Power bills to be static in Delhi till July

The power bills of Delhiites will not go up till July as the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) Friday decided to extend the existing electricity tariff for three months.

The three power distribution companies had sought increase in tariff to adjust their power purchase cost.

However, the DERC decided to extend the existing power tariff, citing delay in submission of Power Purchase Cost Adjustment Charges (PPAC) by the power companies.

Sushma rues decline on quality of poll campaign

BJP leader Sushma Swaraj today rued that the quality of poll campaign had witnessed a fall with personal allegations and counter allegations, in comments which could be seen as directed at own party leaders including Narendra Modi besides those from other parties.

“The elections are warming up and the level of our debate is falling down. The debate should have been on policies, programs and ideology. Unfortunately, it has come down to personal allegations and counter allegations. The language used is harsh and intemperate,” Swaraj said in a tweet.

Saudis get Internet hotline to the king

Saudi citizens can now petition 90-year-old King Abdullah directly and lodge complaints through an Internet site set up at the initiative of the monarch himself.

The portal tawasol.Royalcourt.Gov.Sa, named after the Arabic word for communication, was launched on an experimental basis on Wednesday.

All messages are to be forwarded to the king.

“People will be able to inform the king about any shortcomings in the services offered by government agencies, and to take suitable action for the benefit of all citizens,” the website says.

Lizard found in mid-day meal at Sasaram school, 12 kids fall

Twelve kids fell ill after consuming mid-day meal at a primary school at Katar village in Dehri block today.

Sadar Sub-divisional Officer (SDO) Mohammad Shahid said a doctor was immediately called and the students were treated at the school itself. All of them recovered after some time.

“All kids are safe now. A lizard was found in the ‘daal’ (lentils) given to the kids. The food is provided by an outside supplier. We are probing to nail down the persons responsible for the incident,” said the SDO.

Mother of Tiwari’s son to stay with the leader

Ujjwala Sharma, mother of Rohit Shekhar, the biological son of N D Tiwari, staged a dharna outside the Congress leader’s residence here today after which he reportedly allowed her to stay with him.

Ujjwala staged a dharna in front of Tiwari’s residence at Mall Avenue here with her supporters after not being allowed entry by his Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Bhawani Dutt Bhatt, who said he did not have permission for that. She had staged a dharna yesterday also.

Pak summons Indian diplomat over visa denial to 500 pilgrims

Pakistan today summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner Gopal Baghlay to lodged a protest over denial of visas to 500 Pakistani pilgrims to visit the famed shrine of Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti at Ajmer.

Visits to religious shrines in Pakistan and India are governed under the Bilateral Protocol on Visits to the Religious Shrines, 1974.

Pakistan conveyed its deep disappointment and concern over the denial of visas by the Indian government, a statement released by the Foreign Office said.

Cong demands EC action against Azmi over ‘true Muslim’ remark

Congress today approached the Election Commission against the statement made by Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi that Muslim who don’t vote for his party are not true Muslims.

Magisterial probe ordered into Srinagar youth’s killing

A magisterial probe was Friday ordered into Wednesday’s firing in the Jammu and Kashmir capital in which a youth was killed and three others were injured, officials said.

Srinagar District Magistrate Farooq Ahmad Shah said a magisterial probe has been ordered into the firing in the old city area of Nawa Kadal, in which Bashir Ahmad, son of Muhammad Shafi, a resident of Gratabal Nawa Kadal, was killed.

The probe will be completed and the report submitted within 15 days, he said.

2014 election only about rhetoric, says Jaswant

Expelled BJP leader Jaswant Singh Friday said the ongoing general election was marked by “rhetoric” and it lacked debate on issues of national importance.

“Political parties have lost their moral compass, rhetoric has replaced logic. The level of political discourse has reached an abysmally low point,” the former defence and external affairs minister said during a meet-the-press event here.

Jaswant Singh said the Bharatiya Janata Party has become a one-man party with a “coterie”, though he evaded making any comment on the party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
