Ford Motor Thursday nammed Mark Fields its president and chief executive officer.

He will succeed Alan Mulally,68, who will take retirement July 1, Xihua reported.

Three killed in Jammu road accident

Two women and a child were killed when the public transport vehicle they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge in Udhampur district of Jammu region, an official said Friday.

Three people were also injured in the accident that happened late Thursday when the taxi carrying passengers from Ghordi village went out of the driver’s control and slipped 200 feet down into a gorge in Ramnagar area, police said.

The official said the injured have been shifted to a hospital.IANS

Curfew continues in some areas of Srinagar

A curfew imposed in some areas of Srinagar city following protests called by the separatists will continue on Friday, while the movement of patients and other emergencies will be allowed, authorities said.

“A curfew will continue as a preventive measure in Rainawari, Nowhatta, MR Gunj, Safa Kadal, Zadibal and Maisuma areas,” a senior police officer told a news agency.

“The deployed security forces have been instructed to allow the movement of patients and other emergencies in the areas placed under curfew,” the officer added.

Seven civilians were killed after suspected terrorists opened fire in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on late Thursday night, a report said on Friday.

The incident took place at Balapara in Kokrajhar district.

The Army and police have launched a massive combing operation to flush out the terrorists.

Two killed in US jail blast

Two inmates were killed and more than 100 were injured in a suspected gas explosion at a jail in the US state of Florida, authorities said.

The blast that took place at about 11 p.m. Wednesday at the Escambia County Jail also caused the jail building to partially collapse, Xinhua cited from the Escambia County’s official web site.

Authorities have now blocked off roads leading to the jail.

Piyanka to campaign in Amethi tomorrow

Modi’s security stepped up after Chennai blasts

Security was stepped up for BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi ahead of his rallies in Seemandhra today in the wake of twin bomb blasts in a train in Chennai this morning.

“Modi is on the hitlist of terrorists…and in view of the blasts in Chennai today, additional security was provided to him during his visit to the state later in the day.

“Security was also tightened in the areas, where he addressed rallies (in Seemandhra). Certain areas were cordoned off,” a senior police official said.

TV anchor Amrita Rai files hacking complaint

A day after her intimate photographs with Congress leader Digvijaya Singh appeared on a social networking site, TV anchor Amrita Rai Thursday lodged a police complaint, saying her email and social network accounts were hacked.

“She (Rai) complained that her accounts on Gmail, Facebook and Twitter were hacked. The crime branch has registered a case under the IT Act,” a Delhi Police crime branch official said.

Man stabs girl 30 times after marriage proposal rejected

A 39-year-old man killed his female friend by stabbing her 30 times when she turned down his marriage proposal, police said. The accused has been arrested.

The body of 23-year-old Baljeet Kaur was found seven days after her murder at a house the accused had rented in Okhla in southeast Delhi.

“Aneesh confessed to have killed Kaur. In a fit of anger, he stabbed her 30 times with a scissor,” a police official said.

TRAI suggests 8 percent of yearly revenue as licence fee for ISP

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Thursday recommended a uniform licence fee of eight percent on adjusted gross revenue (AGR) for all Internet Service Providers (ISP).

“A uniform licence fee of eight percent of the AGR shall be applicable for all ISP licences. Revenue for the purpose of licence fee for ISP licences shall include all types of revenue from internet services, allowing only those deductions available for pass through charges and taxes/levies as in the case of access services, without any set-off for expenses.

Bengal polls free, fair and peaceful: Election official

The Election Commission’s Special Observer for West Bengal Sudhir Kumar Rakesh Thursday maintained that the April 30 poll exercise was “absolutely free, fair and peaceful”, and said inquiries revealed that allegations of malpractice were incorrect.

Saudi Arabia reports 10 new MERS corona virus cases

Saudi Arabia Thursday reported ten new Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS)corona virus cases, taking the total number of cases to 371, including 107 deaths.

Three of the cases were reported in Riyadh, four in Jeddah and three in Macca, Xinhua reported.

To tackle the spreading of the infection, the country’s health minister has appointed a council of medical advisors with extensive experience in infectious diseases.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon Thursday urged both Israel and Palestine to exercise prudence and avoid unilateral steps that would “diminish the prospects” for the resumption of negotiations.

Two Chinese naval ships on training mission to India

Two Chinese Navy training vessels have embarked on a visit to India and three other Asian countries for training in distant waters.

Zhenghe and Weifang, left Dalian port yesterday for 56 days to visit India, Myanmar, Indonesia and Vietnam.

They were expected to visit Eastern Naval Command at Visakhapatnam.

The fleet, under command of Han Xiaohu, assistant to the Chinese chief of naval operations, is scheduled to cross the Miyako Strait, the Malacca Strait and Sund Strait, covering a total of 12,000 nautical miles, state-run Xinhua reported.
