MBA student arrested in false MMS case

An MBA student from Bhatkal, residing in Vasanthnagar in a rented house was arrested by the Cyber police on the charge of allegedly circulating anti-modi MMS here on May 25.

The 24 year old accused, Syed Waqas was working as an intern in a private company was staying in Bangalore along with four of his friends who are pursuing MBA and CA courses. Though Osama Alamgar, Rehmatulah, Saad Kola and Mushahid were released after questioning, Waqas was taken to Belgaum for further investigation.

US applauds Modi-Sharif meeting but ‘cautiously hopeful’

Applauding the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif, the US has said it was ”cautiously hopeful” about the improvement in the ties between the two neighbours.

“We are cautiously hopeful that that (Modi-Sharif meeting) could be a positive indicator, but we’re also mindful that this will be very important to the dynamic going forward,” a senior Obama administration said when asked about the meeting between the two South Asian leaders in Delhi.

Amway India CEO detained, sent to prison in AP

William Scott Pinckney, The Amway India CEO, , was arrested by the Kurnool police on the charge of cheating and fraud, was remanded in judicial custody till June 10 by a magistrate court at Dhone in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday.

William Scott Pinckney’s petition for bail has been rejected.

Pinckney was detained by a special team from Kurnool in Gurgaon, Haryana, and was shifted to Kurnool on a transit warrant. During the period of custody, he will be held in the Kadapa central prison.

Ananth Kumar: Man known for political adroitness

Ananth Kumar, once considered close to party patriarch LK Advani, is from the RSS stable and is known for his political adroitness with his ears close to the ground.

Toyota launches all new Corolla Altis priced at Rs 11.99 lakh

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) on Tuesday launched an all new version of its premium sedan Corolla Altis priced between Rs 11.99 lakh and Rs 16.89 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The vehicle was unveiled in February at the Auto Expo 2014 and is the 11th generation of the Corolla model. It will have five grades in petrol, priced between Rs 11.99 lakh and Rs 16.89 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Also, there are four grades in diesel, which are priced between Rs 13.07 lakh and Rs 16.68 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the company said in a statement.

Net capital inflows to India to rise sharply in FY’15: Nomura

The net capital inflows to India are likely to increase sharply in FY’15, buoyed by the historic victory of the BJP-led NDA headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, says a Nomura report.

According to the global financial services firm, this historic victory has enthused investor confidence that the government will pursue reforms and policies that will put India back on high growth trajectory over the medium term.

“We expect a USD 25 billion balance of payments surplus in FY’15,” Nomura said in a research note.

Cairns interviewed by Brit police over corruption, fixing investigation: Report

Former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns has reportedly been interviewed by British police in London regarding their investigation into allegations of corruption and match fixing.

Cairns, who has vehemently denied any involvement in match fixing, was also expected to meet with the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) anti- corruption investigators.

According to Stuff.co.nz, Cairns, who left for London on Sunday for speaking with British police, was interviewed earlier in the year in Auckland, although the discussions were not completed then.

Researchers have said that seeing people e-cigarettes increases the urge to smoke among regular combustible cigarettes users.

Study author Andrea King, PhD, professor of psychiatry and behavioral neuroscience at the University of Chicago, said e-cigarette use has increased dramatically over the past few years, so observations and passive exposure will no doubt increase as well.

To investigate, King and her team recruited 60 young adult smokers. Participants in the study were told they were being tested on their responses to a variety of social interactions.
