation, they said he is an inspiration to the younger generation.

Kishore (94), who was actively associated with the Ram temple movement, died in New Delhi last evening following prolonged illness.

Hindu bodies activists demand arrest of ‘naga sadhu’ attackers

Tension prevailed here in wake of an alleged assault on a “naga sadhu” by some persons, triggering a protest by activists belonging to Hindu bodies today who demanded immediate arrest of the attackers.

The activists from Shiv Sena and All India Hindu Suraksha Samiti took out a protest march in the city, demanding immediate arrest of the assailants.

Farm loan rescheduling in AP, Telangana yet to get RBI nod

The Reserve Bank of India is yet to give its approval for the proposed rescheduling of farm loans in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, its Deputy Governor R Gandhi said here today.

Contrary to claims made by the Andhra Pradesh government that RBI had agreed to the farm loan rescheduling, Gandhi indicated that there are certain guidelines in place for the rescheduling of farm loans.

He said discussions are still going on with respective state governments, which are yet to submit full details to the central bank with regard to the rescheduling.

Swaminathan, Saina named ICRISAT ambassadors

The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) has named eminent agricultural scientist M.S. Swaminathan and badminton star Saina Nehwal its ambassadors of goodwill.

ICRISAT Director General William Dar conferred the recognition on them at a ceremony held Monday at the ICRISAT global headquarters at Patancheru near here.

They agreed to champion the ICRISAT’s mission to make a difference by promoting science-based agricultural solutions in the fight against poverty, hunger, malnutrition and environmental degradation in the dryland tropics of the world.

Three IAS officers join GHMC

GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar has introduced three IAS officers who have joined in GHMC on Monday.

The Commissioner said all the three officers are well versed in their subject and served in various capacities in the government. He said that he has requested Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for which the Government has placed three IAS officers to the GHMC on priority. With these officers now the GHMC will have to work more effectively for the development of the city, he said.

India’s inflation eases; relief for Modi government

India’s wholesale price-based inflation fell to a four-month low of 5.43 percent in June, while retail inflation declined to the lowest level since January 2012 on the back of moderation in food prices, providing much needed relief to the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The country’s key inflation based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) was recorded at 6.01 percent in May. The WPI inflation eased in June on the back of moderation in food prices, according to data released by the commerce ministry Monday.

T-Govt firm on free KG-PG education: Etela

Finance Minister Etela Rajender on Monday reiterated that the TRS Government was committed to fulfill its promise of providing free KG-PG education to all in Telangana.

Speaking on the occasion of a book release event held by the TRS Students’ wing here, Etela said that the government was coming out with a comprehensive plan to implement the scheme. He said that the government would soon elaborate on as to how it intends to impart standard education to all students in the State.

Non-bailable warrants against BJP MPs in Ayodhya demolition

A local court issued non-bailable warrants against six persons, including BJP MPs Sakshi Mahraj and Brij Bhushan Saran Singh, accused in the Ayodhya disputed structure demolition case.

Special judge (Ayodhya prakaran/CBI) Shashi Mauli Tewari passed this order as neither these accused nor their counsels appeared before the court at the time of hearing today.

The court had earlier allowed their appearance in the court also through their counsels.

Mahindra bike MGP3O claimed the best result yet and a second podium finish in a row in the Moto3 German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring here.

South African Brad Binder, riding for Ambrogio Racing, put his customer Mahindra in the fight for the win throughout the 27-lap race and crossed the line second, just 0.180 seconds behind victor Jack Miller on the KTM.

However, it was a cruel race for Mahindra’s own rider Miguel Oliveira Sunday. The Portuguese, who finished third two weeks ago at Assen, had qualified 19th after rain disrupted the session before he had completed his fast run.

Government not involved in Saeed-Vaidik meet: Javadekar

Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar Monday said the government had nothing to do with the meeting in Lahore between yoga guru Ramdev’s aide Ved Prakash Vaidik and 2008 Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed.

“The demand for a statement from the government on this is politicisation of terrorism. We had nothing to do with the meeting,” Javadekar said.

“The Congress should not forget that its minister was calling him Hafiz Saeed ‘sahab’. When Yasin Malik was fasting with Hafiz Saeed under their (Congress’) tenure, no action was taken,” he said.

20 injured in Argentina clash after World Cup defeat

At least 20 people were hurt in a clash with police in Argentina after its 1-0 loss to Germany in the soccer World Cup final in Brazil.

