India, Saudi work on modalities for hiring domestic workers

India and Saudi Arabia will discuss a legal framework for over 5,00,000 Indian domestic workers in the gulf kingdom to solve any disputes between them and their employers.

An Indian delegation headed by Ruolkhumlien Buhril, protector general of emigrants, has arrived in Jeddah to discuss the legal formalities of the contractual mode for Indian domestic workers, the Arab News reported.

Indian’s body lying in UAE morgue for two years

The body of an expatriate Indian has been lying in a morgue in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the last two years as his family members refused to claim his body, media reported Wednesday.

Bharat Kumar Behra, 37, from the Indian state of Odisha, died reportedly due to a cardiac arrest in June 2012 and his body has been lying in the morgue of Shaikh Khalifa Hospital in Abu Dhabi ever since, Gulf News reported Wednesday.

Behra was initially reported missing by his family, and his body was identified by an Indian embassy official in October 2013.

NIA team reaches Chennai blast site

A National Investigation Agency (NIA) team has reached the site of the twin blasts in a train in Chennai and is investigating the case, a home ministry official said Thursday.

He said that the ministry has sought a report from the state government on the incident.

One passenger was killed and 14 were injured Thursday when twin blasts occured in two coaches of an express train that had entered the Chennai railway station.

Over 400 India-bound passengers stranded in Saudi Arabia

Over 400 India-bound passengers were stranded for many hours at a Saudi Arabian airport since early Wednesday morning as an Air India flight could not take off due to a technical glitch, a news report said.

Air India Flight AI962 was scheduled to leave the Saudi port city of Jeddah for Kozhikode in the south Indian state of Kerala at 12.15 a.m. Wednesday, but got delayed due to a technical fault that led to passengers waiting for long hours at the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, Saudi Gazette reported Thursday.

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma fined $20,000

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma was fined $20,000 for maintaining a slow over rate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium here Wednesday.

Since it was his first offence of the season under the IPL Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Sharma was fined $20,000, said a statement.

The Indians lost their fifth successive match in the seventh edition of the IPL to the Sunrisers by 15 runs.

Security heightened at Hyderabad rly stns after Chennai bomb blasts

Security was today intensified at major railway stations across Andhra Pradesh in the wake of bomb explosions in a train at Chennai Railway station, Government Railway Police (GRP) said.

“We routinely conduct checks and searches at railway stations, however, following the bomb explosions at Chennai railway station, we have intensified the checking at Secunderabad and Nampally railway stations here besides at Warangal and Kazipet and other railway stations,” Superintendent of Police (Secunderabad Railway Police) Chandrasekhar Reddy said.

Bus turns turtle, 30 injured

Over 30 passengers were injured when a hi-tech luxury bus of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) turned turtle at Dharmasthala. The mishap occurred last evening when the driver lost control over the vehicle while passing through Madyala Chadavu near Dharmasthala.

The fateful passengers were on a tour from Kolar which was sponsored by department of women and child welfare.

A case has been registered against the bus driver at Beltangady police station.

Chennai blasts: Police detain a suspect

Two minor-intensity bomb blasts today rocked the Guwahati-Bangalore Express at the Central Railway station here claiming a woman’s life and leaving 13 others injured, as police detained a suspect in this connection.

A 22-year-old woman passenger, identified as Swathi, bound for Guntur via Vijaywada, was killed in the explosions that occurred in the S4 and S5 coaches in quick succession.
The injured, including two grievously hurt, have been rushed to the state-run Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, where doctors said the injured were “out of danger”.

Woman burns self at Narsingi

A woman committed suicide at Narsingi area. It is said that 60 year old Shushma W/O Ramulu R/O Khanapura was dejected due to illness. She resorted to the extreme step and poured kerosene over her body on April 15 before setting herself ablaze. She died yesterday night. Narsingi police is investigating the case.

Complaint filed against ND Tiwari’s security personnel

A police complaint was lodged against senior Congress leader Narayan Dutt Tiwari’s security personnel by Ujjwala Sharma, the mother of his son Rohit Shekhar, for trying to create a wedge between them for property.

A few days back, Sharma was stopped by security personnel from accompanying the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister following which she lodged a police complaint against the officer on special duty (OSD) Bhawani Bhatt.

The 70-year-old retired lecturer of the Daulat Ram College in New Delhi told a news agency that all she wanted was to look after Tiwari in old age.

UN chief condemns car bombing in Syria

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Wednesday condemned a car bombing in Syrian city of Homs, which left killed 36 people and injured many more.

“These are horrendous acts of terror against innocent civilians,” Xinhua quoted a statement issued by Ban’s spokesperson as saying.

“The secretary-general deeply regrets that the attack in Homs comes in the midst of ongoing cease-fire negotiations over the Old City of Homs and calls on the government and opposition groups to resist provocative attempts at undermining any peace efforts.”

Alert sounded in Kerala after Chennai bomb blasts

An alert has been sounded across Kerala after the twin blasts aboard a train at Chennai railway station Thursday morning, a state minister said.

State Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said there was no need for any anxiety or panic in the state.

“We have sounded an alert in the state and the police are doing their job. Also, the security has been beefed up at all places,” said Chennithala.
