Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate on Thursday said that insulting the people of Andhra Pradesh is in the nature of the Congress.

“It is in the nature of the Congress to insult the people of Andhra and to hate them.

Even former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi had insulted the then chief minister of Andhra in the airport and had made him cry, when he had not even become the prime minister,” said Modi, while addressing a rally in Guntur.

Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Thursday said that he does not hide his relationship like Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi who had been hiding the truth about his marriage and added that the latter is a coward.

“I don’t hide my relationship, which Mr. Modi does. I am not a coward. My relationship is a private matter that I have made public,” said Singh.

“Modi is a coward as he has hidden his wife for years, but I have the courage and conviction to face the consequences for what I have said and done,” he added.

The high treason case against Pervez Musharraf should start immediately, the prosecution has demanded alleging that the former Pakistani military dictator was trying to delay the trial by filing a string of pleas.

The prosecution alleged that Musharraf, 70, was trying to delay the trial and he had filed 21 applications since December last year to prolong the matter.

BJP baring its communal fangs: CPI-M

The CPI-M Thursday accused the BJP of baring its “communal fangs” and called for a non-BJP, non-Congress government from this Lok Sabha election.

“As the final two phases of the elections approach, the RSS/BJP is systematically stoking communal passions,” an editorial in CPI-M journal “People’s Democracy” said.

“This is because the bulk of the seats in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar will go to polls in these phases.

EC warns Beni Prasad against passing remarks on Modi

The Election Commission Thursday warned Congress leader Beni Prasad Verma that he would be restricted from campaigning if he makes any more insulting remarks against BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

Verma, at an election meeting in Kanpur April 20, had alleged that Modi was an absconder who ran away after committing a serious crime at the age of 20 years.

Verma was served notice by the poll panel for his comment.

The commission Thursday called the comment “highly insulting”, and said it was not satisfied with Verma’s clarification.

Exploded bombs being transported to Andhra?

Pak mosque named after man who shot Salman Taseer

A mosque in the suburbs of the Pakistani capital has been named after the person who shot dead former Punjab governor Salman Taseer, drawing strong condemnation from his family and the country’s civil society.

Taseer was shot 27 times and killed by Mumtaz Qadri, a member of his own security detail, at the posh Kohsar Market on January 4, 2011, in Islamabad for standing up for a Christian girl accused of blasphemy.

Qadri has become a divisive figure in Pakistan as he is hailed as a “hero” by some and denounced as murderer by others.

Hoax bomb call to Delhi Metro control room

A hoax bomb call to the Delhi Metro control room triggered panic among officials Thursday morning, a security official said.

Hemendra Singh, spokesperson of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), told IANS that an unidentified caller made a call to the control room claiming the possibility of a bomb in a Metro train.

“The caller made the call from a mobile phone at around 10.15 a.m. today (Thursday). Just after receiving the call, we properly searched different Metro trains and Metro stations but it was found to be a hoax,” Hemendra Singh said.

Modi should be sent to Pakistan: Lalu

RJD chief Lalu Prasad Thursday said BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi should be sent to Pakistan.

Reacting to a remark by a BJP leader that Modi’s opponents should have no place in India and should be sent to the neighbouring country, Lalu Prasad told media persons: “Modi should be sent to Pakistan first…”

He said Bharatiya Janata Party leaders talk about sending his opponents to Pakistan, but, “it is best if we send him there instead”.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief has been hitting out at Modi in the last few days.

BJP, Cong condemn Pak Army Chief’s remark on Kashmir

Setting aside their differences over electoral politics, Congress and BJP today sharply reacted to Pakistan Army Chief’s statement on Kashmir, saying the Valley is an “inalienable part of India”.

“The fact is that Kashmir is an inalienable part of India,” Union Minister and Congress leader Manish Tewari said, rejecting Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif’s claim that Kashmir is a “jugular vein” of Pakistan.

He reminded Pakistan that the entire state was acceded to India by the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir.

India regain No.1 position in T20I rankings

India today climbed up a position and regained its number one ranking in Twenty20 Internationals after the annual update of the ICC Rankings, which was announced here today.

The Indian side has swapped places with ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014 champions, Sri Lanka.

In the past 12 months, India have lost just one T20I against Sri Lanka in the recent ICC WT20 final in Bangladesh, while Sri Lanka have lost four matches.

‘Mature’ Veena Malik returns to Pakistan after four years

Pakistani actress Veena Malik has returned to her home country “as a mature girl” after spending four years abroad.

The 30-year-old star, who married businessman Asad Basheer Khan Khattak in December 2013, said that her time away has increased her love for her country by 1000 times and she wants to do social work in Pakistan now, the Express Tribune reported.

Malik had previously announced that she’s retiring from the film industry.

Hyundai’s May sales down 11.8 percent

Automobile manufacturer Hyundai Motor India Thursday reported a fall of 11.8 percent in its total sales for April at 50,222 units from 56,953 units in the corresponding month of last year.

However, the company said its domestic sales during the month under review grew by 8.8 percent and stood at 35,248 units — up from 32,403 units sold in the corresponding month of 2013.

The company’s exports last month crashed by 39 percent at 14,974 units — down from 24,550 units shipped out during the corresponding month of last year.

Send Narendra Modi to Pakistan: Lalu

Latching on to a Pakistan Minister’s “destabilisation” remark against Narendra Modi, RJD leader Lalu Prasad today said the BJP Prime Ministerial candidate should be sent to Pakistan and then only any question of destabilisation will arise.

Prasad also said that sending Modi to Pakistan was the “best medicine” for him.
“Send Narendra Modi to Pakistan, then only any question of destabilisation will arise. His people talk about sending others to Pakistan, we should send him instead,” Prasad told reporters.

Every third Mumbaikar skips daily bath

Despite rising pollution and unhygienic environment besides hot and humid summer conditions, 32 percent Mumbaikars do not take a bath daily, a new survey has revealed.

This has put them at an enhanced risk of contracting infections and diseases, but Mumbaikars do not take the threats seriously, said the National Integrated Medical Association (NIMA), which carried out the survey among a small sample size of 600.

The survey revealed that, besides skipping a daily bath, a large number of people use only beauty soaps as against anti-bacterial soaps.

India’s GDP growth may rise to 6 percent in 2014-15: Chidambaram

India’s economic growth is likely to accelerate to six percent in the current financial year from below five percent expansion registered in the previous two years, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said Thursday.

“Going forward 2014-15 will be better than 2013-14… I think it’s possible to aim and achieve six percent growth,” Chidambaram said at a media conference here.

However, he clarified that the government has not set any target for economic growth for the current financial year that began April 1.

Youth acquitted of charge of sexually assaulting minor girl

A youth has been acquitted of charges of sexually assaulting and molesting a minor girl after trespassing into her house, by a Delhi court which said the possibility of his false implication cannot be ruled out.
