BJP corporators today urged the GHMC commissioner to set up check-posts on all entry points to prevent transportation of cows for slaughter.
A delegation of BJP corporators, led by floor leader in GHMC Bangari Prakash submitted a letter to Somesh Kumar, GHMC Commissioner, and urged him to set up check-posts with the help of police to keep a watch on illegal transportation of cows into city for slaughter purpose.

Harish Rao inspects Jala Soudha

Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao this morning made a surprise visit to Jala Soudha, the headquarters of the Irrigation department of Telangana State.
The Minister has examined the attendance register of the employees and reviewed the situation of the file movement in the office. He directed the officials to clear all the pending files within 48 hours. He also suggested that no file should be kept pending for more than two or three days. He also instructed the officials to implement the file tracking system in the office. (NSS)

Insane man sneaks into Assembly building and damages a gate

A mentally ill person this morning partially damaged a gate of Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Assembly and put the police on tenterhooks
Though there was three-level security system at the Legislative Assembly, a person, who was later identified as Ashok Reddy, managed to enter the Assembly premises and damaged the entrance gate. Noticing the incident, the security personnel informed the matter to the police.

Security Council renews UN mission in Cyprus

The UN Security Council (UNSC) Wednesday renewed a UN mission in Cyprus for another six months to continue assisting the parties in the country to bring the division of the island to a comprehensive and durable settlement.

In a unanimously adopted resolution, the 15-member Security Council expressed “its full support for UNFICYP (the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus) and decided “to extend its mandate for a further period ending 31 January 2015”, Xinhua reported.

Few Americans believe US winning fight against terror: Poll

Belief that the US is winning the fight against terrorism has dropped to its lowest level in more than a decade of regular tracking, a poll has found.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that just 27 percent of the likely US voters now believe the US and its allies are winning the fight against terrorism, the lowest level in more than a decade, Xinhua reported.

The figure is down eight points from 35 percent in April and 47 percent a year ago after hitting a high of 62 percent in February 2009 just after President Barack Obama’s inauguration.

G7 warns Russia faces more sanctions

The G7 leaders in a joint statement Wednesday said Russia will face further economic sanctions if it continued to support rebels in Ukraine.

The warning came after the EU added eight more Russians to its sanctions.

The G7 nations of economic powers, comprising the US, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Britain, also said that Russia had undermined “Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence”, BBC reported.

Earlier, describing new US and EU sanctions as “destructive and short-sighted”, Russia said they would lead to higher energy prices in Europe.

UPSC protestors torch buses, police booth in Delhi

Civil service aspirants Wednesday night clashed with police and burnt down two buses and a police booth during their continued protest here demanding scrapping of the aptitude test from the entrance examination, police said.

Around 400-500 aspirants took out a candle march in Mukherjee Nagar area in north Delhi. They were walking towards the Bara Hindu Rao Hospital, when police tried to stop them.

The aspirants started pelting stones at the police personnel, who resorted to a baton charge, injuring many students.

Andhra Pradesh NRI Affairs Minister Dr Palle Raghunatha Reddy on Wednesday requested the Centre to ensure safe return of migrants hailing from Andhra Pradesh from the civil war-hit Libya.

“Many persons from Andhra Pradesh, in particular from Cement Nagar in Kurnool District, had migrated to Libya in search of livelihood and they got stranded in the ongoing Civil War in Libya. The Andhra Pradesh workers were migrated to Libya on work visa two years ago and their permit is said to be expired soon,” Dr Palle said in his letter to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

Gas cylinder blast victim dies at OGH

A 50-year-old woman, who was injured due to cylinder blast at her residence, succumbed at the Osmania General Hospital on Wednesday.

According to Chaderghat police, the deceased, Naseem Sultana, suffered severe injuries after the gas cylinder blast at her residence in Osmanpura on July 15. She was admitted to the OGH where she died today morning.

Two killed in hit-and-run accidents

Two persons were killed in separate cases of hit-and-run road accidents in the city.

A 21-year-old boy, Ahmed Mehdi, suffered grievous injuries after he was hit by an unidentified vehicle in the early hours of Tuesday. He had left his home in Chanchalguda on Monday evening for Eid shopping. However, he met with the accident in the early hours in the Mir Chowk police limits. He was admitted to the Osmania General Hospital where he succumbed on Wednesday morning.

In a bid to strengthen AAP’s support base in the national capital, party’s National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal will address a rally of auto drivers at the Ramlila Maidan here tomorrow.

The AAP leader had addressed a similar rally of e-rickhsaw drivers last month.

Shia cleric meets Akhilesh, seeks fulfilment of six demands

Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawwad today met UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and gave him 48 hours to fulfil his six demands, including bringing to book policemen who allegedly used force on protesters on July 26 and keeping corrupt persons at bay from the Shia Waqf Board.

If the UP government failed to fulfil his demands within 48 hours, a “state-wide protest will be launched,” he said.

“During the meeting with the CM, I have asked him to ensure that corrupt persons are kept at bay from Shia Central Waqf Board elections.

17 Palestinians killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza market

At least 17 Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes at an overcrowded market in Gaza Wednesday after Hamas rejected an Israeli four-hour truce offer, a media report said.

As many as 160 people were injured, many of them critically, when Israeli tanks kept shelling the market in Shejaiya area, despite the presence of paramedics and journalists there, Xinhua quoted medics and witnesses as saying.

The market was overcrowded with people after Israel earlier announced a four-hour humanitarian ceasefire, which, however, was rejected by Hamas.

Dubai, European airlines divert flights over Iraq

European and Dubai-based airlines have begun re-routing flights over Iraqi airspace as a security precaution, though Iraq says its skies are safe.

An Emirates Airline spokesperson in Dubai told The Associated Press on Monday it will divert planes that use Iraqi airspace. A number of European carriers, including Virgin Atlantic, KLM and Air France also say they will do the same.

This follows the crash of a Malaysia Airlines flight over rebel-held Ukraine.
