Man arrested for making fake passport

A CBI Special court today remanded a person to 15 days judicial custody for allegedly making a fake passport and trying to travel to the US from Delhi.

Following a complaint from Passport department officials, a case was registered against J Samson, an Indian national, on April 29.

He was arrested here today and produced before the judge who remanded him, CBI police said.

Beni demands fast track courts for Babri demo’n, Gujarat riots

Welcoming Centre’s decision to constitute a judicial commission to probe ‘snoopgate’ issue, Union minister Beni Prasad Verma today demanded fast track courts to punish those guilty of demolishing disputed structure in Ayodhya and the post Godhra riots.

“After the demolition of Babri mosque, 22 years have passed. Godhra took place 12 years ago but not a single accused in these cases has been punished. Fast track courts should be constituted to ensure punishment of those found guilty,” Verma said.

Election officials have so far seized unaccounted cash worth Rs 5.39 crore and two-kg silver in East Godavari district since the model code came into force for May 7 poll in Seemandhra region.

“Since the (model) code came into force, unaccounted cash worth Rs 5.39 crore and 2 kg silver were seized in the district during raids conducted by various squads,” district collector cum election officer Neetu Prasad said in a statement last night.

Girl raped by engineering student

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an engineering student in his hostel room in Dadabari police station area of the city, police said today.

The victim has alleged in her complaint that she was raped by the accused on April 18, who took her to his hostel room, SHO Dadabari police station, Nathulal said.

The accused identified as Suraj Karan Sharma has been booked under section 376 of IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, he said.

The victim has been sent for medical examination and efforts are on to nab the accused who is absconding, he said.

Chernobyl’s birds adapting to low-levels of radiation

A new research has suggested that birds can adapt to the low-levels of radiation found near Chernobyl, where the catastrophic nuclear disaster took place in 1986.

According to the Verge, while going through previous studies, scientists found that birds near the Japanese Fukushima reactor that experienced a meltdown in 2011 had less chances of survival than Chernobyl’s birds, since they probably had more time to adapt.
