UN Security Council meets on Ukraine crisis

As the Security Council convened its second urgent session this week on the situation in Ukraine, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon reiterated his grave concern over the rising tensions in the eastern and southern parts of the former Soviet republic, stressing that a “diplomatic solution is the only way out of this crisis”.

The situation has been deteriorating in Ukraine’s crisis-hit city of Slovyansk, where two Ukrainian military helicopters were shot down overnight and a group of European observers captured April 26 remain in detention.

BJP urges Election Commission to withdraw order against Modi

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has requested the Election Commission to review and withdraw its order against their party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi saying that his interaction with the media after casting vote in Ahmedabad was not pre-planned.

The Gujarat police on Wednesday had filed two FIRs against Modi for delivering a speech from a poll booth and displaying the BJP poll symbol ‘Lotus’ after he cast his vote.

Earlier, the poll body had found Modi to be in violation of the provisions of the Representation of Peoples Act, 1951.

Afghan landslide toll 2,000, site may become massive grave

The toll in Friday’s landslide in Afghanistan has been put at 2,000 by rescue officials, who also said that the site may become a massive grave as the huge rubble is making the recovery of bodies almost impossible.

The incident occurred early Friday when a hill collapsed on a remote village in Aab Bareek area of Argo district in the mountainous province of Badakhshan with Faizabad city as its capital, 315 km northeast of Afghan capital Kabul, Xinhua reported.

The disaster was triggered by the recent heavy rains.

BJP approaches poll panel against Rahul Gandhi

The BJP Saturday asked the Election Commission to file a complaint against Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi for his alleged comments at an election rally in Himachal Pradesh.

The Gandhi scion had in a rally May 1 said that “if the BJP comes to power, peace would be a casualty”.

He had also said in the rally in Solan that “22,000 people lost lives during the five-year NDA rule in various terrorist activities while merely 800 people had been killed in the UPA government’s five-year tenure”.

I’ll won’t be part of Modi government: Rajnath Singh

Rajnath Singh, the President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has said that to avoid two power centers he will not be a part of a future Narendra Modi government at the centre if the NDA was voted to power.

Rajnath Singh, 62-year-old who is a candidate for the Lok Sabha from Lucknow, told in an interview to a news channel, “There cannot be two centres of power.”

A government is run by moral authority and only Narendra Modi has that authority to become the Prime Minister and run the government, he told the channel.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Friday hit back at Narendra Modi for the “56-inch chest” remark alluding to his father and SP supremo Mulayam Singh, saying the BJP prime ministerial candidate is the “biggest liar” with a “56-inch belly”.

“He is the biggest liar in the world. His campaign is based on lies.. he does not have a 56-inch chest but a 56-inch belly,” Yadav said while addressing an election rally at Kaiserganj.

“In politics what is needed is a big heart not a big chest,” he added.

Court asks police to register case against Ramdev

A court here has ordered police to register a case against yoga guru Ramdev and initiate an inquiry against him for his controversial “honeymoon” remark against Rahul Gandhi.

The court of Metropolitan Magistrate gave this order while admitting an Istegasa (legal) complaint by Vijay Rao of Jodhpur on Friday through his counsel MA Rao demanding an FIR against Ramdev and an appropriate action against him for his comments involving the Dalit community.

Ramdev had stoked a controversy last month by stating that, “Rahul goes to Dalits’ houses for honeymoon and picnic.”

BTC area of Assam witness curfew

Gyanendra Tripathy, Home Secretary of Assam said that the death toll in the Bodoland Territorial Council violence had gone up to 23, with the recovery of 12 more bodies from Baksha district on Friday evening.
Earlier, 11 Muslims were reported killed in two attacks.

The state administration has clamped curfew in most of the areas of the BTC which are in a weak position, where incidents of fire-raising and mob violence was reported from Narayanpur and some other pockets.

The violence which was started Thursday night has triggered a mass migration of people from the Muslim villages.

MIM is amused by TRS and Congress

With the MIM deciding to keep its option unbolt on the subject of supporting a party for the formation of the next government in Telangana, both the Telangana Rashtra Samiti and the Congress are taking its support for granted.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday called public broadcaster Prasar Bharti a “Prachar Bharti” of the Congress for perpetually projecting the latter for past ten years and completely wiping out BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi from its coverage.

“Prasar Bharti is Congress’ “Prachar Bharti.” I have been seeing that for the past seven to ten years this has been happening. They have completely blacked out Modi. They only projecting Rahul Gandhi (Congress vice president) and rejecting Modi,” said Naidu.

Union Law Minister Kapil Sibal on Saturday took a dig at Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, and said that his surname stands for ‘Model of Dividing India.’

Sibal further said that BJP leaders and party supporters are spreading morphed pictures on social media as part of their communal propaganda.

He accused BJP leaders of inciting violence in Assam where recent militant attack left over 32 people killed in the state.

New bride burnt to death
(Siasat News): A new bride in Chaderghat accidentally got burnt and died. It is said that Sana, alias Anees Begum, 22, was the wife of one Shafi Khan of Fatima Nagar, Old Malakpet.

They got married just three months back. On April 27, she was busy in her kitchen and during the cooking, she accidentally got burnt. She was immediately shifted to the hospital where she died during the treatment.

Police has registered a case and further investigations are on.

Woman succumbs to burns in old Malakpet

22 year old Anees Begum alias Sana succumbed to burn injuries on Thursday. According to Chaderghat police, Anees Begum a housewife W/O Abdul Shafi Khan R/O Old Malakpet, accidentally caught fire while cooking on stove on April 27 at her residence in old Malakpet. She was rushed to Osmania Hospital where she died on Thursday night.

The couple got married about three months back. Chaderghat police registered a case dead and shifted the body to OGH Mortuary for post-mortem. Deceased body will be handed over to her relatives after autopsy.

Explosion in Tamil Nadu, 1 injured

One person was injured when a suspected country-made bomb exploded in this temple town.

Quoting preliminary reports, police said the explosion occurred near a medical shop.

The injured, said to be an employee of a prominent university here, has been admitted to a hospital.

Police have cordoned off the area. Further investigation is on.

M A Khan to carry out election campaign at Varanasi and Jaunpur

On the direction of Congress High Command, Congress MP Rajya Sabha M A Khan will take part in election campaign at Varanasi and Jaunpur. Sonia Gandhi’s secretary for political affairs Ahmed Patel and Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad have directed M A Khan to take party in party electioneering in Varanasi and Jaunpur.

M A Khan will reach Varanasi on May 5 and will take part in the campaign till May 10. Meanwhile M A Khan said that there is no Modi wave in the country and those who believe in secularism will not support Modi.

TDP accuses YSR Congress chief Jagan of violating poll code

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Saturday alleged that YSR Congress Party president Jaganmohan Reddy violated the model code of conduct by stretching his road show beyond stipulated time limit at Mylavaram town in Krishna district.

AIFF to invite bids for new I-League teams

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) Saturday invited bids from new clubs/entities to participate in the I-League from the 2014-15 season.

The invitation to tender, sets out the details on how the bids are required to be submitted and can be obtained from the AIFF headquarters, Football House, from May 6.

The pre-bid meeting is scheduled to be held May 15 and the last day for submission of bids is June 2.
