Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief selector Moin Khan’s unexpected word on the nations ODI captaincy has reportedly left skipper Misbah ul Haq in a tight spot again.

Khan reportedly hinted at the change of the ODI captain for Pakistan, which has left Haq feeling the heat yet again over the subject.

However, Khan, who holds the portfolio of team manager, would coordinate officially with Haq in the coming series and any controversy at this stage can duly affect the working relation between both of them, the Dawn reported.

Ahmed Patel says will quit politics if Modi can prove ‘ridiculous’ friendship claim

Congress Party president Sonia Gandhi’s political secretary Ahmed Patel on Friday said he would quit politics if BJP prime ministeral candidate Narendra Modi could prove that they were both very good friends, and had visited each other’s homes.

Describing Modi’s claim of friendship as “baseless and ridiculous,” Patel was quoted by television channels, as saying: “I totally deny any closeness to a man who is set to divide India. I will leave public life if Modi can prove I have gone to his house or office since he became Chief Minister (of Gujarat).”

Drugs valued at Rs.1 crore seized in Mizoram

Mizoram authorities have seized drugs valued at Rs.1 crore in the state capital and Melbuk village that were smuggled in from Myanmar, an official said Friday.

At least five people, four of them Myanmarese nationals, have been arrested.

“The Special Narcotics Cell of the Mizoram Police seized heroin valued at Rs.3.14 lakh in Aizawl yesterday (Thursday) night. Two Myanmarese – Vannuampuii, 27 and Lalbiaksanga, 25 – were arrested,” a police spokesman told reporters.

Heroin valued at Rs.50,000 was also seized here Wednesday and a 20-year-old Mizo youth was arrested.

18 killed in Syrian suicide car bombings

At least 18 people were killed and 50 were injured Friday in two suicide car bombings in central Syria, a media report said.

A suicide bomber blew up a booby-trapped car in Jidreen town, killing 17 civilians, including 11 children, the official SANA news agency reported.

Another terrorist detonated a car bomb in al-Hmairi town, also in Hama, killing a civilian.

Air France crash expert Jean-Paul Troadec brought in to help find MH370

French Aviation Accident Investigation Bureau president Jean-Paul Troadec has been brought in for his expertise in search for missing Malaysia Airlines’ flight MH370. Troadec was the previous head of the Air France 447 investigation team, who orchestrated the successful search for the black boxes of a crashed Air France passenger jet. Air France Flight 447 was a scheduled long-haul passenger flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris on June 1, 2009. The plane, an Airbus A330, crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, killing all 228 passengers, aircrew and cabin crew aboard.

Govt seek Allahabad HC for snoopgate judge

Decisive to start a probe on Snoopgate, allegations that the Narendra Mod-led Gujarat government had mounted illegitimate surveillance on a woman architect, the Congress-led UPA government may soon approach the Allahabad High Court to seek the services of a sitting judge to head the commission of enquiry.

Dhananjaya Yashwant Chandrachud, the Chief Justice of the Allahabad HC will be requested to nominate a sitting judge from his court.

The news was confirmed by Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde to ET, saying “the process is on… something is happening”.

US to host 2016 Copa America

The US would host the 2016 Copa America June 3-26, officials said.

South American ruling body CONMEBOL, along with the CONCACAF, its counterpart for North and Central America and the Caribbean, made the announcement Thursday, reports Xinhua.

It will be the first time the 100-year-old tournament will be held in North America.

The 2016 edition will mark the 100th anniversary of the tournament and also the foundation of CONMEBOL.

The 2015 and 2019 Copas, which were scheduled to be held in Chile and Brazil respectively, would take place as planned.

Woman raped by father-in-law

A woman was allegedly raped by her father-in-law in Kairana town of Shamli district, police said today.

The accused identified as Yamin raped the victim when her husband was not at home. He also threatened of killing her if she disclosed the matter to anyone, they said.

A case has been registered against the accused, said police.

Toll rises to 12 in Nigerian bomb attack

The Nigerian police said Friday that the toll in an explosion on the outskirts of capital Abuja has risen to 12.

Police spokesman Frank Mba said the blast on Thursday injured 19 people, who are now receiving treatment at hospitals in the city, Xinhua reported.

Mba, who described the number of the causalities as provisional, said an investigation into the explosion was underway.

MH370: Aus, Malaysia and China to meet to discuss next step

Top officials from Malaysia, Australia and China will meet in Canberra next week to decide future course of action in the frustrating search for missing Malaysia Airlines plane, authorities said here today.

Australian search coordinator Air Chief Marshal (retd.) Angus Houston noted that the search will take at least 8-12 months but said they were totally committed to find the plane that went missing with 239 people onboard on March 8.

“We need to continue to search, we owe it to the families,” Houston, who is currently visiting Malaysia, told reporters here.

Woman commits suicide in Rashtrapati Bhavan premises

A woman committed suicide Friday within Rashtrapati Bhavan precincts by hanging herself from a ceiling fan, police said.

The official said that Sazia, 26, was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside a servant’s quarter allotted to her father around 5.30 a.m. Friday by her family members.

“She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead. No suicide note was recovered,” the official added.IANS

40 students fall ill after mid-day meal in Bihar

At least 40 children fell ill Friday after having their mid-day meal at a government school in Bihar’s Rohtas district, officials said. The students are now out of danger.

The children complained of uneasiness after the meals at Katar Middle School, and were admitted at a hospital, a district official said.

“All the children are now safe,” he said. “All of them, except two, were discharged after preliminary treatment at the hospital,” he added.

Samples of the meal have been collected by police for forensic examination.

Man held in Australia for rape, murder of child

Australian police have arrested a 23-year-old man for raping and murdering his two-year-old stepdaughter in a northeastern city of the country, local media reported Friday.

The attack took place April 18 when the man raped the child and punched her several times in the abdomen.

The incident occurred during 20 minutes of the mother’s absence from the house, police sources told local agency AAP.

The child was taken to a hospital in the city of Coffs Harbour, 530 km north of Sydney, where she died after three days.
