Omar orders inquiry into Jammu hotel fire

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today ordered an inquiry into the fire incident in a Jammu hotel that left four persons dead and several injured.

“Deputy Commissioner Jammu has been ordered to enquire into the circumstances that caused the fire and to ascertain responsibility, if any, for the same,” Omar wrote on microblogging site Twitter.

At least four persons were killed and over a dozen suffered burn injuries in a fire in a hotel in Jammu in the wee hours of the day.

FDI hike in defence to boost production: HAL

Prospects of an increase in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the defence sector would enhance production and generate employment, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd chairman R.K. Tyagi said Saturday.

“With the possibility of increase in FDI limit in defence sector, production activity will get a boost in India,” he said at a vendors meet here.

1 1/2 tsp jeera powder
1/2 tsp shahjeera(black cumin seeds)
4 green chillies-slit lengthwise
1 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp ginger paste
1 1/2 tsp garlic paste
1 1/2 tbsp ground paste of(2 tsp poppy seeds + 8 cashewnuts)
few curry leaves(optional)
few coriander leaves
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp refined oil
2 tsp ghee
150 ml water

Ingredients

4 – boiled eggs
1 cup – green peas
2 – tomato, medium
2 – onion, medium
10 cloves – garlic
a small piece – ginger
250 ml – full cream milk
kitchen king masala 1 tbsp – salt
turmeric & chilly powder according to taste
Directions
Grind onion, garlic & ginger.
Fry them in hot oil till light brown.
Add peas, salt, turmeric & chilli powder & fry for 3 minutes.
Then add tomato paste, fry till the oil is separated.
Add 250gm full cream milk & cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring continuously.
Now add boiled egg into this mixture & kitchen king masala too.

Big B, Aamir to launch Dilip Kumar’s biography

Iconic veteran actor Dilip Kumar’s long-awaited biography “Substance and Shadow”, will be launched here June 9 in the presence of the thespian’s wife Saira Banu as well as Bollywood stars Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan.

The biography, which was earlier scheduled to be released on Dilip Kumar’s 91st birthday in December last year, is penned by author Uday Tara Nayar, who is also a close family friend of the Bollywood thespian.

Singing legend Lata Mangeshkar is also likely to be present at the momentous occasion, said a statement Saturday.

EC frames ”paid news” charges against ex-Maharashtra CM Chavan

The Election Commission (EC) has framed five specific charges against former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan in an alleged ”paid news” case. The EC asked complainants in the case to furnish all evidence in the form of affidavits to the poll panel by June 4. It has also asked Chavan to produce evidence as rebuttal to evidence produced by the complainants by June 9.

Kamal Nath appointed Protem Speaker of Lok Sabha

Former Parliamentary Affairs Minister and senior Congress leader Kamal Nath has been appointed as the Protem Speaker in the new Lok Sabha.

A notification issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat said President Pranab Mukherjee has appointed him to perform the duties of the Speaker.

The Narendra Modi government had recently conveyed its recommendation to Mukherjee to appoint Nath, who is the senior most member of the Lower House, as Protem Speaker.

Man arrested for raping Dalit minor girl in Punjab

A man was arrested in Gurdaspur on Saturday for allegedly raping a 13-year-old Dalit girl, police said .

The accused was identified as Vicky, a resident of Shahabad village.

The victim’s mother had alleged in a complaint that her minor daughter was kidnapped by Vicky on May 12 from outside her school. He then took her to his maternal aunt’s house in Batala and raped her, police said.

Tytler appears in court in defamation case

Congress leader Jagdish Tytler Saturday appeared in a court here in connection with a defamation case filed against him by senior advocate H.S. Phoolka, who is appearing for victims in a case of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Tytler appeared before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Gaurav Rao.

Phoolka had filed the defamation case alleging that the Congress leader made a derogatory remark about him in a news programme aired on a private news channel Sep 7, 2004.

Obama to unveil norms to reduce carbon pollution

Aimed at reducing dangerous carbon pollution, US President Barack Obama today said he would unveil a new set of environmental guidelines that would build a low-carbon, clean energy economy.

In his weekly address to the nation, Obama discussed new actions by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to cut hazardous carbon pollution, a plan that builds on the efforts already taken by many states, cities and companies.

All GOMs, EGOMs abolished

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday decided to abolish all the 30 ministerial groups to bring more accountability and faster decision making among his colleagues who head the various ministries and departments.

There are currently nine empowered groups of ministers (EGOMs) and 21 groups of ministers (GOMs), which were set up to take decisions on various matters before bringing them for the cabinet’s consideration.

“This would expedite the process of decision making and usher in greater accountability in the system,” an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said.

UP government ready for CBI probe into Badaun incident

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Saturday said his government was okay with the demand for a CBI probe by the family of the two girls gang raped and killed in Badaun district Thursday.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function here, he said the government will soon refer the matter to the investigating agency.

Meanwhile, the fifth accused in the case has also been arrested, officials said. The other four were arrested Friday.

Cases have been registered against two unidentified people.

HC stops TV channels from showing Salman’s Hit-and-Run case

Television channels have been restrained by the Bombay high Court from telecasting any programme on the hit and run case involving actor Salman Khan or publishing its contents on the Internet.

The order was passed by Justice S C Gupte yesterday on Salman’s application pleading that allegations made in the shows were defamatory and sought to “dramatise and sensationalise” the case in which he is being prosecuted.

The programme was first shown on May 21 on Headlines Today and its contents were submitted before the High court in a CD.

Modi meets BJP general secretaries

A day after reviewing the security for Indian consulate in Herat, Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh on Saturday met Afghan President Hamid Karzai and the two Presidential candidates here.

Singh, who flew to Herat yesterday to review the situation following the May 23 attack on Indian consulate, held meetings with Karzai and Presidential candidates Abdullah Abdullah and Ashraf Ghani in the Afghan capital where they discussed key issues, including security of Indian assets in the country.

Sulabh offers help to centre in cleaning Ganga

Sulabh International founder Bindeshwari Pathak Saturday offered his organisation’s indigenous technologies to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government for cleaning Ganga river.

“If the central government headed by Modi wants to take my service and Sulabh’s indigenous technologies to clean river Ganga and to set up toilets for all, I am ready to help,” Pathak told reporters here.

Sulabh, an NGO, is known for its cost-effective sanitation and liberation of scavengers.

He said the focus of the central government should be sanitation for all.

Yogendra Yadav resigns from AAP committee

Yogendra Yadav of the AAP Saturday resigned from the membership of the party’s political affairs committee taking responsibility for the poor performance in Haryana in the Lok Sabha election, party sources said.

The Aam Aadmi Party failed to bag a single Lok Sabha seat out of the 10 in the state.

Naveen Jaihind, another leader and prominent face of the AAP in Haryana, also resigned from the membership of the national executive committee.

Party leaders said they will try to convince the two leaders to think again on their decision.