At least 30 people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Despite Argentina’s defeat, thousands of fans had gathered near the Obelisk monument in Argentina’s capital here to celebrate their team reaching the final, but what began as a peaceful celebration ended up in clashes between the police and a small group of fans that attacked two TV news vans.

Girls below 18 victims in most Delhi rapes

Girls below 18 years of age have been the victims in most of the rape cases in the national capital and the majority of such cases have happened in residences or involved friends and acquaintances, says a study by Delhi Police.

The study was undertaken following a rise in rape cases in the national capital.

In a whopping 81.22 percent of the rape cases, women were assaulted inside their homes or at the place of the accused, and around 46 percent of rapes were committed on girls below 18 years, a police official told IANS, citing the study.

Ramdev aide-Saeed meeting rocks Rajya Sabha

Yoga guru Ramdev’s close aide Ved Pratap Vaidik’s meeting with Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed in Lahore created a controversy Monday with the opposition Congress asking if he was sent as an emissary, even as the government and the BJP distanced themselves from the meeting, saying Saeed was a “terrorist”.

There was uproar over the issue in the Rajya Sabha soon after the house met Monday, forcing its adjournment twice.

The Congress asked if Vaidik was sent as an emissary and why proper channels had not been followed.

Woman sets herself ablaze outside Delhi Police headquarters

A 45-year-old woman Monday set herself ablaze outside the Delhi Police headquarters, officials said.

Sushila, a resident of Durga Park in Sagarpur area of west Delhi, poured an inflammable material on her body and set herself on fire at 4.15 p.m. outside the police headquarters situated near the ITO complex in central Delhi.

She was rushed to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) hospital with 50 percent burn injuries.

A police official said the woman along with her daughter had reached the police headquarters to meet senior officials regarding a complaint.

Rousseff denies intention to control football

Brazil President Dilma Rousseff denied any intention by her government to nationalise or control football in her country.

But she demanded reforms to bring an end to their top players leaving the country to play in foreign clubs, reports Efe.

“The government does not want to guide football because the sport cannot be affiliated to the state. We want to contribute to the development of the game. Rely on us in this,” Rousseff tweeted.

Aspar to use Mahindra bikes from 2015 in Moto3

Mahindra Racing has announced that Jorge Martinez’s Aspar team will use their bike — the MGP3O — in the 2015 Moto3 World Championship.

The team will also run two riders on the Mahindra bike in the FIM CEV International Championship.

As a rider, Martínez, nicknamed Aspar, won four World Championships, a feat he has replicated as a team owner since forming his own team in 1992. The team currently operates in all three MotoGP classes.

Teacher availability improving elementary education: Smriti

The additional recruitment of teachers has improved the pupil-teacher ratio in government schools, and this has improved elementary education, parliament was told Monday.

“Teacher availability in elementary education has improved with the additional recruitment of 15.06 lakh teachers funded under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan programme,” Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.

“The national pupil teacher ratio in government and government-aided schools is 28:1 at primary, 31:1 at upper primary and 34:1 at secondary level,” she added.

Barcelona’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has said that controversial Cameroonian midfielder Alex Song has requested permission to leave the Catalan club and also denied any reports of signing Colombia’s star striker James Rodriguez, who was the highest goalscorer in the World Cup.

Indian jailed for birthday party murder in UAE

An Indian expatriate, who stabbed his friend to death in an inebriated state at the latter’s birthday party, has been jailed for 15 years in the UAE, a media report said.

The Indian cook, 29, identified only as S.J., stabbed his fellow countryman, identified only as A.S., after a heated argument during the latter’s birthday party Dec 16 last year, Gulf News reported.

The Dubai Court of First Instance Monday also sentenced S.J. to an additional month in jail for getting drunk.

The man will be deported following the completion of his imprisonment, court ruled.

Cooking cost under mid-day meal scheme increased

The central government has enhanced the per student cooking cost under the Mid Day Meal Scheme (MDMS), HRD Minister Smriti Irani said Monday.

Irani said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha that the “per student cooking cost under the scheme has been enhanced with effect from July 1, 2014”.

The per day cooking cost per child at the primary level in 2013-14 was Rs.3.34 and it has been increased to Rs.3.59 while the cooking cost per child at the upper primary level has been increased from Rs.5 to Rs.5.38.
